Suzy and Perla Skip the Lines Again: From roughing it to the lap of luxury

Mice in the dining tent. eek. But something bigger rustling and digging not to far from the tent. EEK! Sharpies and little kiddies? EEEKKK!.
I'm loving all the details you're giving!

I didn't let my 2yo use them though. I would have preferred crayons for him.

As for Duffy, I can say with reasonable confidence that the market is 5 yo girls. My 5yo got a Duffy on our last trip and has taken it EVERYWHERE with her ever since. We also still have her Duffy on a stick which is hanging up in the kitchen. She loves Duffy. Personally, he is cute and very soft, but I could live without him.

IMHO, you should be able to let a 2 year old color at a Disney coloring station.

As for Duffy, I had to pop over to your TR because of it's title, obviously. You bought a surprise Duffy! I was shocked and horrified by this, of course. Blatant participation in a conspiracy. There must surely be a law against this. ;). What happened to good ole fashioned Mickey ears in a welcome present? ::MickeyMo :earboy2:

I know. Dangers everywhere!:lmao:

And thanks. I find when I'm reading TRs it's the details I like most because that is how you can make the best decisions for yourself.

Wow, so many updates since last time I checked in!

All 3 girls looked so beautiful after the BBB :cutie: I'm glad they enjoyed the experience, it makes the $ worthwhile. Jean had the same hair style as Boo and though I've gone back to our pictures over and over I still can't figure out how to do it exactly :confused3

The pirate make-overs looked fun too :thumbsup2

Your experience at 1900 PF has me nervous as I had planned on eating there in November but now I'm second guessing - it is for the character experience that we're going not the food but the noise factor worries me.

What a fun night at MK :woohoo:, so many FPs...you really do have that process down to an artform!

Our last trip was during the F&G so I totally understand wanting to take a picture of every flower, its just all so beautiful.

I'm indifferent on the Duffy issue (but then I haven't been there since Duffy was introduced) but I can definitely see my girls getting sucked in

I have spent most of this morning reading your last TR and I don't want to stop reading this one. But, since we have tickets to the Braves game today, I guess I better stop. I will be back later tonight to try and get caught up. I love your writing style and your family is adorable. I haven't seen the dates fo the June trip yet? When are you going? We will be there (offsite:sad1:) June 1-9. We are taking my niece and nephew for their first trip.

Love your Tr !! I think I think the closest I'll come to camping is WL though:lmao: But you do make it sound like fun!! I'm going back to read your other reports now. I've read that Duffy is really popular in Japan, that adults carry him wherever they go, not just to the parks and they have extensive wardrobes for him!!:confused3:confused3 Give me Mickey anyday;)

I wonder if they could do something about the noise at 1900 Park Faire? It really is the bothersome thing. I think it's because the character interaction is SO wonderful that the noise is such a problem.

Thanks! And have fun at the game.

We are going the 10-18 (roughly) and are also staying offsite. We'll miss you. Make sure you leave some Mickey bars for us! I'm never going to make my goal of finishing this before it's time to start the pre-trip so I'll probably start it within the next two weeks.

Thanks! Yes, I've read that about Duffy too. But the knowledge doesn't help me. Duffy has been around for a bit in the parks and I haven't had strong feelings. But this trip he was EVERYWHERE, especially at Epcot. And knowing the Japanese love him didn't help. Many Japanese people love sushi but I would be ticked to discover in June that all CS & TS restaurants now served mainly sushi.

I'm happy for them, and I want it available. But I don't want it shoved down my throat, ya know?

So that's how I feel in this case.

Actually, the over availability of anything Disney annoys me a bit. Like Winnie the Pooh. Why did he have to take the "special" character spot in Animation Studios?

I LOVE Pooh. Love. Meet him every trip. Give him a great big ole hug. And I realize he has a new movie coming. And that spot is their "promote our new movie" spot. But still. Of ALL the characters we'd LOVE to meet that we can't, do they have to waste that spot by making yet ANOTHER Pooh meeting?

Uh-oh. You guys are gonna think I hate stuffed bears. I swear, I don't. I SWEAR. Love 'em. But I also like variety and stuffed OTHER things. Like Mice. And Ducks. Just sayin'.

OK, trying to get caught up on your TR. I just read the part about BBB and The Pirates League. I have to admit that I am typing this with tears still in my eyes. I love that Mulan got to be a princess for the day. Your thoughts about women and body image issues was spot on. I think every woman reading that part can identify with what you said. I think it stinks that we go through it and continue to no matter what age we are. I am 36(for 29 more days) and I still am not comfortable with myself at times. All of your girls looked beautiful at BBB but Mulan was glowing. I am glad that she got to be a princess and I hope that she continues to feel that way.

Awww. You are gorgeous! We are the same age. I just turned 37 in April. Weight Watchers actually really helped me. When I joined at 27 it was the first time in my life I felt in control of food and my body instead of food and my body controlling me. I still struggle with feeling ugly from time to time (wrinkles, stretch marks, cellulite, etc.) but for the most part I'm at peace and view my body in a good light. The final piece of the puzzle for me was running. I started viewing my body as a machine and food as fuel since I could physically feel my body using energy.

