Just FYI, points are especially useful if you buy for other people whose travel plans are subject to change, such as extended family or a child's friend. Unlike the credit you get on cash purchases that were cancelled, points refunded can be used by anyone, not just the original passenger. Any time we buy a gift ticket, we always try to buy it with points so that the value will revert to us if the person cancels.
