As seasoned DCL cruisers, we took a 4 day cruise three years ago, my inlaws started asking us bunch of questions about taking a Disney cruise several months ago. The more they asked, the more I looked at the Galveston sale prices they were looking at, and the more I wanted to go. As a professional DCL site stalker I knew the prices for the end of the year sailings out of Galveston were great. As a Kansas native I was even more impressed by a warm cruise vacation where I didn't have to pay for airfare. So I thought how could I manage to convince DH to take an unplanned cruise for a week, when we already were planning a week long trip to the east coast in June? :rolleyes1 Basically I said hey honey.....your entire family is booking a DCL cruise out of Galveston in October. I think it would be fun to surprise them. He thought about it for 5 seconds and said let's make it happen. :cool1: The IRS had messed up on our return, and were in the process of fixing it, so we should have our return here soon, we'll avoid budget issues and use the refund money for a cruise. It was May and the PIF date wouldn't be until Aug. Shouldn't be an issue. Haha! :rotfl2:

So DH and I decide to book, contact our TA and book. :thumbsup2 I do the usual pre planning stuff, join the DIS group, join the facebook page and start thinking about returning to the beautiful Wonder for a week! :cloud9: We head east for a week in June and enjoy a wonderful time with my mother. July goes by and still we are waiting for our IRS refund. I start to panic and make phone calls pleading with them to do their job. Our PIF date is quickly approaching and I'm starting to panic. August rolls around, still no refund but I have at least been told I'll have it by the end of the month. Too late for our PIF date. :headache: What to do? We are not happy about it but we put the remainder of the cruise cost on a CC and the next day our return shows up. :dance3: Cool, we're good to go!

During this painful wait for our cruise DH and I stuck with we were going to surprise his family. This included his DM, DF, DB, DSIL and our 2 nieces, DN2 and DN8. We also decided might as well add another surprise in and surprise DD7 as well! So DH and I plan this all out, meanwhile I'm helping the inlaws plan their cruise and laughing to myself because I know we'll be on the ship with them. I went as far as to send my DMIL Disney gift cards so she could book us a future cruise while she was on the ship. By the time it was all said and done I had told so many lies I wasn't sure who was getting on what ship or when. :rolleyes1 I kept bringing up the cruise to my DMIL and for awhile thought she knew our secret because she'd look at me funny. Turns out she felt bad we weren't going, she really wanted to take a whole family trip. Little did she know....LOL. As the date crept closer I realized keeping the secret from DD7 was going to be difficult. Especially when I asked her to pack. So I told her since she had a long weekend because of no school that we were going to surprise Daddy with a weekend trip. She was all for it! We decided we'd go spend the weekend in Galveston and enjoy the beach. :thumbsup2 Because she was 4 when we cruised last and we cruised out of Florida she just assumed when the rest of her family talked about cruising on DCL they would be leaving out of Florida, so she never put 2 and 2 together. :woohoo: So we "surprise" Daddy when he gets off work around 1am and show up at his work. DD7 jumps out of the back of the van and announces we're going to Galveston for the weekend! DH was super surprised! We go home, finish up packing and hit the road around 3am. It's 32 degrees when we pull out of our drive. After a long drive and some non Disney approved mutterings as we made our way through Houston traffic we arrive in Galveston around 8pm that night. Check into our hotel and get some sleep. Because we'll need our rest for a long day on the beach the next day. ;) We tell DD7 that we're going to take a boat ride on the ferry and also we'll be changing hotels, so of course we'll need to load our luggage up and take it with us. DD7 takes the bait and is excited for a ferry ride. :thumbsup2 We wait in line excited to get on the shuttle bus to the "ferry" and DD7 notices we have new Disney luggage tags. Seriously? She notices this NOW? The family behind us also has the same Disney tags and are talking about the fun time they are going to have with Mickey. DD7 whispers to me, she thinks we're taking a Disney ferry aren't we? I finally can't stand the suspense any longer and tell her no we're not taking a ferry, we are going on a Disney cruise. The EXACT same cruise her grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle and 2 cousins are going to be on, but they don't know we're coming. She screams with excitement!

Finally we're at the terminal, she's seen the ship and we're all bouncing with excitement as we make our way through the line to check in. Inlaws are nowhere in site and I'm frantically checking their facebook pages to see if they'll post when they arrive. We get our boarding number, 3! Hopefully we can sneak onto the ship before we're spotted. About that time I spot DMIL rounding the corner to check in, so we hide and they call boarding group 1. As the inlaw are walking towards where we are group 3 is called and we were up and on the ship before we knew what happened! I'm not a fan of shutters so in the interest of hiding out we skipped past the boarding pic line and were one of the first people on the ship. I run to guest services, drop off my things to be signed and grab Princess Tea tickets for the ladies in the group.

