Day 7: MK afternoon:

After lunch we had a very busy afternoon of rides. We did the following rides before our 5pm ADR at 1900 Park Fair:

We also played the A Pirate's Adventure: Treasures of the Seven Seas. This is a cute game on the lines of Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom It was a cute game and a good way to kill 15minutes, if you are waiting for a FP return time. I think there are 7 different adventures you can choose (each one taking about15minutes to complete) and they all require you to walk around Adventureland to complete some east tasks.

*Also enjoyed a Mid afternoon snack: DOLE WHIP, well I had a Dole Whip, another one of my top 5 must do foods. If you have never had a Dole Whip, then you have yet to start living!! The kids enjoyed a couple Churros and my wife a diet soda.

Day 7: Dinner at 1900 Park Fair and Downtown Disney:
We headed out of the park and to the GF around 4pm. We wanted to have some time before our 5pm ADR to check out the decorations there. The GF is one of the more beautiful resorts to visit during the holiday season. Not only do they have a really nice tree, but also the full sized gingerbread house is a holiday must see. Now we do the 1900 Park Fair dinner every year for a few reasons: #1 it gives us a reason to visit the GF and check out the Decorations #2 We love the characters here, the step mom and step sisters are our favorite face characters to interact with. #3 the food is good, but the GF has another one of my top 5 must do foods in Disney; Chilled Strawberry Soup. I honestly start my meal and end my meal with this soup…LOVE IT!!! The dinner here was good as always. The waiter was just ok, again either we kept getting servers that could not keep up with the workload or they were being spread to thin to properly do their job. He was very friendly and accommodating, but just was never around when you needed him.Note: Something I forgot to mention, our son has bad nut allergies. So even though we feel that we have a good grasp on it, we do make a note at any dinner ressie we have. Disney goes above and beyond to make sure that our son has a wonderful and safe meal. The will always bring out a chef to go over the allergy and to point out the food options that he can have. They have even gone out of their way to make him his own special dessert so that he felt special and not punished for his allergies.

After dinner we headed off to Downtown Disney for some shopping. In case you do not know by now, they are re doing Downtown Disney and building some much needed parking garages. However at the moment, parking is real hard to come by. We had to play the “Stalk the people to their car” game to get a parking spot. If you drive, be prepared to hunt for a parking spot.

We will usually spend about 2 hours at Downtown Disney to do a little shopping for Family, coworkers and teachers. Plus we have a “1” gift rule for the kids. Each trip they can pick out 1 gift, like a toy of jewelry. Something they can take home with them. This is always a fun process of going from store to store and back to stores to find just the right gift. My DS ended up getting this Indiana Jones Play set. Picture Below:

My DD on the other hand could not find anything that she really wanted. My wife and I think she was trying to be mature and not spend any more money on something, so we ended up getting her something from the resort gift shop the following night.

After downtown Disney we all went back to the resort and I took the kids down to Yehah Bob for about an hour, then it was off to bed for our second day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Day 8:



Wow, Our last Full day at the park and on this night when we rest our heads on the pillows, it will be our last night falling asleep under the “Disney” stars. So just like the half way day this brings a little sadness into the day and another reminder to make the most out of it.

Today we are heading back to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for our second day of touring. On this day we planned on hitting up our favorites one last time and filling in on some of the shows that we missed on our first day here. Now you would have thought after our short(er) day yesterday and getting to bed earlier, that everyone would be well rested and full of energy. Unfortunately that was not exactly the case, there was a little bit of “cranky pants” in the family today. Today was probably the day of the worst meltdowns of any day during the trip, with the wife and I even getting in on the act. Nothing to major, but you could tell that it was getting close to the end of a very long and eventful trip. But enough of that, let’s get on with the day and all the fun.



We started out the day at our usual, 6:45am wakeup call and headed out to the parks with no issues. Now today was another low plans day with no real lunch or dinner plans. We had FP+ for TS, TOT as a family and RR for my DD and I and TOT for my DS and Wife. We also planned on doing TS at park open to be able to hit that up twice. Of course since we are trying to get to TS ASAP, today would be another day the MB did not work for me and I had to wait for an “Ipad” to come over and let me in the park. (Maybe this was the TIKI GODS way of getting back at my family for all the double dipping we were doing with using the KTTW cards along with our FP+) Like the other times, it did not take too long to get everything corrected and off to TS.

Even with the delay at the turnstiles we ended up getting on in about 15minutes and then headed over to Sunset Blvd. for some thrills. As soon as we got over there we ended up using our KTTW cards for both RR and TOT. (4 FP for RR and 4 for TOT) The return times were return times for 10-11am still so we ended up doing TOT twice in a row using the stand by line. Then we split up and my DD and I rode RR twice and my DS and Wife rode TOT 2 more times. We did all of this by 10:45am and decided to stay in the area and have lunch at the stands there outside TOT and RR. This is where my wife and I got into, because I “stupidly” (she might read this, so I need to take blame for it!) made a big deal about her buying adult meals for our DD and wasting the money. She was having no part in me blowing up about it.

Like I said on Day #4, we really like this area for lunch at the park because of the separate stand that gives families a bigger selection to choose from, so that everyone can find something that they like. (If all else fails, there is also the Ice Cream stand right there to skip lunch altogether.) For families with picky kids (or in our case, one really picky teen) these kind of spots with a lot of choice are great options to make everyone happy.

Now during the morning and getting the show times lists, we decided to move some things around so that we could do some shows after lunch and also decided to take another break and leave the park for the afternoon. So while we waited in lines, I was able to use my phone and move our afternoon FP + for RR and TOT to later times in the early evening hours. I was able to find times later and the day and all looked good or so I thought. However a little later when I checked my phone, it showed that all of our FP+ was gone!! Of course this did cause some panic and ended up going to find some IPAd guys and was told that they were having some issues with communications and was able to show me that the FP+ were all still there and all would be good. I was less then confident, so I took a screen shot of his info to use in case I needed it later.

After lunch we split up again and my DD and wife headed over to The American Idol Show, while my DS and I headed over to Indiana Jones for some Man time. The indy show was good as always, but did also notice again some technical issues as they altered the show and had some stunts cut out. I can safely say at this point that complaints about maintenance issues have not been exaggerated but people. We have always run into a ride closure or technical issue, here or there in the past, but it really stood out to us in this trip. Not enough to ruin the trip or anything but enough that Disney really does need to start taking a closer look at what they are doing here and get it fixed before it gets out of hand.

We then had a little time to kill after the shows and before our TSM fp+ and stopped over at the Magic of Animation area Here we ended up getting a nice family pic of Mickey and decided not to wait in the long line to do the animation class. Instead, we looked thru the art shop at all of the wonderful art that I will never be able to afford. (Good to dream though!) We then headed over for one last spin on TSM and then hit up the Cpt. Jack Sparrow Attraction. I found this to be a cute little attraction, but nothing I would spend any time waiting in a line for. We then headed out of the park and back to the resort for some swimming and dinner.

At the resort, we went for our last dip in the pool and then enjoyed another nice and quiet meal at the resort Food Court. My wife ended up doing the Create Your Own Salad and I tried one of their burgers, while the kids got ckn. tenders and mac n cheese. All of the food was good and fresh. ( I still say that AOAs food court had the best burger.) Again we were at the food court around 4pm and we had the entire place to ourselves. Again, we are now 3 for 3 on this trip of having empty dining areas when eating before 5pm.

We headed back over to the park around 6pm and enjoyed the following attractions:

It was close to 8pm at this point and decided to make our way over to visit the light one last time. This is when my wife put it out there that she could really go for a Soft Pretzel. First I have to say, coming from PA here, Disney really needs to invest in more Pretzel stands. There are very few of them in the parks and you always have to hunt them down. Now, I know that there is always one outside of the Great Movie ride” and since it was on the way to the lights, we headed over there and as we stood in line (which there always seems to be a line at these stands, again Disney, more pretzels!!) I noticed that there did’nt seem to be a lot of pretzels hanging in the warmer and of course the person right in front of us took the last two pretzels. (Tiki God’s again, I know!)So with a sad wife, we ended up leaving and headed over to Osborne lights. At this time I knew that there was another Pretzel place on street of America but didn’t get my wife’s hopes up, just in case they were out there as well.



