Survivor 48--Who's Watching?

Who else is watching? It just started tonight. I was just fine with who went home--I found her very annoying. And what was with all the matchy-matchy resort wear? Did she think this was a fashion photo-shoot?

That said, I don't see her nemesis getting too far in the game--too intense, not good at the social game. But it's early, we'll see what happens.

I watched- the tribe the lost is my least favorite, so didn’t care much who was voted off. I don’t like the intensity of that player (don’t have their names straight yet) - the aggressive one- and do not think it bodes well for her. We’ll see!

Most exciting thing about last night IMO was being able to vote on elements of Season 50. I would love to see a live final tribal again. I hope we have the ability to vote for 39 days versus 29 days, a different location, maybe even players!

Funny, I was talking with my son while we were watching, and I mentioned the different locations. I think they'll stick with Fiji, though--they have permanent structures in place. But the different places were very interesting.

I also miss the 39 days. Of course, I missed the part where we can vote on stuff--we were fast-forwarding at times. I DID catch the "Yellowjackets "crossover" promo--very well done! Same son and I watch "Yellowjackets" together, too.

We've watched Survivor from the very first season. I don't like the 90 minute formate because they spend too much time talking rather than competing in challenges. But I do like the 29 days.

The very first challenge had the survivors crawling through mud, getting their brand new outfits filthy. Then, later on, you see some of them in the same outfits again, except that look very clean. Did they bring two sets of clothes?

I was okay with who went home, but I also wouldn't have minded if the other player whose name was written down had left instead. Both players annoyed me.

I'm getting good vibes from Joe the Fire Chief, especially with how he plans to look out for Eva. It was also kind of Kyle to help Kevin after the container issue.

David from the Civa tribe has a very high opinion of himself, so I'm curious to see how he will mesh with the tribe after a few days. I hope the self-promotion is more self-talk than telling the tribe how fabulous he is.

By the way, I had to look up their names.

Stephanie (the one voted off) definitely had outfits planned. She had the sun hat, the beach cover-up, and then the sweater, all matching. I found it annoying. I know they're supposed to dress in tribe colors--nothing wrong with that. But, she really looked like she was vacationing in Cabo or something.

I have a son who's autistic, and I could see how it would be a detriment to the social aspects of Survivor. I hope Eva does well. And I love how Joe is such a stand-up guy--he'll look out for her, for sure...until the tribe swap or something else messes with things.

It's too early for me to be annoyed by any one player. When David said he was a stunt double, I commented to my husband that he looks like he could be one for Chris Evans' Captain America. After we watched, I then read this:

I caught the "vote" last night, accidentally. To be honest, can't believe it is still on. I was working at a CBS affiliate when it first went on the air in 2000 and most of us felt it would never make it past one season. Boy were we wrong. We always were hoping Jeff Probst would get voted "off the island".
Sort of like "America's Funniest Home Videos", known now just as AFV. I was working at the same station, then an ABC affiliate when it went on the air. Although I couldn't tell you who the current host is.

It was a good son junior high and I TV time...we like the emphasis on the animals and habitat...boy was Africa and Australia an experiment..by accident I saw first episode... I usually tune in halfway

I haven’t watched Yellowjackets, so that part was lost on me.

I believe you can vote all week for this week’s topics. Type in Survivor 50 - in the hands of fans voting. This week we vote on tribal colors, rice/no rice, firemaking, and final tribal location.

I would love to see season 50 take place somewhere exotic. I heard Jeff’s reasons for the shorter season and staying in Fiji. But we rewatch old seasons throughout the year and miss the variety in animal/insect shots and the extra challenge that may present for players.

I am watching. Always glad to get past the first 2-3 episodes. I get more invested then.

Longer format for season 50 would be nice. I fast forward over all competitions and only watch to see who wins. They are repetitive after 47 seasons. I wish they inserted some that are more thought-provoking, or interesting to the viewer. I lightly watch conversations until later in the season. I find that watching the tribal at the end gives me enough information this early. I not a big fan of some of the twists and turns along the way, but I kind of liked a second chance for when a potentially weak physical player could enter again.

Joe is a standup guy. Really like him.

He definitely is and I hope he lasts. It's been a long time since they've had someone with his type of character on the show. Instantly rooting for him.

Was not happy to see Steph voted off. I tend to like the more colorful, flaky type personalities as they give the show some flavor. Wish they had voted Sai off instead. If she keeps playing this hard she'll be voted off soon enough.

I have appreciated quite a lot having the longer episodes especially with the reduced days out there and I personally wish they would have more days out there.

IMO the thing is with the longer day format the challenges actually had more of meaning to the gameplay since you were out there longer with more mental and physical fatigue. You might have started with more food and had longer breaks in between the challenges or rewards more but your whole body was exposed for a longer time. I know Jeff has talked about how the mental and physical fatigue is worse with the shorter timeframe, something they seem to use as more of a way to say Survivor is harder now, and I don't disagree on a level but I still think the players overall were more affected on the longer timeframe, you've got more days to say "I just gotta make it to X day" kind of thinking whereas the shorter length of time out there it's less days you have to hold on out there.

With shorter days the social game becomes more important and you need an ability to adapt fast to your surroundings. You don't have time to let relationships or alliances or even "get to know you" grow over too long of a time period The first season they switched to 90mins after having reduced days first I didn't necessarily think about it from that perspective but IMO that's why there's a focus on the players because people did actually want to see more of that in the episodes and there's a shift from challenges being so important to the overall gameplay.

I wish there was a bit of a swing more towards the challenges and a variety of them as that's an enjoyable part of the episode to me so I feel you there but part of the evolution of Survivor is also that people use their social awareness into the game which then has made that social component more important.

The first episode (second can as well) of the season is longer and has been for at least the past several seasons (sometimes a middle episode might be longer too). It clocks at about 1 hour 24 to 1 hour 25 mins without commercials (2 hour timeslot including commercials).

Normal episodes run about 1 hour 4 mins or so without commercials (90 mins timeslot including commercials).

We watch it now on Paramount+ since it saves me from having to fast forward through the recording and we used to only have ad-supported Paramount+ but now have no commercial tier.