And I'm grateful to my mother for trying so hard to make my sister and I feel confident and beautiful. I hope that I'm doing the same for my girls. But in the end, the negative female images from ads & Hollywood will probably have more influence than my lone voice. And they will all have to find their own way to peace with their bodies. And as I tell Mulan almost daily, "We're not shooting for perfect, we're shooting for good enough." She has a SERIOUS perfection complex. She inherited that from my mom. Not ME!

I think I'm gonna print her BBB picture out and frame it and put it in our hallway "gallery" so she walks past it every day.

Still following the trip report! It has been very entertaining. I may start our own pre-trip report as I am planning our meals to be as cost effective as possible. What do you think is the best way to save money eating in the parks or the best bang for the buck? I believe you said you like Cosmic Rays for value. Any others? If this might be the wrong place for this question I understand if you would prefer to ignore it.

Ignore a question? NEVER! :rotfl:

Food is kind of a tricky thing because it depends on how big of eaters you are. My family (girls) eats MUCH less that Suzy's family (boys). Though they only have 1 more person than us, we can eat at a CS restaurant for $30.00 whereas they need $50.00 for their basic needs. Of course, we can eat at Taco Bell or McDonald's for $10-15 and it costs poor Suzy an arm and a leg.

But I'll give you my advice, which I'm seriously up on since we are staying off site in June and will try to eat more efficiently than when we get the DDP (most often for free!)

First, we try to go to CS places where we can share. For example at Cosmic Ray's we can get a 1/2 chicken BBQ ribs meal and an adult 8 piece nugget meal with two large drinks (one diet, one sprite) for $27.06. This will feed our whole family.

Pinnochio Village Haus is another favorite as we get an adult chicken nugget meal (my kids REALLY like nuggets) and 2 meatball subs and this is PLENTY. And costs under $30.00 For us, $30.00 is our target price per CS.

At Epcot we LOVE the place in Mexico. La Cantina de San Angel. However, this always costs us closer to $50.00 as we need alcohol and churros in addition to our three meals. The Nachos there are PLENTY for more than one person and 2 plates of tacos can serve three people (there are 3 tacos on each plate so 2 tacos per person.)

If we don't eat in Mexico, though, we love to eat/drink around the world. Every hour or so we get another plate of food to share. Or a pastry. This is really fun as it's entertainment and yummy food.

As for TS places there are some cheaper places. And if you avoid buffets and eat your TS meal for lunch, it's quite easy to share and stay cheap.

Sci-Fi is a cheaper TS, The Plaza is a cheaper TS. We love the MK resort places, like Kona and Grand Floridian cafe, where we can share meals easily making them cheap and peaceful options. Rainforest Cafe and T-Rex are also places where the meals are HUGE (easy to share) and they are very fun places for kids to eat.

Getting appetizers as your main course can also save money. Last time we ate at San Angel (it will be in this TR) I got as my main meal an appetizer (tostadas de tinga) and so did Donald (tostadas de jaiba). Mine was PLENTY but his wasn't quite enough. And the girls got two kids meals and shared. Plus, Donald and I got a drink to share. Our total bill was $50.00 and because of the chips and salsa and Donald eating a bit of the girl's black beans, it ended up being PERFECT.

Even the Cali Grill can be done for "cheap"ish if you follow the appetizer rule. Donald and I (we've been twice) order and share: A flatbread pizza, the hearts of romaine salad, and the filet of beef. We also each get a drink and share the banana dessert. Though sharing the dessert had such mixed results that the second time we each ordered our own. :lmao: With tip that cost about $125.00. But the waiter brings your meals already split and it feels SO luxurious. And if you make your ADR at 7:30 then you can stick around for Wishes and it's this wonderful, romantic evening well worth the money to us.

Our budget for our family to eat our meals in a park for a day is $100.00. Plus a few special meals. So for a week (with weekends on both sides, so 9 days) it would be $1000.00 for the 5 of us.

Donald and I also us a Disney Visa for ALL our expenses and pay it off each month. In a year we generally have $400.00+ on it (we get all the 5 bonus points for every dollar you spend on gas & food) and spend that on our "special" meals. One year, for example, we used our rewards card for a Tusker house breakfast and to eat around Epcot and all our snacks for the week.

We had rented a house on that trip so we were able to eat some meals off site (like Pizza Hut and Outback) and we just would order to go as we pulled out of the WDW parking lot and pick it up on our way home. This saved us on drinks and tip. Milo is a MASTER bartender. If he didn't have so many other skills he could make a killing in Vegas, and generally takes a complete bar with us. So we save a LOT of money this way. We each have a drink or two we MUST get in the parks and both Milo and Donald will generally get a beer here or there. But other than that we use the alcohol in our room.