The Osbourne light are always crowded, but this is the first time I have seen them make it a one way street and force everyone to enter it from the back of Muppets and make your way around to the main street. Very crowded!!! We ended up making our way over to the very stocked Pretzel stand and I became the hero of the day in wife’s eyes. This is also a very good spot to tape the Light show. From this spot you can see straight down both sides of the main street and also able to tape the huge curtain. Very crowed but a good spot to hit most of the lights and only having to turn a little to catch them all. On the first night we were here for the lights we did all the searches for the hidden mickey and blackcat, tonight we just sat and enjoyed the show.

After enjoying the lights, we headed back to the resort. The kids were tired and being our last night I wanted to take full advantage of all the time we had left, so I suggested that just my wife and I go down and have a drink with Yeeha-Bob. Reminder, up until this point, my wife has never seen Bob and we have never left the kids alone at Disney. But I figured that the kids would just go to sleep (by the time we got to the room my DS was already asleep) at the room and we would still be close enough if something came up. So after a lot of kicking and screaming, my wife finally gave in and we headed off for a night cap. We only spent an hour down there, but it was a very enjoyable hour. My wife got to realize what she was missing by not coming with us to see Bob. I got to enjoy a nice beverage with the company of my lovely wife, a great ending to an already great day.

Day 9: MK and our last day at the World



The day started out at 6:30 with the plan to finish up packing and get to MK at rope drop. We were able to get a good jump on packing the day before, but no matter how much you prepare and plan, that final day of packing things up is always a highly stressful charged time for our family. My wife checking and rechecking to make sure everything is packed and its correct spot and I trying to get everything done as quick as possible to make up for the lost time my wife is adding by organizing the dirty clothes into neat piles. Since I did online check in and had a credit card on file, we did not have to waste time going to lobby to check out. We simply got a statement that had all of our charges on it. (Which I made a point to not read it until we got home!!!) So an 1 1./2 later the car was packed and we said good bye to our home away from home and headed to MK.

We arrived at MK, took the monorail to the park and the rope drop show started just as we passed the turnstiles. (We made it!!!) Being that this was our last day in the park and the fact that we already spent 2 other days at MK already, today was going to be a relaxing day. The only real plans we had were FP+ for all 3 of the Mountains and had a 5pm ADR at Chef Mickey’s for our last supper.

I am sure you can guess by now, where we headed after RD…..Yep, we headed straight for SM and got in 4 quick rides to start the day off. We then spent the next 7 hours touring the park hitting rides at random. Also, since this was the last day at Dinsey, we decided to skip lunch and just have whatever snacks we each wanted instead of sitting down and eating. So the kids split a sticky bun and had churros and more churros. I had yet another LeFou’s Brew and a Dole whip float and my wife enjoyed a ice cream and her favorite snack, a diet coke.



So today was Friday Dec 6th , it is also one of the days that they do the taping for the Xmas Parade that they show on Xmas morning. (Which is a family tradition to watch on TV, every year on Xmas day) Because of the taping, the park can get a little crowded this day and getting around main street and the hub can be very difficult. Now, every year we come here during this week, we always end up leaving this day and we always like to go out leaving the world from the MK. However, I would usually tell people to stay away from MK on parade taping days, it does add to the crowd and congestion of the park. Wait times are never horrible, but all those extra people in the park, still feels crowded. So we plan to stay off Main Street and use the FP system to its fullest to get on as many rides as possible. We were able to knock out the following rides before our dinner ADR:

Our Last Ride:

Now, on this trip, we never made it on Dumbo or Barnstormer, every time we finally made it over to that area, it was so crowded and neither of my kids had any interest in going on them. But besides that, we really did everything the park that we wanted to. We probably spent more time on SM and Big thunder then we needed too, but that was what the family wanted to do. In all, we rode Space Mountain a total of 22 times during this trip. It was the last ride we went on before leaving the park.

Thank you. As you can see we really enjoyed being able to take and get all of the Attraction Pictures. Trying to come up with the different poses was an fun added bonus to enjoying the rides.

Chef Mickey's:


It was now 4pm and we headed over to the Contemporary Resort to walk around and get to our ADR at Chef Mickey’s. Just like ending our vacation at MK, we usually will enjoy our last supper at Chef Mickey’s. It is just another one of our family traditions, which I hope, will be here for years to come. The food is usually good (not great) but it also a way to say goodbye to the Fab 5 on our way out. Since we had a 5pm Ressie, we were one of the first in the restaurant, so we were able to get our food pretty quick and see all of the characters. We even had most of them come around twice and even had a couple “Different” Donald and Mickey’s come to our table and autographed our book twice.

Side Note: We don’t do a lot of autographs now that my daughter is older but I still do get them an autograph book each year so that we can look back on it and see who we saw during the trips. I also always get my autograph book on line thru EBAY, here I can usually get a book (and sometimes matching pen and a canvas holder bag) for around $6.00. You can also get them personalized with images and your children’s name on them. Speaking of personalizing, I don’t know if anyone has noticed that both of our kids have these personalized Disney World Nametags. They look like the same ones that the CM’s wear throughout Disney world. (I also got them made up and personalized thru EBAY years ago) These have turned out to be the best thing to not only get CM’s to start conversations with our kids, but they also add that little extra something, every time someone would say “Hi Lexi” or “Hi Connor” I have always loved those little person touches you can add to a Disney Vacation that help make it one of those vacations that you will remember forever.



Back to Chef Mickey’s and the end of our time at Disney World Vacation. The one thing I would add about Chef Mickey’s, like I said the food is usually good here, not great, they always have a good selection. I have to say that this year was probably the best I have seen it. They have really added some higher quality items and everything tasted great.

The time was now 7pm and I could see Disney World in my Rearview mirror as we started our 1044mile drive back to PA, our Disney Vacation Was now over.

The Long and Sad Drive Home:



I will not bore you with all of the details of the long and sad drive home, but to tell you that it really wasn’t either of those things. It was actually less eventful then the drive down was. ( No welcoming greetings from any of the state police!) The original plan was to leave the world around 6pm after dinner and drive for about 6 hours and then find a place to sleep and finish the drive on Saturday. However, because the ride down went so well, we decided to just drive straight thru on the way home. Again the plan was for me to drive until I got tried (or about 3am) then let my wife drive for about 3 hours and then I would take back over and finish the drive.

Now we were leaving the World at 7pm, so we missed a.m. rush hour traffic out there and since it was a Friday night, there was no Traffic at all during the night. The kids watched some movies but were asleep in no time. I I ran into no traffic or construction the rest of the night and into the morning hours. I probably saw more deer then cars on the roads thru most of GA and SC. I also remembered to keep a close eye on the posted speed limits during the entire way home. For me, the first half of the drive flew by. I let my wife take over at 3am and again the plan was to let me wife take over for about 3 hours and that plan would have worked perfectly if it wasn’t for the pouring rain that started an hour after she took over. I knew at this point that my wife was getting nervous driving on the highway and that I wouldn’t be able to get back to sleep, so I took over driving after an hour of sleep. We made it to DC on Saturday morning around 7am with again no traffic or Construction. The only times we even slowed down the entire trip up was when we hit Philly, due to an accident. The Only issue I had was that I didn’t stop for a bathroom break before we hit DC and Delaware had one of its Service stations closed and I REALLY had to go potty. Honestly, it was as close to a perfect drive home as I could have asked for. The kids again slept for about 10 hours of the 16 hour trip. I was able to keep myself busy with an audiobook and some comedy audio clips. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that I spend HOURS and HOURS planning and preparing for just the car ride. I made 15 personalized videos, in which only 2 were watched during the car ride. I printed out a dozen different car ride games for the kids to play and we didn’t even play one of them!!! I got the Hotspot set up for my phone and we didn’t even use it in the car!!! I did all this planning to make sure that the drive was easy and smooth for everyone and it was!!! We arrived in Quakertown, Pa at 11am, 16 hours after leaving Disney World.

