I surprised my wife and son tonight with the Wishes Dessert Buffet.
I'd tried all last week to book over the phone, I even tried calling this morning to get in, then finally this afternoon I was able to sneak away (FastPass run) and had no problem booking in person.
Nearly ran into a snag when DW decided she wanted to get a spot for SpectroMagic 45 minutes before hand. I just went along and we found a spot.
About 20 minutes before the parade (and the buffet opening) I told her I was tired of standing, and told her I heard about a secret place where you could watch the parade and fireworks from and to trust me. Reluctantly she did.
On the walk over she had the nerve to ask where I had heard about this secret place from. I told her the DISboards, duh. I even told her it was Kevin and John's favorite fireworks spot.
When we got there and the area was blocked off for the Dessert Buffet, she wasn't very happy. We left a perfectly good spot for this??
I let her be mad for a minute or two before breaking the news.
Our table was behind a pole, but of course everyone stands at the rail for the parade and fireworks. The parade was hard to see, but it was an awesome fireworks spot.
While waiting for the fireworks to start, my 5-year old son noticed the cable running from the castle over to Tomorrowland. At first I told him that it was where Minnie hung up her laundry, then suggested it was used to get power to the castle. That satisfied him....until he could clearly see Tink flying across the wire during the show. Thinking quickly, I suggested that it was the wire that powers all the lights on her. She doesn't need the wire to fly, just to light up her wings. DW was very impressed and wanted to know where I had pulled that out of (and offered a graphic suggestion).
Back to the buffet...totally worth it! Not for the desserts, though they were nice, but for the convenience and the awesome view.
