Survivor - Guatemala

Spoke to some pals here in the anthropology dept here at work (where a few of them know Rafe) to get the skinny on the area where they're filming - the dept just got back from scouting dig locations there.

Looks like it's going to be utter hell from the sound of things.hot, humid, huge insects, nasty crocs, horrible water conditions, not much for food, and there's problems with rebels and drugs so it must be a security nightmare for Survivor production.
I wish they would show more of the encounters with the animals and reptiles on the show. I think it would make it more interesting.

You know I have to agree with you there
it would definalty show another side to the show

The only encounters I remember are the jellyfish sting and the shark encounter. It also showed the lions in Survivor Africa. I'm sure there have to be moments when they're scared out of their minds from these creatures. I know I sure as hell would be if I were sleeping outside with spiders, snakes, creatures, bugs, etc. I think it would add a little more of a realistic view of what they're going through.

Hey kiddos! Just found this thread as a link from the Big Brother board so I thought I'd subscribe and check in. Can't wait for tonight. One of my friends from work has a neighbor who will be on the show. I can't remember his name, but she said he is very feminine so I guess I'll have to try to pick him out!

I cant believe the new season is finally here - yeah!!!

Although not looking forward to all the shows I have to start taping again with the new fall season of shows here...

 YEAH!!! Big Brother may be ending but Survivor is starting back up :)

We stopped in Guatamela on a cruise, and toured Tikal, where the biggest Mayan ruins are. It was really hot, with mucho humidity. It was great, but I was glad it was only one day. I don't think I could take 39 days of it. Plus we were there in spring, and I think Survivor filmed there this summer. It was probably a LOT hotter, and even more humid.

On the TV Guide channel's special, the guy that designs the challenges said that he couldn't do much with water challenges, because someone could get eaten. Yikes! They showed one challenge that involved a boat, but it was a big, heavy outrigger canoe. There was no chance of capsizing, and capsizing is always fun.

So to summarize... Extreme heat, 100% humidity, no chance to bathe. That will be a smelly group by the end!

 Hello fellow reality TV junkies. I too am a huge Survivor fan. I have watch since the first season. I have the Tivo all set! The to do list on the Tivo is quite full right now with all the shows coming back on this week and next. With no new episodes to watch all summer I even resorted to watching the Food and Travel networks.
Can't wait until tonight! :cool1:

The local media was saying that Bush's speech tonight was purposely scheduled not to interfere with the premiere of Survivor. I don't know if that's true or not but I'm glad it's not pre-empted.

I can't believe it's on tonight. It seems so early. But, I can't wait. I love how we're all relishing the fact that these people are going to be living in complete misery. :rotfl:

Beth76, you're right--it sure makes being pregnant and potty training seem like a walk in the park!

I was wondering about that too. Is Survivor on from 8-9 or 8-10? How is the speech not going to pre-empt it? They always do them at 8:00.

Hey!
Very excited to watch tonight!!
A few pages back you were talking about the football player. I saw Jeff on Regis and Kelly yesterday, and he said that the football player didn't tell anyone he was a football player. He told them all a different last name, made up a new job and everything so they wouldn't target him. (we'll see if it worked!)

I was hoping for Rob and Amber as the returning guests-I love them!!
