Swan/Dolphin Discounts for 2007 updated 03/24/2007

I was advised to book two rooms with our Gov't discount rather than book a suite for our family, without a discount, when our children get a bit older.

DH needed to show his card when we first began using his Gov't discount. Since then we have not been asked to show it but we carry it with us in case.
I would call CS to see if they will allow you to check in. My experience with these resorts is that they are exceptional in CS!

Good luck!!

My husband recently started working for the Duval County School Board (he travels from school to school and works in their ITS department). Would we qualify for the discount?

Also, what is resort view w/ balcony a view of? I noticed the hotel site shows resort view and then park view....Im guessing you cant get park views with this discount? Thanks in advance =)

Hi!

Usually the teacher discount (all discounts) are for a std view, which could be a view of the front entrance. But if you join Starwoods preferred guest, or if you have a AAA and join as a AAA starwoods member, then they try to upgrade at check-in - can be a nice upgrade sometimes.

Hope this helps! :)

p.s. He would just need and ID or paystub proving he works fot the school dept. The discount is for teachers and support staff. :)

Hi Becky! Thanks for replying! When I went to book using dreams unlimited yesterday, they actually offered 4 different views...all using the teacher discount.

So we should be okay, even though hubby just works for the school board? =)

That's great news about the additional view options - be sure to join starwoods preferred guest program becasue it is rare when they do not give an upgrade at check-in.

School board - good question- why not give S/D a call on the toll free number?

Hopw it works out!

I was wondering about the room upgrades. If you are a preferred gold spg member, then you get upgrade if available at check in. If you are a gold preferred spg member, then can you buy upgrade at time of reservation?
If you have 1500 points and are a gold member then is there such a thing as combining the upgrades, and what does that get you?

I have a tripped booked -a standard room with double beds at the Dolphin for the end of April 2008. I was originally quoted $199 for the government employee rate. A few days after I booked, I saw on the Dolphin/Sheraton website a rate of $179 for an AAA member- so I called and changed my reservation to that room. My question-Do these rates go any lower in April?? Do I keep checking and changing?? I'm doing a split stay. If I keep getting lower rates is the quality of room going down??

...well, I'M not a happy camper!! I went on-line to get a price for EITHER S or D and it came up $324/nite for X-Mas week, regardless of whether I used NO discount, AAA, or techers' discount....:confused3 what gives??

I don't believe there are any discounts for XMAS week. They don't have to offer discounts due to the high demand. AAA gets Disney discounts for all seasons EXCEPT holiday, I'm sure it is the same for the S/D. Sorry!

....WOOHOO!!:woohoo: I called S/D directly and got the $189/nite Teachers' Rate for 12/22 to 12/28.....:dance3:  :cool1: ...there IS a God....

I've been watching the rates and I found them lower the same week except Christmas Eve and Christmas night. Last year they went down to $125.
We use the Gov't discount but I believe they're the same rate.

Also, I've spoken to a guest service agent that told me that they will send a tree to your room but it's on a first come first serve basis. A few months ago someone told me they don't do this.
I'm shipping one to be sure we have one.

** Edited to mention S/D now advertises Dec 14-23 for $159 at Dolphin and $179 at Swan with code SDSPEC

FYI - I called today using the number earlier in this thread and was told to call 1-888-625-4988 (option 2) to upgrade to the SPG Preferred Guest account.

Interestingly they didn't ask for a CAA/AAA membership number but advised that they may ask for it when you check in.

Interesting - I hope the upgrade is still valid. I used to keep a AMEX card (annual fee $399) that offers me SPG GOLD membership. Now that's too expensive and I abandoned the card.

I have been Starwood member and have been booking rooms with CAA/AAA discount rates. Didn't know that being a CAA/AAA member can enjoy free upgrades to Starwood GOLD. I will try to call them tomorrow and hopefully I can be upgraded. Visiting Dolphin in March!

No the Dining Plan is ony available at Disney owned resorts.

:) Happy Planning
