Hi,

Checking airfare prices is like investing in the stock market! Sometimes you look really smart by waiting, and sometimes, well...not so smart. Sometimes the price will go up, and sometimes it will go down.

Are you a gambler? My opinion is: if you are comfortable with the price now you should book it.

There are no regular times for prices going up or down, nor is there any rhyme or reason to it. Like the PP said, it's like the stock market. You can't predict it, you just have to go with it and hopefully you'll be lucky enough to get a lower fare.

Thanks for posting this question, as I was wondering the same thing. Right now, the cost for late summer is crazy expensive! A one way flight, per person is $324 right now! A couple months ago, we paid $99. I'm sure hoping that these high prices aren't here to stay. I know gas prices will have impact on prices, but surely not this high??

It's a gamble. A little more than a month ago we purchased tixs on Tuesday from OKC to MCO roundtrip $404 pp. The next day the same tixs were $258 roundtrip per person. We were able to get credit towards our next flight for the price difference but it would have been nice to keep the extra money.

Southwest doesn't charge change fees. Sometimes you're seeing a Southwest yield manager change the inventory available at different fares. Sometimes a fare change. But sometimes all you're seeing is a discounted seat becoming available when a passenger cancels an existing reservation.

Try to book 8 seats. If 8 seats aren't available at any price the flight is pretty booked. Better chance of the flight selling out then seeing low fares. If 8 seats are available at a lower fare bucket you have a shot of a fare reduction. You can keep reducing the number of seats you want to reserve until you find the number of seats available at a given fare.
