Do I have to TRAVEL by the expiration or buy tickets for FUTURE travel? IOW, if my expiration daye is 4/2010, can I buy tickets before 4/2010 for travel in 9/2010?

Yes, and also keep in mind that if you combine travel vouchers for your newest trip, and one voucher is dated earlier than the other, they will all default to the earliest date. So you must complete your travel on or before the expiration date, not just buy the new tickets by that date. sorry, I'm sure that's not the answer you were hoping for. :goodvibes

Thanks. That's what I thought. Not sure I understand the logic though. Im my case, I originally made reservations in April for a flight in September. I've had to change it a couple times, and also changed it when the price dropped, so I have about $100 in credits. I just don't see why they should expire in April and not September. I think they shoiuld expire based on the original TRAVEL date not the original booking date. For instance, my credits should be good for travel through September 2010, 1 year from my original travel date.

you can't entend the credits until they expire. the week they expire you can call to extend them then they will email you the voucher and then you will be able to rebook. Hopefully the Sept rates will still be good when you are ready to book in April

I had a $150 credit with SW and I wasn't planning a trip until after they expired. I called SW and they said I could petition an extension and possibly use the credit for future travel (which was already planned, just after the expiration date).

So I found out about the process, wrote my letter, and I was approved for the extension and got to use the money. I think they charged me a small fee but it came out of the credit anyway. Give it a try.

Good Luck!

It's an accounting issue for Southwest. It limits their financial liability with regard to outstanding unused credits.

Thanks - that's good to know.

don't forget they deduct $50 to entend each vocher. So if you have 4 credits, try and rebook and cancel under 1 name, 1 flight will help
