Ok, I know that If I book a flight on SWA using dollars, and I cancel it, it goes in credits under my name,to use within the next year.
WHat happens if I book a couple of flights using Rapid rewards points, then need to cancel the flight?
Do the credits go back into my RR account,to be used as before, for any member of my family?ANd for any length of time as long as my acct is active? Or are they credited back like above, in the name of ticketed passenger,to be used only by them in the next year?
Just wondering,as I have RR to use, but I don't want them tied up in case something changes.....
thanks.....

RR points go back in your account immediately after you cancel. I cancel and rebook constantly as the # of points changes.

so back into your acct. does it matter who you use them for?

They go back into the account of the owner of the points....but you can use (or re-use) them for anyone. You just need to be sure that you put the exact name of the person who will be using them into the form....but if you then cancel them, they go back to the original owner without any restrictions....and they go back instantly.

Example....my husband is the one who earns all the points through his job.....but my kids and I use them constantly. I'll book us a flight, use his points but put one reservation in my name, and one in each of the kids' names. They take the points from hubby's account instantly. Then I keep checking for the point cost to go down, and just cancel the reservation, the points go back into his account and I spend them again on the less points flight. No penalty and no limit on how often you can cancel/rebook and no block dates at all. Some flights on a particular day may be full, but I have never seen an entire day be sold out, so you should always have something to choose from. I've gone on their website without logging into hubby's account to see if the available flights are different (i.e. blocking certain flights) and have never been able to "catch" them at this.

Add to that the fact that 2 bags per person fly free...and well, we love SWA. A lot of people don't like SWA because of their open seating, but we've always checked ourselves in at 23:59:59 before the flight and gotten a high enough number to pick 3 seats together. Dozens of flights and we've never had to sit apart.

no restrictions from what i see. i booked our flights earlier this year with my points and changed them like 4 times before we actually flew and each time they just instantly dropped back into my account ready to use whenever or for whomever. pretty darn awesome I have to say... although none was a flat out cancel without a transfer to a new "booking". but i can't imagine it works any different as they refund you the total points paid and then charge you the new points. so a full cancel would just be the first part of that transaction. i didn't see anything on their website about a penalty for cancelling a reservation booked with points so i think you should be good.
