SW cancel to get a lower fare?

I've been off these boards for a while and have never flown SW. I remember from past posts that SW would let you cancel, give you a credit and you could rebook to get a lower fare if one was available. Do they still do this? If they do, how long does it take before you can use the credit to rebook? TIA for any help with this.

You can likely just do an itinerary change to the lower airfare. The credit is tied to the original reservation number/name booked under and expires 1 year from the original booking date.

Just did it for the 3rd time on our flights for Sept. They dropped over 1,300 points RT tonight.

I booked using points. When I try to modify to the lower fare (same Flight) I am getting the 5.60 fee. Do you pay this again if you change?
