If you need more than the amount of points you have in your account, can you apply the points you do have towards your ticket and pay the difference in cash or do you need enough points to cover the entire cost of the ticket?

I have purchased extra points a couple of times to make up for a shortage. For our October flight I purchased 2000 points for $50 for one leg of my husband's flight. The one way cost was $144 but I paid $50 for the points and purchased the one way flight with the total points. So I paid $50 instead of $144. The remaining points stay in the RR account. Not a huge savings and others may prefer to save up the points but I was comfortable paying the $50 for the points needed.

Why not check out WN's website and take a look at the rules?

I did check out their site, before posting here. It didn't fully answer my question though so I thought I'd ask here since there are alot of seasoned Southwest flyers on the DIS.

So you do have to have enough points to cover at least one full leg of a round trip flight. Good to know. Thank you!!!!
