~ SURVIVOR Samoa ~ Season 19 ~

All of them looked so different, Natalie look better, Russ looked the same, he didn't change much, and Mick, oh I could't even recognized him.

I think we saw one Russel the edited version of the production, the one that gives ratings and the rest of the castaways saw and interacted with the same jerk, egomaniac, obnoxious, self center guy but on a totally different way, more personal. popcorn::

I don't dislike or like Natalie, I just knew that she had more chances because her votes were votes against Russ.

I definitely think we saw a well edited version of Russell. The producers can edit it any way they want to and they loved giving Russell the spotlight. I was beginning to think it was the Russell show.

Remember when Sugar was on? They gave her a great edit and made her look very strategic. But in the end, it turned out they edited it to make it look that way. Apparently she cried all of the time and was unpleasant to be around.

I'm sure the players got a taste of the real, unedited Russell and weren't impressed.

Natalie was the only one I felt looked extremely different. Of course, Russell didn't look different at all though. I also noticed Laura and Monica looked very different but that was mostly due to the pounds of make up they put on their faces. I can't even remember Mick too much to be honest, he just reminded me of a fatter version of his Survivor day 39 self.

Yes, Monica and Laura had loooots of make-up, Shamwow gained her weight back, and Natalie's face was so different, I guess you get used to see them all thin for so long. Mick was so different from the last TC to the reunion, his face changed a lot.

IMO Natalie was the luckiest person in the history of the show. She said what her game plan was but I don't think she had a game plan, she just said she did. She just hung around and won, never much did a thing. I do like her, just saying.

Jaison is a very bitter man. We saw that at the beginning and end of the show. I hope he gets the help he needs.

Yes. And if he was so disgusted by Russell's game play why did he stay aligned with Russell and why didn't he try to make a move on Russell especially when Brett won his final challenge.

Jaison had no strategy at all. He sat around complaining and wringing his hands and rode Russell's coat tails as much as Natalie did. And Natalie was actually better at most of the challenges. I'm amazed Jaison lasted as long as he did. He should be thankful for making it that far.

Except Sugar came off as like-able in the editing. Russell did not. They SHOWED the evil Russell side to us. They showed him finding idols and tribal councils where he blindsided others (with immunity for instance). They can't make that stuff up. We saw his strategy. I don't think the other tribe did though. That was part of the problem I think. They really did not know he was mastermind behind as much as he was. American knew and voted for him.

Your argument might work if we thought Russel was a sweetheart, but we don't.

Remember, they edited Natalie too. She was very like-able in the edit. But she did not do a lot, and could not even name a lot she did at final tribal.

We didn't see much of Russ interacting with the others at camp, we saw some of Natalie, we don't know if he did or not, maybe he did maybe not. He might spend his time searching for idols or thinking about his next move, talking to cameras instead of talking and socializing with the tribe, the jury, I think that is important too and is part of a 'winning strategic', if he only lectured people about how awesome he was, or how dumb they were, well, he shouldn't be surprised by the votes against him.

I finally got around to watching the finale on DVR last night.

At first, I was pretty shocked and thought that Russell should have won because he was the clear mastermind of the entire game. Nobody in past seasons has ever had such complete control over the outcome of almost every tribal council.

But the more I thought about it, the more I realized how Russell failed. Survivor is not just about controlling who gets voted out and getting yourself to the end. It's also a social game. You have to make the right connections with the jury members on a personal level, so they will vote for you. Russell failed at the social game. Even though he controlled the game, he failed at getting people to like him or respect him enough to vote for him in the end.

Whether or not Natalie had a plan from the beginning or was just lucky, she beat Russell at the social game and in the end, that is what gave her the victory. She played the game better when it really mattered and convinced the jury to vote for her. So she deserves the win.

I completely agree with this.

I disagree somewhat with this. I think most of the votes for Natalie were simply a vote against Russ not necessarily a vote for Natalie.