If you are staying onsite refillable mugs are awesome. If you follow the great advice on here and go home for a break at 2 pm, they easily pay for themselves. Here is how we use them:

7 a.m.: Get coffee in it. (drink in room)
8 a.m.: Get more coffee or soda for the park (drink on bus or at park)
(rinse it out and store in bottom of stroller or backpack)
noon: Dump rest of lunch soda in it for east carrying
2 p.m.: Fill up on way to room with soda. Leave room for rum on top.
5 p.m.: Put rum in as you leave room. Fill up with soda as you walk to bus.
10 p.m.: Donald refills. Whiskey.

:thumbsup2

As for breakfast: Rope drop time is SO valuable, we never waste time with a TS breakfast. Or rarely. We have yogurt/cheesesticks/granola bars at 7 am. Then after getting a bunch of rides under our belt we will sometimes stop at 10-10:30 to get more coffee and two pastries. For this we have used:
MK: Main St Bakery (a ham & egg croissant and a cinnamon roll) or two cream cheese pretzels from the Lunching pad in Tomorrowland.
DHS: We like the Writer's shop (we just like it) but many use the Rolling Stars for their bakery needs. We also LOVE the egg & cheese bagels at the corner restaurant between RnRCoaster and ToT. I looked for this but I can't remember the name and can't seem to find it.
Epcot: Because it's morning, really your only option is Sunshine Seasons. But we rarely eat a second breakfast at Epcot because we are normally waiting till 11 am when we go get something truly yummy is WS.
And AK too. Donald normally gets another coffee. But we don't generally get a second breakfast. We're much more likely to grab an 11:00 lunch.

Finally, at least for this post, if you have a fridge, we really like to heavier snacks for our kids. Like Bagelfuls, cheese, Gogurts, Slim Jims, berries, etc. These are treats for them since they don't get them every day at home and they don't feel at all deprived. Both Suzy & I have over the shoulder backpacks and strollers so we don't mind taking a few things like this. And I've packed a softsided cooler as well with Coke Zero in it. I wouldn't do this if I didn't have a stroller.

Where are you staying? Who exactly will be with you?

Loving your TR !! Especially Fort Wilderness !! DH and I are thinking of buying a pop-up camper which I think would be perfect for the fort !!. Can't wait to read more !!

Thanks so much for the answers! We are planning $100 a day for the four of us -- boys 9 and 11. I think we should be in line with your family. I am glad I asked you, you are a wealth of knowledge. We are offsite this time thanks to the timeshare gift so we will eat breakfast and have evening drinks at the condo to save a little and hit rope drop every morning. We are gonna get the most out of this expensive "free" trip!

Keep your report coming, sorry I interrupted your thoughts but my wife and really appreciate your thoughtful answers.

We are staying near the Arabian Nights dinner show and Me, my wife, and 2 boys are all that are making the trip. We will likely visit other relatives at the beach after the week at Disney. We will be down during the 2nd week of June.

It would be perfect! You will absolutely LOVE the fort. Our Fort evening is still coming up and it was a highlight of our trip for sure!

Ok. So boys & offsite & timeshare.

Here are my "bonus tips!" for your situation:

1) What we love to do is get frozen things for the kids, frozen pizzas, fries, chicken nuggets, etc. Any junk food they wish they had at home that they aren't allowed. For 9 & 11 year old boys tortilla chips and cheese that they can turn into nachos, huge bags of chips and dip, etc. You know the junk your kids love. This costs you a fair piece at the grocery store but the benefit is:
2) Stay in the parks until 4 p.m. instead of 2 p.m. Then on your way out (I mentioned this already) order from Outback or Chevy's or Olive Garden meals for you and your dh to go. Pick it up on your way back to the timeshare. Give the boys a heavy snack and while they swim and you and dh eat a leisurely meal. Then when they are down swimming they can make pizzas in the oven while you nap. At 7 or 8 p.m. head back over for the night time show. This saves money, makes everyone feel like they got a big treat, and makes the nighttime shows very enjoyable and magical.
3) Frozen pancakes, waffles, sausage, bacon can all easily be warmed up in the microwave by 9-11 year old boys. This gives them a real breakfast at 7 a.m. which will probably keep them full until 11 a.m. (especially at WDW where they are busy.) This means you can skip the 2nd breakfast and eat lunch at 11 a.m. Then a 3 p.m. fun snack. And the dinner as I listed above.
4) I like to buy myself a cheesecake circle from the grocery bakery. At home $15.00 seems outrageous. But on vacation it's a bargain. On our last offsite trip, Charming and I had a piece each night together while we watched football. It was awesome. Cheesecake may not be your thing, but whatever IS your thing, having dessert at home saves money and feels like a treat.
5) Suzy and I DO NOT cook on vacation. Period. So our grocery budget when in a place with a full kitchen is $250.00. This includes paper products (we don't do dishes either), toilet paper, soda, bottled water, etc.
6) Since you won't have a stroller, I'd invest in a NICE cross-body bag. There is a thread on the Theme park board on this right now. But I only bring one bottle of water for emergency needs.. Just ask for a cup of ice water at any CS place. It's free. And refill that one bottle when needed.
7) Buy bottles of pop at the store, not cans. This way you can open it at your time share, take a swig, and fill it back up with alcohol. Then pop it in your bag and you and dh have a nice drink to enjoy the fireworks with.
8) Buy 2 big bags of caramel popcorn in Germany. Best caramel corn ever and will make you feel like you are still at WDW while you're snacking on it offsite.

