Booking a flight on SW for Jan for quick WDW trip mixed with business. If I book now - at a bit of a higher fare than I'd like - at the Wanna Get Away rate and it goes down between now and Jan - can I get a refund or credit and what is the procedure for getting / using it?

Yes, you can. If the price goes down, you will get a credit (ticketless travel funds) that can be used for future travel. It is good for one year from the date of original purchase. So if you purchased today, the credit is good for travel till 9/28/10.

You can make the changes right on southwest.com. Click on Travel Tools, then Change Air Reservation. It is very easy. I do it all the time :thumbsup2

Not trying to nit pick at your post, but just trying to clarify for OP
Travel MUST be completed within the year. So you would have had to actually completed your travel by 9/28/10 based on this post. And if your return travelling date would happen to be after 9/28, then you would/should book your flights as one way. HTH.

hijacking with a question. Any credits - would they be based on the # of tickets being adjusted or just a sum of money.

Let me explain...
I am looking to book 4 wanna get away fares for my upcoming January trip and hope/pray they later drop the price. If I buy them now and they drop the price and give me the difference as a credit, would I need to use this credit on 4 future tickets (not very common for all 4 of us to fly somewhere) or can that credit be used towards 1 ticket?

Thanks

In the scenario you described, you would end up with 4 separate credits. When purchasing a ticket, you can only use up to 4 payment methods. If the 4 credits add up to a total greater than the cost of the ticket then yes you can use the 4 credits for the flight. If the 4 credits don't add up to the total of the ticket then you will only be able to use 3 of the credits. Of course if you book the two directions separately then you can easily use 2 credits for one direction and then 2 credits for the return direction. Credits are transferable to anybody so the name on the credit doesn't matter when using them.

Remember that if you request credits more than once (as in the price drops multiple times and you request a credit each time), each person will get a separate credit for each credit request. In your scenario, if you request credits with 3 separate price drops, you'll end up with a total of 12 separate credits.

Also remember that the credits must be used for travel that COMPLETES within 1 year of ORIGINAL PURCHASE of the original tickets.

You can only use 2 Ticketless Travel Fund numbers as payment on new tickets.
The PP would only have 4 different sets of TTF if she booked under 4 different confirmation numbers.
But, the TTF can be used by anyone, not the person who purchased the original ticket.

I think I get it :)

If I buy 4 tickets and get lucky with 1 price adjustment - I will have 4 credits but can only apply a max of 2 credits per new ticket so within the year travel by requirement I could apply the 4 credits to 2 tickets (2 each) or 1 credit each against 4 new tickets, etc

Thanks very much

If you buy the 4 tickets under 4 separate confirmation numbers then you can only apply 2 of the credits. If you buy the 4 tickets under a single confirmation number then you can apply 3 of the credits (or 4 if they total more than the cost of the new ticket). I realize it sounds like it doesn't make any sense, but it's just the way that SWA has their payment system set up. Max 2 separate confirmation numbers, max 4 total forms of payment.
