Not sure how many people use Starwoods reward points to book the Swan/Dolphin hotel. Depending on the time of year it's a good use of Starwood points. It was 10,000pts a night which changed to 12,000pts a night. The jump up wasn't unexpected considering the renovations. When Marriott bought Starwoods the conversion is 3 to 1. So the Swan/Dolphin would go to 36,000pts/night but your Starwoods points would also get converted at the same rate. It wasn't really a big deal until they just announced that the Swan/Dolphin just changed categories. Now it will be 50,000pts/night (14,000pts/night jump). That is the same category as a lot nicer hotels (Ritz-Carlton, St Regis, etc). This is definitely disappointing and no long a good use of points. Combined with the lower credit card rewards I'm leaving the program after earning more than a million points lifetime. However, the good news and the reason for the post is that you have until the end of the month to book at the current rate. If you were saving up points you better book now.
