Surprise vow renewal at a Disney Restaurant?

I read on thread somewhere here, that you can surprise your spouse by telling a cm at a restaurant you want to renew your vows. Has anyone heard of this? I read it in the last 2-3 weeks. My husband and I are taking the family to WDW to celebrate our 22nd anniversary (and my son's 21 st birthday) and I want to do something surprising, special, memorable. On a shoestring budget :-) It will be my DH, DS (20), his DGF (19), my DD (19), my DS, my DBIL, and my DN (5)--a grand gathering, and we are so excited.
Does anyone know where this is? Or have any similiar suggestions?

The Garden Grill at Epcot used to offer the "Re-hitchin" ceremony, but sadly..it's gone by the wayside.

We renewed our vows for our 20th anniversary at Disney World. We had all of our family there as well. We had been married at 4:00 so we all went to the Off Kilter stage (empty at the time) and did it there in the seating area. Off Kilter is our favorite entertainment at Disney World so that's why we wanted it there. My brother-in-law read our original vows, my sister was again my matron of honor and our son was the best man. After the short ceremony (very casual, obviously), we all went to LeCellier for dinner. After the next Off Kilter show, of course. It was very special because a friend of ours asked the band to do some songs for us. And they ended up doing a complete set of our requests (we did not know they were going to do that - we expected a regular show).

That was how we renewed our vows at Disney World without spending a dime (except for the dinner after).

How did you arrange that? Or did you just get up on stage and go for it?

I thought this was in a restaurant at EPCOT...maybe Coral Reef?:fish:

I'm going to move this one over to the Disney Restaurants & Dining board.. the experts there might be able to help you out better.

I've heard the Whispering Canyon used to have a re-hitching ceremony but they no longer do it.

I wish they would, we'll be going there for the first time and I'd love to do it!

Hopefully someone will know of another restaurant that does it!

:lovestruc

That would have been great Kalaim! I thought it was at EPCOT...but then I am the one that doesn't remember :-)
I would really like to do this, so here is hoping...:lovestruc

I don't think any of the restaurants do it anymore, sadly. You could do your own make shift one, like the previous poster did, and just involve your family in parts of it and just stake a spot in the park somewhere. Or you could pay $$$ for Disney to host one for you with all the bells and whistles =)

It WAS at Epcot, at the Garden Grill restaurant. They used to have an Ice Cream Social in the afternoons, and would do a quick little "Re-hitchin' Ceremony'" with the characters. They no longer do the re-hitchin because they no longer do the Ice Cream Social. It's been gone for years.

I have not heard of any current vow-renewal at any Disney restaurant, Epcot or otherwise.

Of course, I'm sure you could arrange a formal renewal of vows through Disney Weddings, but it will be quite pricey.

the one they had at the Garden Grille was mor jokey than an actual renewal... we did it a few years ago before they stopped

they stood us up and said something like ... 10 years ago ___ and ___ got hitched now we are all here to rehitch them... do you still? (yep) do you still? (yep) ok now kiss while we count to 100... then they counted to 10 then to 100 by 10's then we got a certificate

Actually, I thought that you could get in trouble if they catch you trying to do that in the parks now. I think since DFTW they really frown on the idea of "VR"s without actually paying the mouse. You could always do it on your hotel balcony or something, ppl used to ask that on the wedding board all the time- how to get away with it...

But with DFTW there are all kinds of regulations now

Yep, I've heard that several times.

The one I read about was more tongue-in-cheek like one of the above posters mentioned they did at Garden Grill. They said one spouse could tell the server in private and then it would be a surprise, impromptu 'little' ceremony. I will keep looking, but perhaps this poster was talking about a past visit.

Thank you all for your suggestions/replies

My husband and I were married at WDW in Feb. We originally planned a "stealth" wedding at Sunset Point. Late lunch and wandering down to the Point afterwards with about 6 friends, say a few words, sign some papers and done.

Well, our friends and family swelled the guest list to about 25 so the "stealth" aspect was out.

We ended up booking a two bedroom suite at OKW for 3 nights. Brought in our own cake and reception food. Held the ceremony in the "Great Room" and it was such fun!

If housekeeping noticed the decorating and mickey glitter confetti everywhere, as well as the box labeled "Wedding Cake Set" they did not rat us out, lol. (We cleaned up the decorations and glitter ourselves btw)

Disney has gotten extremely protective of their wedding ceremonies. We could not even find a Disney wedding cake topper, and we live locally.

I think a vowel renewal could be very well done in a resort room with no problem - and I love the idea of the empty stage at Off Kilter - love them too.

Good luck with whatever you come up with :thumbsup2
