All the flights that were $79.00 are now all $124.00!!
One of my co-workers kept putting off booking the air for his family of 4 so the air fare that was going to be $716.00 is now well over $1000.00:scared1::scared1:

They might just be between Internet sales right now.

Mine for the flights home went from 119 to 190 in a weeks time then drifted back down to 140 and I jumped on tem they went down another 15 after that and now i have a credit to use again.

The thing is right now with flights it's like Russian roulet you just can't know where they are heading

Air fare is like a moving target. What happened, although unfortunate, is perfectly normal. It is also possible that the number of available seats on the plane has decreased causing a greater demand which increased the prices. Of course like already was indicated it could also be that SW is between sales right now.

We ended up need to cancel our tickets from delta to switch to southwest (long story...but it is going to be a lot better for us), and the return ticket from ORL to BHM went up $20 from when I first looked at them Wed night to ordering them last night. I was sad! lol I was actually really surprised at what the southwest tickets cost because they ended up being $120 more than the delta tickets.

We ended up switching because Southwest goes nonstop from bhm to orl (which is what we wanted to do), but I thought I was going to have to work a half day which meant none of the times worked. So, we were going to drive to the atl aiport and take delta to orl that night. I just found out yesterday I could take the entire day off. Now we are leaving at 8:30 am and we will be at disney at 11:00 instead of the 7:30 pm we had previously planned. Plus, we no longer have to drive to atl and leave the car at the airport fod days. Plus, the earlier the flight is, the less time I have to be scared!!!

Back to my main point - I was surprised how much the sw tickets were. My only guess is that it is because we are booking a little bit less than a month in advance. I know often the tickets get higher the closer they get to the date. :confused3

Welcome to the weekend! I find fares tend to go up on the weekends and drop Tue/Wed. My SW fare from Dulles to MCO went from $69 to $99.

I haven't checked their prices lately. What I do have to say about Southwest is that I am sorry that I didn't book with them this year. We usually fly southwest, but we went with US airways because they had such a good deal, but now the extra expenses are adding up. Southwest gives lets you bring your first 2 bags for FREE, plus they give you LOTS of snacks and drinks for free. Also, they are really great if you need to move your dates, change routes, etc. without ever charging fees. Plus, they fly you directly from where I am at without layovers.

We ended up with a layover, $150 per flight charge for any changes to the flight (more than we paid in the first place!), $15 fee for FIRST bag checked, NO in flight snacks....grumble. Next time, I'm flying southwest again.

Does anyone subscribe to their "Ding"? I have gotten several good deals by watching that. You have to watch it almost daily, though.

The Dulles fares for my Aug/Sept trip are stagnant. am looking for the Labor Day fare to drop a bit so I can rebook it with some new credit from a previous flight and then have some later-expiring credit left over.

This is not surprising. SW has been showing losses for some time now and with a profit margin of something like 1.4% they have no choice but to raise fares. Probably something we'll have to get used to.

Airtran flights I've been tracking went up dramatically today also. Flights that were 59 or 79 are now 133

Seriously. My airfare has been doubling over the weekend, then 20 bucks off on Monday, another 20 or so down Tuesday, then bottom out on Wednesday, then they head back up for the weekend. I've been playing "guess the fare: before I check every day :lmao:

My DD is coming from San Diego and had purchased her tickets here but was waiting to see for the tickets on the way back. They were $119 when she purchased and then went up to $137 and up. Yesterday she checked and they were back to $119 and she ordered. She checked about 2 hours later and they were back up to $137. I would suggest to keep looking and when you see a good price order right then.

I have NEVER spent as much on airfare as I did for this summers trip........but then again I never booked just 3 months before.......we are at about $280 pp..........sigh.

hard lesson learned. Why did they not buy at $79. Seriously, were they waiting for it to get better than that? :confused3
Yes, we've had some $49 and 59 in the past but I wouldn't count on those to always be there or wait for them.

These days I don't take a chance. I'd rather have a credit from a price drop than to end up paying double what I originally saw.

For our Aug trip they were $99 each way. We bought right away and our southbound dropped to $59 but the northbound has only gone up.
I'll gladly use those credits later.

Good luck and hopefully you all find decent fares. No matter what though, it's still better than driving!:goodvibes

I feel your pain. It seems to be the same everywhere.

I'm in Western Canada and our fares have doubled since March '08. At something like 3000 miles driving to WDW would take a very long time, so flying is our only choice. But really, even at these prices, flying doesn't seem "outrageous"- yet. Getting on a plane in the frozen north and being in Disney 7 hours later has got to be worth some extra cost compared to driving.

Just my 2 cents.:)

I'm looking for a fall flight for the 3 of us...flying out on October 23rd and flying back in October 31st. SW's schedule only goes through Oct. 30th at the moment but on June 23rd is when they will open up the schedule to run through Jan. 2010. Should I wait and book it all at one time or should I go ahead and try to book the flight down to MCO now? I am thinking if I wait there might be some better deals later. :confused3

I'm so glad I purchased our tickets back in March for our August trip. I lucked out and got $58 each way nonstop. Only $410 for me, DH, & DS13. Even though I got a good buy I still often check to see if prices have gone down. The price is actually pretyy steady at $58 but goes up doing the weekend.
