SW Companion Pass question: Can I spend points before earning 110k?

Since flights opened this morning, I planned to book our 1/2016 flights on SW website. However, my dh's has 109,500 RR points, and we are waiting for shopping points to be applied(hopefully soon) which will earn him a companion pass. So as I was getting ready to book our 5 round trip flights and spend those points, it suddenly occurred to me that I might ruin his chance of earning companion pass if I use up all of those points.

Does anyone know if you can spend your RR points, while still earning the 110k points? Or do you need to save up those points to get to 110k before spending them?

you can spend them- it's not how many you have at the moment when you reach 110k it's how many you have accumulated that count towards the CP.... have fun! it's the best! ...edit to say at least this has been my previous experience with SWA CP