If I think of more, I'll post. We will be there the same time as you and once I start my pre-trippie and Suzy and I get a tiny bit further in our plans, we'll post our grocery list.

Great info, I am feeling better about this trip all the time! We will miss the days of the strollers in a good and bad way. We have a good Bagallini we can carry things into the parks. What parks can we take drinks into? I was under the impression that MK was the only place that allowed outside food do the others by chance. We would so bring sodas and granola bars. We are making our daily outline for which parks for which days. Do you have any tips for avoiding the parking fees each day. We are so accustomed to being on property I forgot we would be paying to park. I am looking to see if we can get a shuttle from the condo.

I'm gonna take this one. Perla was swamped today at work. You can take food and drinks into all 4 parks. The bagallini should be perfect. You can even take a soft sided cooler if you want. And there are lockers to rent if you wanted to take more in than you want to "carry". We haven't had to do this yet since we have the aforementioned strollers but it's on my radar for future years. I'll frequently buy "Disney themed" snacks and pack them like single serving bags of cheezits shaped like toy story characters or classic Disney fruit snacks (has Peter pan and dumbo shapes, etc). Makes it more fun for us.

Parking is a fee that you just need to budget for. $14 for the day. You only
have to pay once even if you park hop or leave and come back in the evening.
Personally I wouldn't be happy with a shuttle from an offsite place. I've yet to hear good things about the frequency or reliability of outside shuttles. Just put aside the $14/day and save somewhere else.

Ok Perla, I'm ready for you to have some time to post the next chapter.

I know I'll miss strollers in the future since they can't hold things, but the freedom!!! You'll love it. I doubt you'll miss the stroller for more than a second.

And I agree with Suzy, just pay the WDW parking fee. When we go to NYC, Washington D.C., etc. parking can be $25.00 for 2 hours. It's horrible but that's the way it is and I just put it in the budget and work around it. It's WAY too much hassle to park 10 blocks away in a cheaper parking lot and then hoof the 10 blocks.

Same way at WDW. And despite the Disboard whining, $14-15 for come and go parking at the world's greatest tourist attraction is a bargain.

Such great info about planning meals, the refillable mug, and eating offsite! Thanks so much for the great tips!

No problem! Suzy and I should start a Dear Mouse Girls column!

Ok Perla, I'm ready for you to have some time to post the next chapter.

Oy, work! It's getting in the way of my rich inner Disney world! Last night was the worst night! I know, in reality WAY worse nights have happened, but still I want to whine about it.

I'm working hard as our family business needs babysitting for awhile but I'm enjoying the extra work and the feeling of satisfaction of seeing results. And yesterday I did my normal routine: up at 6:30, kids ready for school, on the bus, at work by 7:30, work, work. Then I came home and ran around like a fool for 2 hours at lunchtime cause we were having dinner guests and my house is trashed from neglect since I've been working so much, and went back to work to finish up the day.

So it was busy, but not awful. Then I get back to work and a girl is working our front desk that is inexperienced and that is where things began to fall apart as she kept making errors. Since that job touches all the staff and our customers this was TERRIBLE. The president of our company and me (I'm VP) spent 2 hours trying to fix her and fix all the issues. In the middle of all this Mulan and Ariel got off the bus (they get dropped off at my work place) and Mulan immediately started pestering Boo (who comes to work with me and has been sick and cranky all week) who then falls to the ground and starts screaming. To the delight of all the people standing there, I dragged Boo by the feet across our shiny tile floors into my office and closed the door.

I let Mulan have it. Then she burst into tears too. So I left both of them sobbing in my office (door closed) and finished my work day (well, kind of finished since the disgruntled employees kept calling my cell phone.)

Got home late and only had an hour to finish up dinner. I had a veggie lasagna, marinated chicken, and homemade rolls rising. Mulan and I set the table with fancy china and cloth napkins in rings. At 5:15 I turned the oven on and it was BROKEN!!!! I have the best gas convection oven in the world. You cannot imagine the stress of it not working.

I called Donald and said, "Come home ASAP!" He said, "10 minutes" which translated into a full half hour in actual time.

He came home & pulled it out (and all the nasty cooties under it) and that was the moment our company texted me, "We're almost there." Sigh.

It was at this moment I ordered Pizza Hut. The guy visiting us helped Donald with the oven (we had to order a part so it'll be broken over the weekend at least) and then for dessert I rolled out the bread dough and fried it in oil, dregged it in sugar and cinnamon and topped it with honey and whipped cream. We went ahead and ate the Pizza on the fancy china and drank Merlot instead of beer and everyone claimed it was the very best dinner ever. The ultimate cheese lovers alfredo stuffed crust went AMAZING with the Merlot. My girlfriend and I split a piece of that for our appetizer and then finished with a lovely veggie lovers hand tossed.

Then we had lovely conversations until late last night.

