~ SURVIVOR Samoa ~ Season 19 ~

is this where the tsunami hit today?
are they still filming there?

ok found out:
A tsunami caused by an offshore earthquake hit Samoa and killed an unknown number of people in the areas near where Survivor filmed its 19th and 20th seasons, but remaining crew members are safe.

Filming had already concluded on Survivor Samoa, which taped earlier this summer, and Survivor 20, which was filmed soon after 19 finished and was scheduled to wrap up before Sept. 20, according to a letter to Richard Hatch asking him to participate. Filming obviously ended before then, though, considering that Jeff Probst was at the Emmys Sept. 20, and some crew members arrived home that weekend. The few who are still there are “doing fine,” a CBS rep told Josef Adalian. And CBS posted on Facebook that “the cast and crew of Survivor has not been affected by the earthquake.”

The southwestern coast was the location for tribe beaches and challenges, and “the south coast of Upolu island suffered heavy damage and some deaths,” the manager of the Salani Surf Resort wrote on Twitter. He also said that the resort, which is located on the south side of Upolu very close to the resort that served as Ponderosa, “has been totally destroyed, but the guests and staff were evacuated just in time.”

Thanks, muffyn, for posting that info. I just read about it now on Yahoo News! :sad2:

LOL Russell is funny and is starting to grow on me a little bit. I'd like to see him stick around for a while just to see what kind of shenanigans he might pull. I thought it was hilarious when he dumped the water and burnt the socks.

That was NOT hilarious. That showed an evil uncaring person to sabotage their own team. Burning people socks thats wrong but dumping out peoples water that just plain evil. Yeah I know they can get more but its just the point that he set out to sabotage his own team and evily laughed about it. :confused3

I'm confused. IS this saying that the Survivor season AFTER Samoa is already done filming and that Richard Hatch had been asked to participate in that season?? That would make it another All-Star then huh?

Nooooo! Please tell me I don't have to watch him again. When is his 15 minutes going to be up? :sad2:

Concerning Russell (potential spoiler below):

1. I don't understand the thinking that the immunity idol Russell found in his own camp is for the other team. I do not recall any other season where a person had to go to the other tribe to look for an immunity idol. Like in Yau-Man's season, he had to figure out how to look for the idol in his own campsite without arousing suspicion.

2. On the blog Reality Blurred, Andy (the blogger who is one of three reporters that get to interview the survivors at Ponderosa Camp prior to the beginning of each season) reported yesterday that Russell's brother stated that Russell was on the Season 20 All-Stars. Andy stated that 'this usually means the person got pretty far in the game', although not necessarily to the jury.

Of course, Russell's brother may well be trying to stir things up. We will not know until All-Stars begins.

Richard Hatch was not on the second All-Stars. He was invited but, due to being in jail then parole (which he violated, seemingly) he could not participate. Indeed, one way that people knew about the upcoming All-Stars season was due to the court document Hatch filed asking the judge to release him early so he could participate in the all-star season. The judge declined the motion.

I was reading the updates on the earthquake, and kept thinking, "wow Samoa really sounds familiar. Then I realized this is where Survivor was taped this season. I thought an earthquake hit Samoa which caused a tsunami. It doesn't matter either way. Small reports are coming in, because lack of electricity and cell phone usuage. I saw a few pictures on the weather channel, and some are calling in when they are getting signals. How scary, once again.

Well that answers that...and may God have mercy on our souls.

HUH................did I read that right.............you thought it was HILARIOUS when Russell dumped out their water and burnt their socks. :furious:

Are YOU Russell??? How do you find that hilarious??? :confused3

Re Russell supposedly being on Survivor All-Stars (Season 20) - wasn't Jonny Fairplay on the last All-Stars? I think he was voted out very early on....

Oops, now that I think about it, didn't Jonny Fairplay ask to leave the game? Something about his girlfriend having a baby??? Personally, I thought it was just an excuse - I'll bet he figured leaving the game was more "honorable" than getting voted off, and he knew that the other all-stars knew how sneaky and conniving he was and they wouldn't put up with his stuff.

But if Russel went right from filming this season to filming season 20, then the other "all stars" have not had the opportunity to see him as the conniving low-life sleaze-bag he is and may fall under his spell too.

Exactly.

Only if another Samoa contestant is also on the All Star roster will they know be able to learn about Russell (assuming the fellow Samoan contestant 'finds out' about Russell during the course of the game).

I think Fairplay finished in 3rd place on the season he was on.

You're confusing his original season with his appearance on the All Stars show. He opted out early during All Stars, using his pregnant girlfriend as an excuse.

Sorry I was referring to his original season. I misread the first post.
