~ SURVIVOR Samoa ~ Season 19 ~

Sorry for the late chime in, but I had to wait to watch it until tonight!

I felt so bad for Mike when he was in that challenge. (BTW why was there a combined reward/immunity challenge?) I feel like that challenge was too harsh for the healthiest of fellows, but he has gotten knee replacements and heart problems! I did not think that was fair at all. But hey, it's Survivor and a good medical evac is good T.V.

I cannot say though that I am sad to see Betsy go. Now some of you may not agree with me because I have never and hope to never be in her situation, but if I were I don't think I would leave my husband who is in remission at home watching all of the children while I go play Survivor.

I couldn't believe Yasmin, not only did she come in and completely insult their tribe, but she had the nerve to tell Ben that he shouldn't push a girl?! Come on now please, it's a game, fair is fair, you aren't going to be treated any differently because your a girl.

Russell, oh Russell. I am actually warming up to him. I think he is a good edition to the show, he makes things interesting. Heck finding the immunity idol (even if it's of no use) is pretty clever. Plus he has the entire tribe in the palm of his hands, and they all listen to him even though he is sooo stupid. Have to give him credit on that one.

*Don't flame me* But I actually really like Ben. Not for the things he says but because he doesn't lie. Sure he said he "tripped" him but he also admitted to doing it on purpose, he makes his choices and stands behind them. Plus he stood up for his tribe, used the wrong words of course and all of the wrong tactics, but he stood up for them. That and he had the nerve to call Jeff's rules that of a sissy's. ;)

I am surprised they haven't shown any flirting, usually as soon as there is some connection between two of the survivors that's all they show...

Yeah, I think Ben would have been better going with the appraoch of, "You know what, it's a game, I was trying to win. Of course I grabbed you, you were on the opposing team, and I play to win!" That would have at least been honest. Seriously, did Yasmin think that the guys shouldn't touch her because she was a delicate flower?

I think they are playing the "Ben is an idiot" card for TV. I'm sure you could edit anyone to look like a moron, by taking the right clips in a 72-hour period.

I had wanted Russel gone first but now it has switched to Yasmin- what a tool she is! I would like to see her gone and then Russell- I can't stand seing him out there in those shorts with his fat belly hanging over and them sticking in the crack of his fat butt!

Was wondering, the clue to the immunity idol that Yasmin received, was it for her camp or the other? Because now that Russell has found the idol for his camp, does that mean it is good to use? If her clue was for her camp, then that means Russell's idol might not be in "play" yet since no one in his camp has received a clue. The reason I'm wondering is what if he brought out the idol before a clue was given for it. Would it still be good or would Jeff tell him it was no good because it was not in play yet. Wouldn't that be a hoot? :rotfl:

My understanding from watching Survivor Preview is that each tribe's HII is hidden at the other tribe's camp. So I'd guess Russell technically can't use it as it "belongs" to Galu. My question is whether they'll hide another one for Galu to find...

Hey denisem, can you provide a link? Is that on the official CBS Survivor website? This is the first I heard that each tribe's immunity idol is at the OTHER camp. This is kind of a neat twist. Perhaps in a future clue for the HII, the Survivors will find out about that.

In the meantime, wouldn't it be a hoot if, by some miracle, the Foa Foa tribe realizes what Russell's been up to and try to blindside him, but he finds out about it and in all his arrogance tries to use the HII at tribal council, only to find out that it's worthless to him and he's gone?!:lmao:

THAT would be SWEET!

Regarding Russell, I think he's getting way too much face time to be hanging around for long. In previous seasons it hasn't been unusual for the final few to be almost invisible on the early episodes.

I really liked Marisa AND Betsy.

Scripted or not, I find this show totally entertaining!

I've been searching and can't find an online version anywhere (what I watched was an hour-long preview on the TVGuide channel a week before Survivor began.)

If you search youtube for "Survivor Samoa TVguide Preview" it appears someone has broken it down into parts A, B, C, etc. so maybe the entire show is covered there.

Yeah, seeing Russell play a worthless idol would be as good as when that other obnoxious guy (Randy?) played the homemade idol and was sent home.
:lmao:

You know, if the immunity idols are tribe-specific, I take back what I said about the producers making it too easy to find. It would be a lot trickier for an outsider to locate and retrieve that idol undetected.

I would be cracking up if Russell produces it at tribal, only to find out it's useless to him.

That would seem to make since, as they gave Yazmin the clue to read while she was at the other tribe. And it mentioned a tree. :confused3

IMO its a little unusual to give one tribe member so much face time in the episodes. I don't ever remember 1 cast member receiving 80% of the face time in back to back episodes. Yes sometimes they give a cast member a lot of face time in the episode that they get sent packing in, which is understanable, but this has almost been the "Russell Goes on Survivor" show and not Survivor Samoa. Seems kind of weird to me. I mean this guy is not THAT interesting. I can see giving him his fare share, but is everyone else that boring to the editors? :confused3 Something seems to be up with this, wonder what it is?

I think the producers thought Russell was going to be a player the viewers "love to hate" but instead if this thread is any indication most of us just plain hate to see him. I hope he doesn't even make the jury.

I really hated him and it was annoying to watch him in episode 1, episode 2 I could deal with it a little better, just thought he was on there WAYYYYYY too much. I don't really care if he stays or goes, can't imagine him actually winning. I think his tactics will catch up with him, and he will eventually be caught in his lies. I mean the whole Katrina lie thing was too much, this is the type of guy that probably is constantly lying and those types of people are typically easy to farret out.

Do you have one of those friends/acquantinces, that is constantly exaggerating about things? It is so annoying and is obvious usually after about 5 minutes of talking to these types of people. Unless he is a much better player than what has been portrayed, I'm betting they eventually farret him out.

I would too..... :rotfl: :rotfl:

BUT then again, if Russell has watched SURVIVOR wouldn't he know that the HII he found at his own Tribe campsite would actually be for the OTHER Tribe IF that indeed is TRUE???? :confused3

I don't think they have done it this way before. Normally they get the clue on exile island to search for the idol at their camp - not receiving the clue at the other camp and finding the idol there. Should be interesting

I hope that the idol Russell has is only for the other tribe!!! That would be perfect.

He has gotten too much face time. I feel bad for the other members of his tribe.

In all these reality shows, it seems like the ones who get the most "face time" early on are the ones who leave early.... The ones around at the end get the "time" later. The shows would be "boring" if they focused on only a few people for the whole show. Just my hunch, but I think Russell will not make Jury.

I sure hope you're right, Kimberle!

Sorry for the late chime in. Busy week for me last week. Just watched the show on the DVR last night. This season has revealed a few things to me:

1. Human being are more closely related to sheep than I expected. The way the whole tribe follows Russel is just scary. Perfect example of how advertisements, campaigns, etc. influence our brains I guess.

2. When will people learn on Survivor that the first segment of the show (pre-merger) you want to weed out the caniving ones such as Russel. Ever season there is a person who steps up as a leader in the beginning who decides who will be voted off. That person, in ever season, has turned out to be a backstabber. Vote that person off first. It should be about teamwork. About working together. Not plotting against your teammates. Wow, Foa Foa is one of the dumbest group of individuals I have ever seen (besides maybe Jaison and Betsy, who happens to be gone now).

3. This goes back to (2), Russel does a great job of disguising his manipulative ways as being a way to "strengthen the team" for future challenges.

4. Russel is a smart player, but after the Katrina lie on the first episode, he can rot in he77 for all I care. My whole family had to swim out of Katrina (lost their house and pretty much everything) and that really hit home to me when he was talking about it two weeks ago. Then when he revealed it was a lie, I was infuriated.

5. Ben hates women. This was evident to me from Episode 1. His hate towards women is quite scary. He was very aggressive towards the first female eliminated two weeks ago. I am not going to call racist on him just yet, but he is on, if not over the line right now. He is definitely missing something "upstairs."

6. This season is excellent so far. The lies and deception make you hate the people who do it on Survivor, but make the season soooo interesting. Can't wait for tomorrow night...

That guy was at least 100lbs over weight. How could he possibly think he could compete in challenges, unless it was the food challenges. :lmao: AND some of the people they pick I'm wondering why did they get picked just because they offer NOTHING interesting at all. :confused3
.

No argument he was overweight, but not 100lbs. I'm 100 lbs overweight and I can tell you, he's not there :lmao: But, that was an extremely physical challenge. I'd equate it to something like wrestling (football is more short bursts of energy) and let me tell you, as a former high school wrestler, the amount of energy you expend in a 3 minute round is incredible and you really need to be in shape to handle it. There were some big boys nutting heads out there, so I'm actually surprised there was only the one victim of the challenge.

IMHO, Yasmin is everything he says she is. I wouldn't have cared if she were black, white, or purple, she is loud-mouthed, rude, and her grammer and English DO stink. She had no right to be in his face screaming at him about his conduct in a CHALLENGE in a GAME for a MILLION dollars that she signed up to participate in. Why in the world would she think that he would hold back and not treat her just like anyone else just because she's female?? And I tell you if I had heard her say "You're a DUDE" one more time I think if I were Ben I'd have smacked her.

You don't want someone to call you "ghetto trash", then for pity's sake don't ACT like ghetto trash.

Yasmin just won MY vote for "needs to be voted off soon" with her mouth and attitude.

When I was watching the whole thing, I kept thinking that she was just sent there to observe. What was she thinking being so confrontational? She blew any advantage her tribe could have obtained from her observations, since once she opened her mouth, the tribe was put in a totally different and defensive state of mind.

I'd love to hear what Jasmin has to say to her tribe about the other one. I hope that they show it.
