I am taking my wife and children 7 & 3 to Disney for the first time. We are staying four nights in November. I can stay at the Swan or one of the moderates for the same price. I like the location of the Swan, but the idea of staying at a true Disney resort is also appealing . Any suggestions?

I'd go with the Swan or Dolphin...

They are so close to the Epcot resorts, I don't see HOW you could really miss out on the magic of Disney. Plus, if Disney can refer to them as there "Other Deluxe Resorts" there has to be some Disney magic there... right? :D

.... but I do agree, that this could be a very difficult choice. How about letting the kids and wife decide. In the end, its the perspective and opinion of the individual that is visiting...

Good Luck!!!!!!

I would pick the Swan over a moderate. The Swan has queen size beds where the moderates have double beds. And the Swan has a better location than any moderate and it has the amenities of a deluxe (valet parking, inside room access, concierge). Also, you can walk to many restaurants from the Swan.

SWAN!!!!!!!!

We just returned from a trip with my dh & 3 yr old ds.
The Swan is great! Beautiful rooms (way nicer than the mods I have stayed at) Awesome beds! Great F&B service, cool pools and small playground area. But the best thing is the LOCATION! It is really great and you can walk over to the Boardwalk are too for some fun as well as take the boat or walk to Epcot or MGM.
We found the bus service to MK and the waterparks to be just fine too. I cannot say enough good things about the Swan.

Please tell me how you figure you can go to a Mod or Swan/Dolphin for the same cost. I just called yesterday for Nov. 7 to Nov. 10 and was quoted $298/night....no discounts, no AAA or Fla Resident Rates. They said they had a big convention coming in and could offer no discounts....I thought I could get the $139/FLA resident rate thru the end of 2003 but she said that none were available anymore .......HELP!!!!!

I have got to know .. What could a moderate possibly offer that would make it more appealing than the Swan at the same price?

I agree with all the posts about the Swan over a moderate. I'm booked at the Swan for this February and can't wait!!

I think that some people would chose a moderate because it's offficially Disney owned. I have read many posts about people who worry about not feeling the Disney magic at the Swan/Dolphin.

The Swan is basically a deluxe resort for a moderate price if you get one of the discounted rates. Definitely go with that. We were there recently with our 3 yo and the pool and atmosphere was great, especially the location.

I booked my nights at the Swan back in April, that is how i got the price around 150 bucks per night for 11/22/03-11/26/03. I hear people can sometimes get good prices at the Swan through Hotwire.

For a somewhat different perspective; the Swan/Dolphin location is just great, but we prefer the moderates, especially CBR, just because it feels more like a resort rather then a hotel.

Truth be told, I'd like to try the Swan/Dolphin, but DF thinks they're too ugly. However, we have stayed at other "Deluxe" on property resorts and still prefer the resort feel of the CBR so what others think of as plusses (e.g. inside room access, valet parking) to others may be minuses. It all depends on what you want from your vacation.;)

I guess I called too late because I just read about the $139/night special for Fla residents....it doesn't matter anyway, because for some reason my daughters think it's an ugly hotel too. I just like the fact it's in the loop for the boat to Epcot & MGM. Can't afford the Y&B or BWI without a room code this year. So in answer to your original question, YES, I would choose the Swan over a mod anytime if I could get the same rate. I would have definately done that this year if available.......Have a great time!:D