Day 10: Final Thoughts

We arrived home on day 10 at 11am on Saturday December 7th. Today we were going to unpack and take it easy. We also have the next day off before we had to go back to working world. We find that with a very bust Disney vacation, it is good to have a day or two to unwind and relax before going back to work. In years past these were depressing days wishing we were back at Disney. These days they are not as depressing as they used to be. Maybe that’s because we are now in double digit trips taken to the world, but I’d like to think it’s because the trips now are more fulfilled. For the most part we end up doing all the things that we really wanted to do. We rode all the rides that we wanted, saw all the shows and eat all the foods. I know that a lot of us “Disney People” also have things that we do to help ease the depression; for myself I have since year 1, made up a scrap book of keepsakes and memories to look back on. I also complete a DVD of the trip and I usually get both of these things done within the first week or two of being back. I really find that this helps me look back and appreciate all the wonderful things that we were able to do and see. This year I am also doing the Trip Report as a new way to record the memories and share my thoughts.
Before I finish, just a recap on a few things and topics:

#1 Magicband, My Disney Experience, and FP+:If you look at other posts I have made in the past leading up to this trip, you would see that I have been very optimistic about all these new changes and have gone on to say how excited I am to see where Disney ends up taking all this technology. So now after experiencing everything they have going on as of our trip, I can now give a little more of an opinion on the matter.
Though I am still optimistic with how Disney is going to take our Vacation experience in the future. I am not overall happy with the product that they have now. The Good and the Bad:

Magicband:
Pros: I LOVE the Magicband for the most part. Love the easy of being able to have charging privileges at such an easy convenient location. As we were leaving they also added the Photopass on to the band as well, which removes another card from your wallet or pocket. Love the ease of being able to get into the parks and not having to carry around paper FP’s. The Cons: They need to get the bugs fixed out of the system. I know it is still new, but the slowdowns the technical part fails at can be a little frustrating at times. They also need to fix the scanners at the resort gates. The only way I could get my MB to work at the Resort gates, was to take it off every time. Disney might also want to work on tightening up some of the security features on this. I know that there is no actual information stored on the MB, but one thing I found a little creepy is that when you use your MB at places, (like for FP) after you scan it, the screen will come up with your name on it. Maybe I am just being paranoid, but anyone could see my (or other kids) names and could end up using that info for not so good reasons. I know its just me being a parent and thinking of worse cases scenarios, but couldn’t someone use that info to approach a child and take advantage of a situation. I understand CM’s using it to create a more personal experience, but I as a guest, shouldn’t be able to easily see the names of strangers.

My Disney Experience:The Pros: I loved how it put everything at one spot. Being to have all the reservations and plans at one location was really convenient. I liked being able to set up FP+ ahead of time. I also like being able to customize the MB’s and order them ahead of the trip. When it worked, I thought the website was set up pretty easy to navigate the pages. I liked being able to use the website to easily go back and make changes to plans (when it worked) The Cons: Nothing ever worked!!!! I know that is not true, but really it didn’t work a lot!!! It took weeks and many try’s to get simple things (like online check, MB’s and FP+) in to work. The only thing that worked fine and never had any issues was my Dining ADR info. The mobile app for this is even worse than the full website. I used it almost every day and had it not work correctly more than it actually worked. They need to find ways to get the communication to work better in these programs to eliminate these issues.

