I heard from a CM at Epcot yesterday that the Japanese parent holding company of the Swan and Dolphin resorts is in bankruptcy protection, and Disney is negotiating the purchase of these two hotels.

Truth, fiction, or a bit of both?

Another groundless CM rumor.

The WDW Swan and Dolphin are part of the Tishman Hotel Corp. portfolio of hotels. The WDW Swan and Dolphin do not belong to a nameless, bankrupt Japanese parent holding company.

The hotels are affiliated with Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., parent of Westin and Sheraton.

You just encountered the favorite CM past time. Did you hear the one about building a subway from the Magic Kingdom to Animal Kingdom but the delay was due to them not knowing what to do with the water. :rolleyes1

Oh well, I was hoping they'd finally get out a darn paint brush for those two.

Actually, the Swan and Dolphin were repainted last year to bring the colors back to their original appearance. They look good again. They had been looking rather faded.

I thought they were always kind of lame. Right from the get go.

That's hysterical. I stayed there a couple of month's ago. They are just plain ugly!

Actually the are still painting the Dolphin. The Swan is done but they are still working on the Dolphin.

I think that they're cool looking. At least they're not plain boxes like some resorts.

If Disney purchsed them maybe the monorail could finally pass through both of them.

Think I will :duck: now.

I happen to be a big fan of Michael Graves, but in any event I think it's hard to argue that the Swan and Dolphin are worse looking than the standard hotel towers that would have been built there if Eisner had not intervened.

For a neat smaller example of Graves work (well, not as small as the teapots and such at Target), see the post office at Celebration.
