Just curious how high the A's go up to. I just checked in at the 24 hour mark and they didn't give boarding numbers together.

Me A56
DH A57
DS (9) A59
DS (3) B01

I'm not comfortable having the kids alone can they stand with us or do we have to go back and stand with them. Since our 3 year old is in the B's should we just board with the family boarding or should one of us board with the A's and one stay with the kids and try to "save" seats??? Not sure why they couldn't put us all together to board

It may be up to 60, but I'm not sure. I would switch your dh and your ds-3. That way, you will have both the kids close to you, and your dh can bring up the rear....just in case there are a ton of family boarders in that between A and B goups. You actually might get the person in A58 to switch with your other ds..but even if they won't, there will only be one person inbetween you and him.

It goes to 60. Honestly if it were me I'd just stand at the very back of the A's and all board together. Hand all 4 boarding passes to the gate attendant at once I can't see it being a problem. Especially since the 3 year old is the one with the B1 pass. If you are that concerned about being in the wrong, just ask the gate attendant. I'm sure it's not the first time they have come across this type of thing.

Since your son is 3, he can board with you anyway.

I would not necessarily assume that to be the case in every circumstance--if the family had A15-A17 and the child had B1, for example, the gate agent might or might not be accomodating--but in this situation I do agree. That's because with a three year old you would be eligible to board during family boarding between the A and B groups anyway.

Or one of you and your nine year old could board as scheduled, and the other parent and the three year old can board during Family Boarding.

Why it happened? Probably another party was checking in at exactly the same time as you. While each of you is a group, each boarding pass is created separately. In the fraction of a second between your A57 and A59 were generated, the computer issued them A58; ditto for them getting A60.

This happened to us a few years ago. Our daughter had a lower boarding number than us. I just stood by her. The gate attendant let me go through with her because she was a minor. My DH boarded at his boarding number.

whenever doing on-line BP's with children always do 1 adult then the children then the other adult. If only 1 adult do adult and youngest child next, JMO:goodvibes

They will let you board together most likely. This has happened to us before that we got seperated between A & B. They also don't check the names on the boarding passes at the gate so you can stand in whatever order, but honestly it shouldn't be an issue.

when you get to the gate speak with the gate agent behind the desk. They usually allow children and parents board together. SWA is very accomodating.

But the passenger/s whose place in line one usurps may not be so agreeable. With separated BP assignments, it's best to board together with the highest - not lowest - boarding pass. At the very least in this case, the entire party should stand behind A60.

This just happened to us a few weeks ago. My 9 year old had B1 while we had A's. He just stood with us, handed in his boarding pass with ours....no issue at all.

Enjoy your trip!

Well, I drove 20 MPH over the speed limit last week and didn't get a ticket. YMMV.

I fly SW out of Philadelphia all the time - love the airline, hate the boarding policies. Here's what I've seen: the gate attendants are inconsistent in the way they board -some will be more stringent than others about letting kids board with parents when kids have a later boarding assignment. Especially on flights to Orlando with a lot of families, i've seen them leave family boarding available ONLY for people with children under 2. I've also seen them be very flexible and accomodating to everyone - I would say try to guage the gate agent that morning and see where you think they'll fall - i will tell you though, if they have a full flight, they won't be as flexible. Good luck to you, enjoy your vacation!

We have had this happen before (even flying out of Philly) and have never had an issue, I would just have your 3 year old board with you. I cant imagine someone in line having issue with this. I mean really it is a baby, not a teen you are trying to have board with you. I know if you asked me I would certainly let the child board with all of you.

No matter where your boarding number is, SW has "family boarding" between the A and B groups. This is so a family with very low boarding numbers doesn't get split up when they get on and the available seats are spread about the plane. Unless it has changed, they did this way the last time we all flew together. :)

Family boarding is for one adult and a child 4 years old and under. The OP has a 9 year old.

An adult traveling with a child four years old or younger may board during Family Boarding, which occurs between the "A" and "B" boarding groups. However, those Customers holding an "A" boarding pass should still board with the "A" boarding group. With an all-jet fleet outfitted with comfortable, leather seats, our families traveling with small children are easily accommodated together.

Thanks for the correction! I don't want to give wrong information. We had 4 adults and 2 under 3, we all went on together.

But the OP's three year old is the one with the B boarding pass. There should be no problem with the entire family, who all have A boarding passes, boarding in their spots, with one adult and the child in family boarding, or even with everyone in the family doing family boarding under those circumstances. That's assuming that they even do family boarding, however.

The only thing that anyone can guarantee will work, however, is for everyone to board with the child in the B group. All of the other options--having the child board with the family ahead of the assigned spot or even family boarding--are subject to the discretion of the individual gate agent. As a result, while it is possible (or even likely) that one or both of the other options would be allowed, it is not 100 percent certain.

Personally we have been in this situation ourselves and someone was between me and my kids, so I just let the A58 and A60 (in your case) go ahead of us.
