I'm a car person so I didn't have an answer for her...

My sister is the proud owner of a wonderful Honda CRV. Her only problem is her groceries rolling around in the back. She's seen many different items to hold them down but I thought I'd ask you guys... well, because you guys know EVERYTHING!

Any good ideas?

You can buy a rack that straps on the backseat and has hooks for the plastic bags to hook onto

or

you can place milk crates in the back and put the bags in them

The key to that is to buy so many groceries that they barely all fight in so that the bags are packed in like sardines! I tend to go with paper vs. plastic, and that helps too. If the bagger bags them up properly, they don't fall over as easily. Heavy things on the bottom, lighter things on top, etc.

I love my SUV!

I usually buy enough to fill the entire back of my SUV! However, you can buy some sort of cargo net that hooks to the back of many SUV's.

In instances where I don't have enough I just tie my bags so they don't roll all over the place.

Hope she enjoys her new ride!

my pathfinder came with a cargo net - which works really well...but I can still 'hear' stuff rolling around back there that didn't fit in the net!

my mom bought this molded plastic thingie for the back of her 4Runner...has rails and such that keeps her groceries in one spot.

there are a ton of "trunk organizers' out there to be found...I could have SWORN I saw something similar in the Target Flyer this week...

lemme check it out and i'll post a picture if I find it...

oops - sorry, it was Linens-n-things.
this might work for her:

I have the thing stinkerbelle pictured in her post, and it does a pretty good job of keeping the groceries in one place. Often, I'll put them in the back seat, because they don't roll so much.

My SUV has a cargo net and hooks on the side that I use for the plastic bags :)

Those containers look neat though.

I use the car seat for eggs, bread, milk and fruits - nope, not kidding. I grocery shop sans kids so they are sitting there free to use - gotta tell you, its great!

But in all seriousness, I am with Blondie - I fill my cargo area normally. But when I have less packages, they go in the backseat. I have used my nets in the cargo area on ocassion.

::yes:: Me, too!

Tell her to move to brooklyn and walk to corner market for items and leave car parked on street only to move it when alternate side of the street parking is in effect. If that is not possible, a couple of boxes to put the bags in will do the trick.

Honda actually sells several different optional assessories that can help. A cargo net is one. Some are pricey to get through them if you did not get as part of the "deal", the net is not too much though.

I do the same thing.

As for the car thing that the other poster mentioned, I have seen them at Target as well.

Thanks everyone!

stinkerbelle: That thing at LnT looks just like my sister. I sent her the link.

She would NEVER buy enough food to fill her trunk. She's divorced and has one adult child who does not live with her. She shops like a bachelor!

Patch'sD: Talk about what I'm USED TO! No wonder we don't have a clue what to do with this kind of living! :teeth:
