Every trip I make a point of trying something I would never ever eat at home. This time it is sushi. Where is the best place to get sushi in the World? Also, anyone have any favorites for a first timer?

Hi Chloesmom!

Personally I love Kimonos for sushi, but everyone says California Grill's sushi is incredible, too. There was a sushi thread not too long ago, and someone posted pictures of the sushi they had ordered at CG. Here's the link:

I had never had sushi until my last trip to DisneyWorld. I tried the sushi at the Tempura Kiku in Japan and I believe you can get it in the bar there as well.

It was fantastic but holy buckets, that green stuff "wasabi??" is hot hot HOT! Even my TEETH were burning! LOL

It was fun to watch them make it right there in front of you too!

If you don't want to go out of your way for something different, the bar or Tempura Kiku in the Japan pavillion is the perfect place to stop - particularly if you haven't had sushi before and just want to try it - you can order a snack mid-afternoon as you stroll around WS - see if you like it. If you don't, something more familiar will be close. I've heard Kimono's is wonderful as is the CG.

I find about six peices makes a good light meal - depending on the size of the peices. I perfer shashimi (raw fish over rice) over maki (the seaweed rolls). Tuna and salmon are both mild tasting. And the eel is fantastic (and cooked - don't think slimy eel).

Wasabi is hot. The way to eat it is to let a little dissolve in your soy sauce and then dip the sushi in the soy sauce. But if you like the burn, you can smear it directly on the sushi. (If you REALLY like the burn, just eat some wasabi).

The sushi at California Grill was AMAZING! Wolfgang Pucks was good (good enough that I'd go back), but not nearly as good as CG.

WDWPLUTO voiced my opinion exactly. The shushi at Puck's Cafe is very good. I order it often. But the sushi at Cali Grill is WONDERFUL!:D

We have a PS for the CG already so that makes it very easy. Do they have a sampler deal that is like an appetizer? I am afraid that if I do not like it I will go hungry ( yeah...like that happens).
Thanks for your advice!

We have enjoyed the sushi at both Tempura Kiku and Matsu No Ma Lounge in the Japanese pavillian in Epcot.

CG does have a sushi sampler platter. It is great to share with the whole table.:D We had it last week.
