SW Airfare Credit Question

Our SW tickets have gone down in price 2 times since I purchased in January. We now have a credit with them, which if I understand correctly is only good for 1 year from Jan (even though we are not using the tickets until May).

Obviously, I don't want to forfeit the credit, but we probably will not go to WDW until the fall next year. Is there any way around this? Could I buy tickets for an earlier date when they go on sale and then change them until I get the dates we want? If their schedule went out further it would not be a problem.

You might be able to get an extension for 6 months from the original expiration date, however, Southwest approves this it will most likely be in the form of a voucher... If that is still not in your timeframe, then you probably need to consider using the credit for another trip. Your credit is good for any destination that Southwest flys to and with DING and other good deals, you might be able to fly to someplace you haven't been to for the weekend... Just an example.

If you did not make any changes to the reservation - it is for the same date and time - you may be able to get a refund to your credit card. You must call the refund department, not the 800 number. Some people have been able to do this while others have not. Good luck!

If you are not successful with a refund there are people who would buy the credit for a small discount. People even sell them on Ebay. Anyone can use the credit on S-west.

How would this work? Isn't the credit online and you have to go in and apply it when you buy new tix?

Thanks.

I would consider buying your credit at a discount. Your credit was issued with a code. It can be applied to any purchase of a SW ticket. You do not have to be the traveler. It would, of course, take a level of trust between seller (that they get their money from buyer) and buyer (that the credit is good). I am flying to Orlando in June and then again in October and most always fly SouthWest, so that is why I am willing to buy your credit. See you have been a DIS member for some period (as I have been) that makes me feel a level of trust that you are not new to these boards and a "scam". I have PayPal and please pm me if interested. Good Luck, ideally you will get your money refunded! -Julie

i've sold a swa credit in the past and it was a very smooth transaction... i took a few bucks off the value so while it "cost" me and the purchaser got a "bargain" it was certainly better than forfeiting the credit... i would not hesitate to do a deal w/a fellow dis-boarder, as long as they've been around for some time...

I have a 180.00 credit that expires on July 15th. Who would I call to see if I can extend it for 6 months?

Call Southwest Customer Service number. You can find it on their web page or you can call their reservation number and asked for the number.

I also have a credit to use up by July, but not planning another trip until November. I called SWA and they said to request an extension in July.
What I have "read" on another thread was that they send you a voucher. The voucher cannot be used on the internet, only in person at the airport. But if you book a trip within the six months on the internet and pay for it, then when you complete your trip, you can send the voucher into SWA and they will refund the money on your credit card.
