I got a premier swa visa when they had the 50k bonus. I spent the 2k and the points should be posted 9/24 according to chase. Will I automatically be alerted that I have earned the companion pass? Will I be able to use it immediately? I have a flight I want to book asap but am waiting for the companion pass. I hoped the points would have transferred at the last statement. Any info on how this works would be great.
Thanks!

You need 110K in a calendar year to reach companion pass status. Maybe I'm misunderstanding. Did you earn another 60K earlier this year?

You get an email and than a card in the mail. You will be able to use it right away when you qualify.

Yes. Those 50 points will put me over 110.

I got an email once I earned it. You have to set up your companion by calling or doing it online, then they send you the card. Once you've done this, you can add the companion's flight, before you get the card. When you call, make sure you have the companion's Rapid Rewards number.

What if said companion doesn't have a rr#?

I don't think it matters if they have a rr#. Once the points are added to your RR acct you should receive notification that you qualify for a companion pass. I can't remember if it was the same day the points were credited or a couple days later.

you can book your flight right now and add the companion later when you reach that this allows you to snag the fare you want.....it's usually pretty quick to get the CP once you reach statement close date

Okay, then why not book the companion's airfare now, using some of those points? When you get the companion pass, you can cancel the reservation (and get your points back) and then re-book using the companion pass.

This ensures that you get your seats on the flight (in case of a sellout) but keeps the door open for you to use the companion pass if it becomes available before your flight.

this is a good idea,if the flight looks full already..... but keep in mind that a companion booking is good as long as there is any seat of any price left on the flight....so it's likely that there will be a seat left ,even if OP books their own now to secure the price. but I would do this if I were concerned at all about it

Does anyone know when Southwest will offer the 50,000 point offer again? Hopefully before the end of the year....pixiedust:
