We booked our flights on the SW sale this morning, and after completing everything, I read the fine print. Our flight is operated by Air Tran, so the seats are assigned. They will assign seats based on check in time. We can change our seats when we arrive at the airport.

All of that is fine. I know with AT you can pay to choose your seat, but since we booked with SW, I don't think that was an option. I don't really care where they seat us, but my question is this - will be seated together since our reservation is under one group?

It is just me and DH, but we have a lap baby. I don't want to be seated far apart and deal with the baby on my own. Having us together is helpful. Again, I don't care "where" they put us, but will they seat us next to each other?

Thanks for any info.

Not necessarily. There are several threads on the subject here. It's quite discouraging, actually.

I booked AirTran flights through SW (for the free luggage) without fully understanding the seat assignment issues. Like everyone else, I'm hoping my daughter and I won't be assigned separate seats but considering our flight is already sold out 4 months in advance, it's not likely. :(

From the sounds of it, those who get reassigned at the airport usually have a greater need (adult traveling with a small child who can't sit alone) and that's only IF there are unassigned seats available to move them around. Being that you're traveling with an adult, and I'm traveling with a 15 year old, I doubt our odds are very good that either of us will be reassigned to have seats together.

We had AT flights booked through SW in May. It was just DH and I. Our flight down was not full and we were seated together. Our flight home was sold out and we were assigned seats 2 rows apart. We asked if they could move us together, particularly since I was ill, but that was not possible. The older lady I sat next to was nice but she had to endure my airsickness. She had purchased an aisle seat and since DH and I were both assigned windows (2x3 seating) we couldn't have her switch and DHs aisle mate was from a connecting flight that got there at the last minute and it was too late to try and switch.

Well, I appreciate the replies, even though it wasn't what I wanted to hear. Thanks! We'll hope for the best. :thumbsup2
