I went to see the Bourne Supremacy today, found it kind of boring (choppy editing and too much action), and got to thinking about surround sound. I know it is popular and many people love it, but I just don't get it.
I don't want to hear bullets flying at me from my left, dogs barking on my right, helicopters flying behind me, etc. It distracts me, annoys me, and sometimes even scares me. I don't even like to have the stereo speakers hooked up to our TV. Stereo sound is great, but I prefer the sound to come from the general direction of the TV or the front 1/4th of the movie theater - not from my direct left, direct right, or behind me.
Do you like it or not like it? I have a suspicion that men are more passionately into surround sound than women, although most women might like surround sound, too. I'm just curious.
