We have the DDP. I've made a reservation at Tokyo Dining because I wanted sushi one night, but I read that the Sushi is on a special menu and can't use the DDP for it. :crazy2: Is that accurate? Is it the same for Kona Cafe? We also have a ADR at Cal Grill but we are paying there OOP. Can someone confirm this for me please. TIA :worried:

i have used the DDP at Tokyo dining before. how ever it was a while ago so I cant remember if there are certain items you have to choose from but I did use the DP

It looks like several of the entrees (which Im sure are included on DDP) include a sushi roll as a side, so that could be an option. We really enjoyed the sushi at Tokyo Dining when we were there a couple weeks ago. There's also something very charming about their service - very polite and formal. We were on the DDP but paid OOP for our lunch, saving the credits for another meal where we'd be spending more. There are also several sushi combination plates on the menu that are similar in price to the entrees - I can't think of a reason why they would let you use one credit for a $30 entree but not a $25 sushi combo. Sorry I can't give a 100% answer - like I said, we paid cash because we stopped for lunch and wanted to save the credits for something else so I didn't pay much attention. I would recommend Tokyo Dining either way - we really enjoyed it. Depending on what your dining companions like, you could always do one entree and pay cash for a few a la carte sushi rolls or something.

I agree that the combination platters SHOULD be available on the dining plan.

We love Tokyo Dining! We are major fans of all things Japanese, so we were ready with questions, and correct table manners. Before you eat, put your hands together and say "Itadakimas" (kind of phonetic). It is not a prayer, just a thank you, and an acknowledgement that something gave it's life for your food. Do that, and you will have wonderful service, great info, and an overall great time. Origato is thank you, and a nice little bow works great too.

Oh, and get the sake warm. It's the greatest!!

We love to take the time to learn about the culture when we got to Epcot. It really helps interaction with the cast members from that country. My DD had a Death Note shirt on that day, and she got compliments and acknowledgements from so many of the cast members, since it's a hugely popular manga. We also learned that Disney expressly forbids sales of anything with killing, demons, etc., so there was no merch there from her faves. Just a lot of Hello Kitty, Pokemon, etc. She was bummed!

We were on the DDP and had to pay out of pocket to add sushi to our meal but it was well worth it. I especially love the volcano roll.

now that i am home i was able to look back at our photos from our last trip and is was our two meals we had and i know they were covered in the DP

i forget that combo this was

and this was the
Panko Chicken

I don't know about Toyko Dining, BUT I have ordered a roll as my meal at Cali Grill and use the DDP. DH and I had the Deluxe DDP that included an app and a main dish, so we ordered 1 roll as app, 1 as the meal for us both, and got 4 rolls total and shared it. (Probably not the best use of 4 TScredits, but we had a few leftover since we aren't breakfast people and like to sleep in and get early lunches). The sushi at Cali Grill was awesome!!

There is also sushi at Kona Café, and that is Disney owned, so perhaps would be easier to use the dining plan?

There are sushi combo plates that are listed under entrees and those qualify under the DDP because they are entrees. If you are looking at the individual sushi items, I believe most of those are considered special small plates or appetizers so you would need to pay OOP for those. Does that make sense? The regular DP includes an an entree, dessert and a non-alcoholic beverage. So the sushi would be one of the combos listed under entree to clearly be covered under the DP. I don't see any harm in asking your server if eg 2 of the individual sushi small plates could be combined as an entree. I just wouldn't count on it. If someone has had any luck doing this, it would be great to know.