So alls well that ends well. But from about 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. yesterday was touch and go, that's for sure!

As for a new chapter: I got the Epcot night pictures uploaded. So it'll be with us shortly!

We  World Showcase. And this was not to be our only trip around the world on this trip so our agenda was pretty loose. We needed to do Germany KimPossible. Suzy and I had been fighting all day about which treat was most important: School Bread, German Caramel Corn, or French pastry. I was in the school bread/french pastry camp. She was solidly in the Caramel Corn camp. I'll tell you how that battle came out later. ;) But one of those was on our list.

And the Suzy clan had ADR's at Morocco while the Perla clan had ADR's at Teppan Edo. Our ADR had been hotly contested and we almost split up at one point but finally settled on Teppan Edo all together. We made our ADR's for the same time, just at different places.

And finally, Suzy REALLY wanted Jack-Jack to ride Test Track. Which it is here I must correct an error I made earlier in this TR and let stand. I said that Jack rode his first roller coaster at BTMRR. That was not true. He was asleep.

Instead, TT was to be his first real thrill ride and we were quite concerned he would be too short. But it was on our to do list to at least try.

Other than that, our plans were to enjoy the F&G show, get our passports stamped, and see whatever miscellaneous entertainment we happened upon.

We started out after Mexico doing a do-over family picture with the PhotoPass person. Though when we got the Photopass pictures I realized our first one outside the park wasn't as bad as I had imagined. But here's the do over:

Photo0254FourBySix.jpg

We checked out Maelstrom to see if it had a wait (it did) and so skipped on by Norway and China. Boo noticed all the little princesses waiting for Akershus and wanted to get in that line as she knew exactly what was in that building. And she kept looking down at her own attire like a princess dress would magically appear on her if she kept looking down. She then turned to me and said, "Why am I not Belle?" I told her we'd come back later in the week but she wouldn't be Belle. She seemed OK with that, but she did keep looking down at her shirt in sadness.

Until, that is, she saw the best thing she had ever seen EVER:

IMG_1232.jpg

She saw these Lion King topiaries (I hadn't even noticed them as I was watching a bunch of crazy boys playing drums) in the little African Outpost and she was out of the stroller like a shot!

After our sojourn with Timon and crew we continued our journey to Italy. For those of you who have never done a KimPossible mission with 8-12 year olds, be aware. The first one is AWESOME and the whole family is so excited and it's the coolest thing Disney has ever thought of. But what unsuspecting parents are unaware of is that this age group of children will then be incapable of doing anything else at Epcot ever again. From the moment your feet touch the park soil they will be pestering you. And once you get the ticket for a mission it is like money burning a hole in their pocket.

So as much as I would like to say this was a leisurely stroll, it was more of a dash to Italy. They did give us a little break when they saw this SUPER cool display:
P3210090.jpg

Ariel is cute in the picture but it looks like Mulan and Buzz were ready to move on:
IMG_0906.jpg

I wanted to get a picture of the entire display as it was all the dwarves doing different jobs. It was REALLY cute. But because of this there were a ton of people looking at it and trying to take photos of it which made it nearly impossible to for anyone to actually get a photo of it. So, much as I hate to disappoint my readers, you just had to have been there. It was awesome and I'm sorry you missed it.

We quickly walked past Germany (after being wooed by the Snow White display) as we would be back to do it thoroughly and went to Italy to get our mission phone.

This just charmed me big time.
IMG_1189.jpg

IMG_1190.jpg

I was quickly rushed by these delights, however, as I DO happen to have a 9 & 10 year old who had no interest in these flowers and could see the KimPossible mission spot, "Come ON, Mom!"

This lady was the most soldier like KP phone hander outer. We got ALL the details in detail. Seriously. Just give us the phones. It is not rocket science.

IMG_1416.jpg

The big kids headed off to Germany and the rest of us kind of split up for a minute. I told my girls I would be there in just a little while. Donald took Boo into Italy. And Suzy, Milo, and I were together for a minute. This is where Milo got left outside a store for like a half hour. See, Suzy and I were taking a moment of big kid free time to browse the little store in Italy. It is a food based store and just darling and she and I NEVER get to shop kid free together. Never.

IMG_1420.jpg

I was not aware but Milo was standing on the Italy side exit. When we left, we left by the Germany side exit. He had no idea and therefore stood there awaiting us. Whoops!

I left Suzy and went to check on my girls and make sure they were following the "share the phone and yes this means you each get a turn holding it" rule. They MOSTLY were following the rule. So I stayed to supervise the fairness.
IMG_4887.jpg

Meanwhile, Jack-Jack had found Donald and Boo. I really don't know anything about this picture, nor which parent was in charge of Jack-Jack. But it's a cute picture:
IMG_0907.jpg

Because I was in Germany watching beer steins dance:
IMG_4888.jpg

The girls were sharing pretty good and I was bored so I went out to check out the train station:

OK. That's it for this chapter. Coming up: the rest of our Epcot & meals.

That chapter just kind of dumped you in the middle of lots of things going on. Sadly, I don't really have a lot of pictures of this hour of our Epcot time.

