Given that it will require to people to play smarter instead of meaner, I can't imagine that it would be more boring. It will be very interesting to see folks actually think, apply intelligent strategy, and true leadership.

As with everything related to Survivor, and with all good reality game shows, it isn't clear what twists will be introduced into future seasons. Who knows? Perhaps the popular vote will be the only vote, and the jury will have no vote next time.

I don't think they will repeat the extra million. I actually believe the producers saw one contestant become so hugely popular with the viewers that having Rupert not win again was going to hurt them. Or at least disenchant a lot of their audience, perhaps costing them viewers. Let's face it, they only gave the million because it was to their benefit to do so.


But if you were a contestant wouldn't you have the possibility of a bonus million in the back of your mind? I think a lot of players might be thinking they might be the next Rupert if they play their cards right. I am hoping it will effect the game. Just because it would be interesting.

That's exactly what I was trying to say. Rupert won the popularity contest. He did not outplay anyone for that, he just got fans to feel sorry for him. If another winner was chosen based on the way the survivors played the game instead of the way they decided to do it, it would not have been Rupert. So how can you say he outplayed anyone, especially Rob?

I would like to see America as the 7th jury member. Have a 6 member jury with America possibly casting the tie breaking vote. That would be interesting.

Of course, if it's a blowout, America's vote would be anticlimactic.

Does anyone still have a taped copy of the Sunday night TC? I'm just curious as to exactly what Jeff said when he announced that another All Star Survivor would be winning a million dollars and that America would make the decision. Did he tell us to choose the most worthy player? The one that played the best game? Or who do you think should win the money? With disagreements about whether Rupert deserved to win over BR, I'm just curious.

I can't tell you for Gospel what Jeff Probst said, but in watching the Saturday Early Show (they rerun the Friday interview with the castoff) the announcer asked Rupert how it felt to be the most popular survivor and basically was saying that it was a popularity contest.

So it really doesn't matter if it was a popularity contest or not. Rupert won because most of the people that voted wanted him to win, not because he played a better game. That's what I thought. Thank you for checking for me.

As mentioned before - the 2nd million was reward for most popular "all star player"... After having America vote for each of the categories, sexiest man, woman, best fight, etc. The reward was for most popular player.

I bet if they have another "all stars" survivor that they would almost "have" to offer up a second million again. Can you imagine the disgruntled all-star players if they "discontinued" the award?

What about those players who were called and declined - their odds were 2 in 18 that they could win a million - alot better than any lottery I've ever seen. Wonder if they are kicking themselves for declining the invitation?!

When voting, the category was not listed as "Most Popular Survivor". It was clearly labeled "Who do you want to win the million dollars?"

You can place whatever label you like on the category. He won the million and played a fair game. Makes me feel good to know that nice guys do sometimes finish first.

What no else has mentioned about BR NOT winning the 1st million is in that every tribal council once he jury starts is that you have to be careful who you mvote out next, because they will be the ones decideing if you win the million or not.
SO, BR may have played a great game at the risk of making the jury hate him. He only played 3/4 's of it right.
I am one who voted for Rupert.
I think he was fair and honest and if Jenna had gone for the marbles. Rupert might have had a better chance.

The popularity part "of the game" can only extend to those in the game at the time. Once you've taken 72 hours chunks and edited the heck out of it for story arcs and drama, the 45 minutes left has nothing whatsoever to do with what really went on out there. Americans sitting at home on their couches like to think they have some sense of the true game, but they don't.

This will be the only time a second million is dished out, unless another fan favorite as popular as Rupert comes along and loses twice. That second million was made for Rupert, plain and simple.

Without the villians, and with punishments for "bad" behavior, Survivor would be off the air after one season. Adversity is the cornerstone of drama, and there is nothing more adverse than the human animal. Watching nice people starve, survive near floods, etc. doesn't do it.

I also think that DemonLlama said it very well.

We as TV viewers only see the smallest bit of the time the survivors are there. So much of it is editing that if we were allowed to vote, technically Mark Burnett could really skew the vote simply by his editing choices. If there was a player he liked, he could choose to only show him/her at their best and not show some of their worst moments. Likewise, if there was a player he did not like, he could only show his bad sides. So many players have said that there is so much we didn't see that played into their final voting. I don't think we need more voting fiascos like American Idol. Let them play the game and vote in the heat of the game and then let us watch and be "armchair coaches". And, without some villians and folks playing "out of the box" the game would get boring pretty fast.
