Surprise visitor from California

We grabbed take-out from Hardee's on the way home one evening. About 1/2 way through the meal, I pulled out a french fry that had a fly cooked onto it. We have never been able to eat at Hardee's again. My kids now refer to them as serving French Flies.

My sister found a dead grasshopper in her salad at a restaurant once. They tried to tell her it was a piece of lettuce. not so much.

When I was a child, my grandmother told me that she only cooked with white raisins because they were sweeter than black ones. I believed her for years and am still convinced white raisins ARE sweeter.

My mother told me that was nonsense and the reason why my grandmother cooked with white raisins was to make sure none of them "walked away."

I am glad I had lunch BEFORE reading this thread.

I once got a salad at Arbys & there was a dead fly in it. Of course, I was about 1/2 way through the salad before I saw it. YUCK!!!! I still can't go to any Arbys.

I am still shocked our arbys in town (where I got the salad) is still in business. I hear horror stories all the time about how dirty it is, the bad food, etc.

Even working in the restaurant business, I've never seen anything gross happen at our store. Now I will say, the produce we used was not what I would choose to use at home. Because we would use a case load, there's be some bruised up or moldy and we just chopped off the bad part and used the rest. Doing dishes was always the grossest.

Yes, but I'll definitely be a lot more vigilant about picking over my stuff and probably re-washing those bagged salads.

You should always wash/rinse produce, even the pre-washed salad mixes.

When I was a child -- about 30 years ago I was eating a Mr. Goodbar, you know chocolate with peanuts throughout it. Well, half way through the bar I looked at the candy wrapper and it was covered with little transparent bugs. Yuck, yuck, yuck!!!!!

I guess the peanuts had eggs in them when the candy was made? and then the bugs hatched?

That had to be the grossest thing that ever happened to me!