I have no idea what Suzy & Milo were doing so I'll just leave that blank.

Donald and Boo were in Italy and had run into a little musical troop. Boo got invited to do circle dances with some other children and Donald said it was just absolutely wonderful.

I was checking out Germany while loosely following Mulan and Ariel around on their mission.

Donald texted and asked where we were. He came on over and we did the Germany Kidcot together. They had a Lightening McQueen thing that we got for Boo. Her big sisters were also very generous and let her help them stick their Passport stickers:

IMG_0909.jpg

Mulan messed around with the costumes:
IMG_0910.jpg

Because Mulan and I were a little bored while coloring was happening and the like, I found myself in the caramel shop. How on earth did THAT happen? Despite Suzy going ON and ON about the caramel corn, I followed the advice of a TR'er on here to avoid the delicious looking cupcakes and instead buy an ugly caramel brownie.

We took our brownie and bottle of water and sat down in the square there in Germany and Ariel, Mulan, and I shared it all. It was good. But, and you should just know this because it comes up often in my vacations, I'm a baker. And I'm good. So baked goods have to be REALLY special for me to like them.

Sadly, I make a better caramel topped brownie. I know, I know, WHY on EARTH would I listen to a Disboarder instead of my very reliable sister? That is the question. It remains unanswered.

IMG_4892.jpg

In that picture was HGTV F&G show scavenger hunt. I got all excited but we never did it.

I include the following picture to accompany a story, though the man in the story is not in this photo.
IMG_1421.jpg

So I'm here in this area next to America walking about. Donald says, "Let's do the American Kidcot." This caused me to stop dead. As I was going to change direction.

Here is a big tip. No matter what happens, do NOT stop on a dime while walking at WDW. Because people, and there are a lot of people at WDW, are walking behind you. And they may or may not be paying attention.

So I stop and immediately upon stopping a fun loving group of adults who were walking behind me did NOT stop. This caused the guy directly behind me to bonk his completely full glass of German beer on my back. I got not a SINGLE drop of beer on myself. He had VERY quick reflexes and spilled barely an ounce. However, the ounce he DID spill went ALL over him.

Sigh. I felt TERRIBLE! He was really nice about it. But stay tuned. He comes up again.

Once I got this all sorted out and helped him mop up his shirt, I followed my family into America. Normally, we don't spend much time at the American pavilion. But this time we did find something to entertain ourselves:

IMG_0911.jpg

This little American garden was transformed into something magical! The theme was something about recycling. Now, I live in Appalachia. I know EXACTLY what discarded tires, beds, and other trash looks like when thrown into yards. And you can barely walk a block in these parts and not see a barrel or old tire with petunias planted in it. Yet never have I had a desire to put an old tire in my yard and plant things in it. Because, no matter what you do it, it still looks like an old tire.

But, I was mesmerized by this garden. I walked around and around and around. They had an old tire pyramid with corn and other vegetables planted in it. And seriously, I almost had Donald talked into getting me 10 old tires and planting vegetables in them. Thank goodness I came to my senses. It for SURE would have looked like a bunch of discarded tires with same sad, straggling corn planted near it.

But check out this old iron bed:
IMG_4897.jpg

After me drooling of prettified trash, we started to head over to Japan to kill some time before dinner. Donald had a picture he had taken years ago of our girls framed in the Japanese arch, back to back, looking angry. I think that time around they may have actually been mad. This time they were not at all mad. You can tell.
IMG_0917.jpg

But Donald had to take this picture REALLY quickly as Boo, who wasn't around the first time, could NOT understand why she was not wanted in this photos. How dare Donald not want a picture of her, she is the queen, after all.

IMG_0918.jpg

After some stress over getting this photo, we headed in to the Japanese Kidcot. We had broken from Suzy's clan as they were heading over the Morocco for their dinner.

Before we left the area I tried to get pictures of the bonsai trees because I don't actually have any pictures of these, despite admiring them greatly:

IMG_4898.jpg

IMG_1192.jpg

IMG_4899.jpg

This was a nice Kidcot. Some Kidcot people are better with kids than others. And this girl was very personable.

We then followed the sound of the drums. I tried to get a picture of these women where their arms were above their head which they do frequently. Donald and I were both impressed with the size of their arm muscles! I've never drummed big giant drums but evidently it is an excellent upper body work out because Donald, who has fairly big biceps and pumps iron, was impressed.

But I never could capture the moment. So ya'll get what ya get:
IMG_4900.jpg

Donald had a great idea for a photo and was lining the girls up on these steps and a very nice lady offered to take the photos of all of us. She was so thorough she was like a professional photographer, telling jokes to get us to laugh, trying to get Boo to smile, and taking multiple photos. LOVE this lady!
IMG_4902.jpg

We then ran down the stairs and put our name in with the Teppan Edo lady at tucked behind the stairs/elevator and then went up the elevator with the stroller.

On our way in the hostess lady upstairs gave the girls these origami birds. They LOVED these.
IMG_4904.jpg

Also, do you see the Duffy. Isn't it cool how the Kidcot person writes hello and teaches your kid to say hello in their language? Seriously, people, World Showcase is the coolest.

