SW seat saving failure

Just boarded a flight to MCO. Man in front of me loaded his luggage in the first bin and took the aisle seat. The woman saving it for her family announced it was saved and he said 'not anymore.' Woman saving the next row was whining too.

Getting Grandma to hop on with preboarding to hold your seats may not work.

It has been several minutes man has not moved LO

And to top it off family is now delaying the entire boarding as they realize that one of the saved rows is an exit row and their kids can't sit there. The entire rear of the plane is empty but none of them are moving. (About 10 people total )

Tell us if you finally get to take off. Is it a direct flight? If so, just get on and sit down. Everyone gets off at the same place!

Seat Savers crack me up. DH will take a seat in THAT row just because he can be a little onery. :)

THIS is why I appreciate flying on Delta! I get on and if someone is sitting in my seat - I kick them out!!

Unless Delta moves you. That has happened to me a couple times, when I boarded the little slip pops out with a new assignment. One time I went from the front of coach to the back.

Good for him.

It cracks me up how people have to sit In the front of the plane on the way to MCO. I suppose those seats do get there before the back ones.....LOL

pamjb, thank you for a good chuckle. You know, every minute counts when you're going to Disney :lmao:

Actually you do get out of the plane faster. If you are way in the back it can take 10 or 15 min to get out.

1) Good for him.
2) If you want seats, pay extra for them.
3) Saving seats should NEVER be allowed.
4) Even if it splits up families.
5) Again, for a modest price increase, you board early to get seats together.

NOTE: What if 46 people did this? This would take every row on both sides
of the 737-300. Would others have to stand during the entire flight?

This is one reason I only fly First Class, except if on a mesquito (commuter jet).

The $12.50 per ticket was so worth it for me to make sure we all sat together. I couldn't believe the amount of people on our flight who were upset when they were split up!

1) Sometimes Greed-Is-Not-Good.
2) In other words, being cheap on tickets can be bad.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I am not a great flyer. Nervous and anxious enough that it is the one and only time in my life that I need to take medication. I book early and pay for EBCI so that I can get an aisle seat as close to the front of the plane as possible. It helps.
I would do the same thing this man is doing, and no, I would not offer an explanation to whomever was whining about their "saved" seats. I don't owe anyone a explanation as to the state of my anxiety. I pay the extra 12.50 for all of us, it's easy to do. Everyone else is capable of the same thing. If you don't want to be split up.. pay the fee or fly a different airline. Period.

Let us know how it turns out.

Well this family had to be one of the last off. I walked past them and I was at mid plane. They were still trying to get their stuff together to get off.

One of the main reasons I would never fly SWA with my family. Even if you pay extra to board early, but your connecting flight is running late you are out of luck.

Oh gracious.

That's what happens in such a big group of (fairly obviously) inexperienced flyers!

FWIW the family would have been FINE if they had just moved on to the back. Closer to the bathrooms anyway. Oh wait, that's not as big a deal on SW b/c I assume anyone can use the forward bathroom?

Flying on miles with United; no seat assignments until we got to the airport, major weather on the east coast affecting the west coast, initial flight cancelled....if not for the extreme kindness of very sweet strangers, DS and I would have been nearly half a plane apart from each other. As it was we were a row apart. United. Not SW. I've never once not sat next to him on SW. :upsidedow
