is it worth going for sushi in Japan at epcot? anywhere else in wdw? Anyone been to blue zoo? We're pretty sophisticated restaurant goers and I'd like to surprise my husband with an excellent meal without the kids!

Thanks!

Kimonos at the Swan has excellent sushi/sashimi. Their Kobe beef and duck skewers appetizers are heavenly. On top of that, they have karaoke after 9pm.

The Swan caters to many Japanese nationals so I figure it has to be authentic to please the Japanese.

Both DH and I consider ourselves pretty sophisticated foodies.

Don't bother with the sushi in Japan - it's too commercialized to the american market.

The sushi at Kimono's (Swan) is fantastic with very good tempura and other appitizers as well. But it's more of a bar atmosphere. Probably been 20 or more times. FYI - they only open at 4 or 5pm.

The sushi at Wolfgang Pucks is always FANTASTIC. You can eat sushi in the sushi bar or in the restaurant (although the restaurant is generally very loud).
but it does give you the option of eating sushi as a meal or as an appitizer. Also been 20 or more times. Great option for lunch too!

The sushi at the Californian Grill is also VERY good. The view can't be beat and the service has always been great for us. The oak grilled beef fillet and the pork tenderloin with polenta is to die for with dinner and start with the sushi. Best of both worlds. Probably been 5 times or so

Blue Zoo - been twice. Stone crab claws are a personal favorite (if available as they are only available Nov - May) They don't have sushi on the menu. But the chef (Todd English) has a great selection of fish and meats in a very ultra modern atmosphere. Plan on spending BIG $

Thanks! Poolgirl- I'm psyched because I have a PS at california grill for next sat. night! Didn't know they had sushi. I am definitely going to check out Kimono's. but where is wolfgang puck's restaurant?

We've been to Olives in DC, also owned by Todd English who happened to be there that particular night. I asked him about Blue Zoo and he seemed pleasantly surprised that I knew about it! I haven't been able to find too much info about it on this board. anyway we didn't make it there last year but will plan on making the res once we get to disney this time. thanks for your input.

I'm leaving Monday, can't wait. :cheer2:

Wolfgang Puck's is in Downtown Disney :)

I would in no way call my self a sushi expert, and living in cornfield county Ohio we don't have a huge variety of different restaurants that serve sushi, but...the sushi in Japan isn't bad. We usually eat at the Matsanoma lounge at least once a trip and enjoy it although it is pretty much the same selection you get at most restaurants.

We've heard lots of good things about Kimono's and are looking forward to trying it in    3 weeks!!!

I agree, Wolfgang Pucks has great sushi, as does the small, Matsunoma Lounge. We eat sushi quite a bit, and we love Matsunoma Lounge. It's nice because we have always just been able to walk right in. They also have great tempura. Last year, my sister called my cell phone while we were eating there and didn't know I was at DW, and she asked where I was, and I said, "I'm in Japan, eating sushi"! It was funny! Good luck!:earsgirl:

Until I went to the California Grill in Feb and Chef State sent over a platter of sushi for our table. It was delicious. I crave it now. Apparently they have one of a very few female sushi chefs there and she is fantastic. I won't have sushi any where else but I'd get it again there and happily pay for it this time.

Absolutely EXCELLENT!!!

Agree re:Wolfgangs...absolutely excellent!!

Matsu No Ma Lounge only has a limited selection. If you want California
or Spicy Tuna maki, this is fine. But if you want nigiri sushi and more
complex rolls, I've had great sushi at Wolfgang Puck's sushi bar (Downtown
Disney, West Side).

I want to try Kimonos, and I've heard from a friend that the sushi roll she
had at California Grill was outstanding. (Sounded like the roll I had at WP's.)
Since I personally love the quality of food from California Grill, I wouldn't
hesistate to try their sushi.

We have been to Blue Zoo, but we didn't get sushi. We like Kimonos at the Swan...it's excellent. Oh, CA Grille has good sushi too.

We have tried many many places for sushi and I have never found anyone better than wolfgang Pucks.

The sushi chefs are the nicest fellows. Always striking up conversations on what we liked the best and if there was another combination I would like. They are more than happy to make it for you.

I especially love to try the specials. We had a sushi (cant remember the name) with filet mignon (sliced very very thin) as a top layer, yellow fin tuna and some sweet and spicy pepper sauce it was unbelievable. I know some would say sushi should be seafood only ...... but it was awesome.

Went to the Zoo on our trip last October. It was crowded with "conventioneers" and as a result, quite noisy. Also frazzled the wait staff somewhat, with lots of tables of 6-8-10 diners, all bellowing for "more bread" , "more water" "I need butter", "there's ice in my coke", etc etc etc. Ugh! A servers nightmare. For us as well, having to listen to it all--
We hope to go back next trip and enjoy it in a more peaceful setting..the food was good!!

Is the sushi they serve as an appetizer at Teppanyaki from the same sushi chefs as at Matsunuma Lounge. If so, i would skip it. That sushi was TERRIBLE. It tasted like something you would get from a grocery store. If they are truly different, I'd love to know so that we can try Matsunuma.

Anyone know?
