Ds and I have ticket for Orlando on a nonstop SW flight in April. DH is now going with us. We're on a flight that leaves at 3:30 and it has no more available tickets. We can get DH on a flight at 5:30. He'll come to the airport with us. I know with other airlines there's a chance he'd get on our flight if there was room. Does SW operate the same way?

Thanks!

SW will normally charge the difference between the fare you paid and the fully refundable fare. Are there no tickets available for your flights or just none of the discounted fares?

Unless you have paid full price for the ticket, Southwest won't let you do standby unless you pay the difference between what you paid and full price (as LewisC said). Wouldn't even matter if there was room on the plane.

I used to fly standby on ATA all the time. Tried it once on SW and once they told me the difference between what I paid and full price, I waited for my scheduled flight.

Why not change your flight to his? Southwest does not penalize you for changing your flight (as other airlines do).

Thanks for the info. I don't know what I was thinking. They were tickets available for the flight, just at a higher price. I'm so used to looking at the discount fares that I don't even notice the others are there! ;) We paid an extra $80 so he could fly with us. The later flight had a stop and ours is nonstop and he didn't fancy hanging around the airport for another 2 hours. I'm going to keep checking for a lower fare. Thanks for the replies.