So, while we were waiting for our little square thing to have a circle of red lights go off, Suzy and fam were also waiting for their light up thing to go off.

But they were in the courtyard in Morocco. Charming had stayed up the night before until 3 am. And he's 13 and needs a lot of sleep since he grows one inch every month (this is NOT an exaggeration.) And he was recovering from bronchitis. Which total side note: he did not recover fully and did end up with a mild case of pneumonia.

P3210096.jpg

We waited under 10 minutes. I had gone to the restroom so it felt like instant to me.

Which let me say, I generally try to use the restroom so I don't have to be bothered while I'm relaxing at dinner. I asked Boo if she had to go but she was so enamored with her bird that she said no. This proved to be a lie.

When I came back it was time to go to our table.

At Teppan Edo a nice lady comes in with a lot of bowing and hands out menus, warm, wet towels, gets drinks, and hands out chopsticks with a little lesson. We also got multiple speeches on the grill being REALLY hot.

IMG_4906.jpg

Suzy and her group were also being seated. They were at Marrakesh. Donald and I, Suzy and Milo, and some of the rest of us had eaten here numerous years ago. Donald and I had shared the Chicken Bastilla as an appetizer. It sound different, chicken in phyllo sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. Sweet and savory. I love that combo. But with the very first bite I swear to you the flavors were cilantro and lavender. It tasted exactly, and I mean exactly, like soap. You know how you put hand lotion on and then eat something and lick your fingers forgetting about the hand lotion until the yucky hand lotion taste is in your mouth. Just like that.

With that and the very dry shish kabob and so-so belly dancer, Donald and I have never been back. I normally am willing to give restaurants two tries before I cross them off the list. But truth be told, Donald has been to numerous Mediterranean restaurants and even the ones that I think are great, he's not a big fan. And neither of us loves tabbouleh, cucumbers and yogurt, nor pureed eggplant.

As for hummus, falafel, warm homemade pita, rosemary-lemon chicken with olives, and baklava: I make GREAT versions of these. So it was an easy call for us to cross this off our list. If you do love this style food and aren't crazy about making it yourself, the CS place here is better. IMHO.

So I was not at all surprised to hear that this will be Suzy and Milo's last time as well. They both LOVE this style food and were not impressed. Sorry for the bad review. I'm just trying to be honest about my opinions. Take it with a grain of salt, since I listened to a Disboard review and got saddled with a sub par German brownie.

On the plus side, they do serve alcoholic drinks:
P3210099.jpg

Let's all take a moment to drool over Suzy's iphone cover. Hello? How cute is that???

Japan ALSO has alcohol, much to Donald's delight.
IMG_4907.jpg

The above are the photos Suzy & I texted to each other. When not with each other, we pretty much text constantly while at WDW. So we got the blow by blow of these dinners.

Donald tried to get the lovely girl to tell him which sake was which and which he should drink. Normally when you get a flight this is what happens. But the concept was foreign to her and she finally convinced Donald to just try them any way he wanted. I tried them and only liked one. Sorry, Donald will have to tell you himself what they tasted like.

Let's go back to Morocco for a minute.
P3210100.jpg

Isn't that totally gorgeous? This place is so amazing inside. Which, to me, makes it even sadder that the food isn't that great. OK, back to my tangent, I just want to say it's pretty easy to make this kind of food well. My dad, my mom, Suzy, and I all can make lots of things on this menu really well. I mean couscous? Seriously. You just warm up some water, throw in the couscous, 5 minutes later it turns itself into a side dish. Just throw in some fresh lemon juice, kalamata olives, and parsley and you're done. Any one reading this could make it. Just sayin'.

Meanwhile, we our chef had arrived. Our chef last year was a great cook, but didn't have a lot of antics. I actually thought he held back so as to not scare Boo. This year's chef arrived in grand style and didn't hold back at ALL!
IMG_1199.jpg

Hold on. Picture count!

OK, here is I believe Suzy's meal. And I think it is lemon chicken.
P3210103.jpg

She will have to tell you about it as I only know what Allears says. I've made several versions of lemon chicken and I'm not familiar with the sauce on this one. It kind of looks like a gravy? Of course, I've never braised it before. Normally you soak it over night in lemon juice, spices, and garlic cloves. Then bake it with the olives. It just tastes fresh. What did this taste like Suzy?

And here is what I can only assume is Milo's. Is it a lamb shank? Personally, I don't make lamb very well at all. But Suzy just two weeks ago made a killer lamb that her entire family loved. A little comparison, Suzy?

P3210104.jpg

Back at the Teppan Edo some of our food was done. Boo ate EVERY drop of her rice and all of her noodles. I normally would have separated out the veggies from this but with the lovely dips (do you see the white stuff around her mouth? She drained those bowls of dipping sauce) I thought she might eat some of the veggies. And indeed she did. I really did eat most of her zucchini but she had some. And we moms take any victory we can get.