FP+:
The Pros: I like being able to book these ahead of time, it helps build the excitement as the trip gets closer. It saves on some running around having to collect paper FP’s at each attraction. The new system will save a ton of trees!!!! The Cons: where to start here??? No all kidding aside, I dislike the tiered system, I also dislike the fact that you only 3 FP+ for an entire day and for only one park a day. I know they will never be able to make a perfect system that will make everyone happy, but I really think they need to find ways around all three of this things. For my family, these things will not be a big factor in our vacations, we will just have to plan a little better and be a little stricter to schedules then we currently are. The only real negative is that we will probably never be able to ride Space Mountain 8 times in a single day. Honestly for us it is a small negative, one that will not ruin future trip and make us not want to come back. If anything, I would consider taking out stock in “Touringplan.com” if I could, because with this new system, people are going to need a good touring plan now more than ever. I know this new system is supposed to help the people who do not plan well now. Allow them not to have to get to RD to see their favorite attractions, but I do not see how it is going to make line shorter and allow the normal guest to be able to do more. I just don’t see that with the current system. (Just my opinion)

Other opinions:

Attrations Plus Card:
I can not tell you how much we loved this product. As I have said in the TR, we are not one of those families that will slow down enough to take full advantage of the Photopass + card for $150-$200. But the Attractions Plus card for only $50.00 is a much better value for our family. Not only do we now have all of those wonderful photos but we were also able to add extra enjoyment in out daily park touring, by haveing fun creating the many different poses we used throughtout the trip. All in all we came away with 72 ride photes at the end of our trip. For families that enjoy the trill rides, I feel that this product is a gread add on.

Guest Service: I know that there are plenty of people out there they swear by the fact that Disney guest service has gone downhill over the years. I and my family are not those people. I continue to LOVE going to Disney for that wonderful high level of guest service. After 12 years and 11 trips, I have still yet to find that Disney CM that did not give great guest service. Being in Customer service, I would do anything to get my employees to that level. Now the one observation I did notice on this trip, was the obvious increase workloads that CM’s are being asked to do. As I said in the TP, I noticed on more than one occasion that the servers seemed to be stretched thin. This was even more apparent in the maintenance issues throughout the parks. Maybe it was just our luck (or the Tiki God’s punishing us for double/triple dipping) but we experienced a lot of ride and show issues throughout our trip.

With all that said, Disney is still doing something right, because the crowd levels were probably the highest I have even seen during this week at the parks. Besides the Maintenance issues, I didn’t notice a dip in quality at Disney, the food was great everywhere we eat, The parks looked wonderful, even all the normal holiday decorations (minus the lights at Epcot, but that has been gone for years…stupid technology!!! <<<Inside joke for anyone who gets it!!)

Driving to the World:
As I told my wife, as went to bed on the night we got back from the trip… I would do the drive to and from Disney in a heartbeat. If I could have, I would have gotten back in the car and done it all over agian withour even thinking about it. I would try and make a better effort to allow my wife more time to drive and give myself a little more time to relax and rest. To save a $1000.00 dollars, is a no brainer for me. I would also do the overnight drive and also do the straight shot down and back.

Overall, I also said that I felt and still do, that this was my favorite trip to the Disney world. As a whole, I really enjoyed the drive, the time spent at the parks, the food and most of all…the time spend with my family. A vacation filled with great times and memories, which I will hold on to for the rest of my life.

Great report. Thanks for sharing it with us. I do not see the attractions offer just the new memory maker now. Maybe I am missing it. I would try that being we had PP+ and on several the people in front of us raised their arms up and blocked our faces and so needless to say I was annoyed spending so much money on something and having that happen to me. I even said something on TOT when I saw it and the guy who did it ran away. I was hysterical laughing. Guess I looked violent.

Anyway, it was a great report and sounds like a fun trip.

Thank you for following. I know at least when we were there you could not buy it ahead of time like Photopass + (or the now, Memory maker)you could only purchase the "Attractions +" card at any of the ride attractions photo stations. I really hope this is something that they continue to offer.

We also had many photo's of people blocking our views and a those pictures didn't turn out so well. But to honest, I do feel bad for the other people in some of our photos and hoping they were not too upset with our funny faces ruining their shots.