IMG_4912.jpg

Oh, and she ate exclusively with chopsticks. Boo only eats with her fingers and finds a fork absolutely impossible to use despite her being four. From the moment the chopsticks touched her fingers, she was easily able to eat rice, noodles, and chicken with them. Pick up the rice, dip it in the sauce, get it to her mouth without dropping any. Clearly, she was born into the wrong food culture.

While we were enjoying the first bites of our food and the delightful entertainment of our amazing chef, Suzy & Milo's entertainment had arrived as well:
P3210105.jpg

Again, how beautiful is this place?
P3210106.jpg

Jack-Jack being SHY as always. And showing off his security blanket (whichever toy he happens to have in his hand.)
P3210107.jpg

Back at our table our meat was done. As my meet touched my plate Boo said, "I have to go!" Grrr. Seriously???

Grrrrrrrr. So up we went and she went potty. This is a beautiful bathroom but there is no need to hang out in there and this trip to the potty took forever. Sigh. Forever!

Back we went to enjoy our main course. My family ate every single bite we were given. Every bite. We swapped meat here and there and Donald got everyone's mushrooms which he ate every single one. We cleaned out plates. We all had to have extra sauces given to us. I did skip my rice because I hate to waste belly space on stupid rice.

Then we ordered dessert. I had gotten the chocolate ginger cake the year before and remembered loving the topping but skipping the actual cake. When it came I was pleasantly surprised that this year I loved the entire thing. Thing ginger adds this nice interesting aspect, and the cake was the perfect moistness and texture. Here comes my highest honor: I could not replicate this at home. Actually, the entire meal is not replicable by me. So thumbs up all around from this family.

While I was savoring my every bite of dessert, Boo had to go again. Sigh. This time was number 1 instead so it was a quick one but none-the-less annoying to me who likes to use my dinner time to RELAX! Can I not have a single moment to sit down? This is the ONE thing that Suzy has that I don't. 4 boys means Milo does this duty. I don't begrudge her this as lots about having 4 boys is way harder than my 3 girls. But I'm still jealous.

When I came back, Donald had already paid. And my cake had been finished off by others. Oh well. There are other treats about and I was stuffed anyway because we ate a LOT.

Suzy had texted that their dessert and bill had arrived and they would be done shortly. So we headed over there. But all was silent in the courtyard:
IMG_4914.jpg

So we decided to mess around and see if Aladdin and Jasmine were around to meet. They kind of were:
IMG_0923.jpg

LOVE this. Who likes mosaics?
IMG_4915.jpg

Sharpie alert!
IMG_4916.jpg

About 15 minutes or so after we got there, they were done as well:
IMG_1428.jpg

Sooner than later, we were headed to France. Suzy, did you do Kidcot here this night?
Photo0260FourBySix.jpg

Belle was out with no line at all. She LOVED the color of our shirts:
IMG_4919.jpg

IMG_4920.jpg

After meeting Belle we were passing my FAVORITE spot in Epcot. The place where they sell Grand Marnier slushies. Yum! Whereas Belle had no line, this place DID have a line. Guess we know the average age wandering about World Showcase on spring break is generally over 21. All the little tables were full and I didn't see a single Grand Marnier slushie on any of tables. Really people?

Because of this, and because I like to be nosy sometimes, I listened to what everyone was ordering in front of me. Champagne. And French white wine. And lots of other things. Person after person, different orders. Plus, even though there was quite the line everyone in the line got more than one drink. So this is clearly a popular place and obviously they have great drinks. And great variety.

I'm in line being nosy and I hear a familiar voice behind me. It's the beer guy! He didn't recognize me, you'd think he would since I had been with matching t-shirt people, but I sure did recognize him. I immediately introduced myself and apologized again. He said it was no big deal and the important thing was that he had got to drink almost all of his beer. We then just started chitchatting the line away.

It really wasn't that interesting of a conversation except for one thing. I didn't offer to buy him a drink and I still feel guilty. I'm just not used to bar etiquette and it never crossed my mind. Not until I was well on my way that it occurred to me that it was perfect. I could have just gone up to the counter and said, "One Grand Marnier slushie and whatever this gentleman is having." That would have made me a super cool person. Instead of the lame person I actually am.

Dagnabit. I wish I was cool.

While I standing in my long line, my family had no problem entertaining themselves:
Photo0269FourBySix.jpg

Would you like to dance?
IMG_0927.jpg

IMG_0929.jpg

OK, prepare yourselves. When we got our Photopass disk they put bonus F&G pictures on it. Up until this point you've all been, "Oh, Suzy, thank you for these gorgeous pictures of the F&G show. We love your pictures." Well, that is all over. Because when you see the professional picture you'll be like, "Suzy who?"

Photo0275FourBySix.jpg

Suzy and Milo were also able to entertain themselves:
Photo0284FourBySix.jpg

P3210108.jpg

IMG_1434.jpg

I was all drinked up and a happy camper.

We were doing quite well with our drinks around the world. Mexico: check. Germany: check. Japan: check. Morocco: check. And perhaps Italy. Donald? Suzy? Was there drinking in Italy this evening?