Finally the moment arrives, and we hear the rest of our family's name announced as they enter the ship for their first time. Thankfully it's quite overwhelming to them and as they are welcomes this little girl comes up and grabs DFIL's leg and yells SURPRISE! He looks down, pats her on the head and turns to DMIL and asks "who is this kid?" :rotfl2: DMIL looks down, shrugs her shoulders and says she doesn't know. About half a second later she looks again and realizes she does in fact know, it's her missing grandchild and then sees DH and I waving from the piano area. :wave2: Everyone is surprised and happy. :grouphug: Then I ask if I can get my gift cards back because I'm probably going to need them. Thankfully they hadn't forgotten them. Unfortunately in all of the excitement I didn't take any pics of the surprise, but no worries I did take a ton of other pics. It's time for a few....

Our first look at the Wonder as we pull into the port.

DD7 waiting to board the ship she just found out about.

Loved our boarding number!

Meeting with the Mouse again!

Here we go!

Now that everyone knows exactly where everyone is, on the ship, we head up to Parrot Cay for lunch. After lunch my DSIL sadly comes up to me to say they are out of Princess Tea tickets. Well surprise again! Here's some! We excuse ourselves to head off to the DIS group meet n greet and then it's room time!

Love the Castaway Club backpack and keychain!

Picture of the back of our cruise shirts.

Next we try to find our Muster station and we're in AP. Simple enough. DD7 totally enjoyed the muster presentation.

Next we go wander around the ship for a bit before the sail away party.
It must be time to leave, no one is getting on now!

So we head up for the sail away party. Good times as always! How can you go wrong? You're on a Disney ship and you're on vacation! The inlaws found us and the kids and adults started their fantastic family vacation!

Here's comes our wonderful hosts!

At this time introductions are done, and we all agree we are going to have a great time! Now it's time to party! Now I have to say from an adult standpoint, giving 800 children and their parents streamers on a stick to hold and wave might not be the best idea. If you like to keep your eyes. Streamer sticks are flying, I'm looking for a pair of goggles so I can see the rest of my vacation, but a good time is had by all anyway!

Finally we wander out of the group of eye poking streamers and head around deck 10. We wave to the wonderful crew who checked us in and got us safely onto the ship.

In front of us is the Carnival Triumph. DD7 asked me isn't that the ship they had to potty into a bag? I told her yes, but they've fixed that now. DD7 replied with well I'm glad we're not on that ship. :rotfl:

Then we found this little guy hiding in the shadows...

We then headed back to our room to unpack and decorate our door. I do want to say our first cruise we booked an inside room and were pixie dusted up to a porthole room. :thumbsup2 This cruise we booked an inside room again, not hoping for pixie dust although it would have been nice, and we kind of did went from an 11c up to an 11a in room 7127. A few things. I am not claustrophobic, but as soon as I walked into this room I wanted out! :scared: The coffee table made it so we couldn't even walk in. I immediately asked our stateroom host what we could do about that and he removed our table. :thumbsup2 It made it better, but it took me about 3 days to get used to the room. I have always said all we do in the room is sleep and shower so it doesn't matter. I think I was wrong. Next time we will at least go for a deluxe inside room or porthole. I felt like we were living in our bathroom at home for a week. I of course don't have Mickey mouse and wonderful servers in my bathroom at home, but space speaking. Even though all we did do was shower and sleep some nights we talked and wanted to maybe play a game or watch a movie before bed and really the set up of the room just didn't work for me. Also the bed was horribly uncomfortable. Our last cruise the bed was fantastic and I slept better than I had in a long time. This cruise on day 3 I asked DD7 to switch with me and I took over the couch. Thank goodness for being short! :thumbsup2 After that I could at least sleep more than an hour at a time. I am not sure what it was about the bed, but the lump in the middle was no comfortable. Last cruise the bed was sideways and so the rocking of the ship moved me side to side at night. This time I went head to toe and maybe that was the problem? Either way I didn't find out until the last day we could have requested a new mattress or they could have done something about the lump. Or in hindsight I could have asked for the beds to be made into two twins and tried that. Basically I failed to utilize the help that was available and will know better next cruise! Just wanted to add this in as an FYI if anyone should have this issue, there are options. Don't suffer with no sleep if you don't have to.

Here's our door and FE.

Sunset before dinner.

DH and I after dinner walking down route 66.

The lovely deck 4.

Mickey pool

and to finish off for tonight our first "what is that on our bed?!?!" We guessed a squid. Not sure what I was expecting for a towel animal but it wasn't exactly this, or the ones to follow. :confused3 Not that I'm a towel animal snob, nor am I trying to poke fun at our room host. They were wonderful and we were very willing to add a little extra to our tip at the end of the cruise. But many nights I wondered and it became fun to find out what in the world would be on our bed at night.

Next up our first full day at sea. Highlights include an elephant with it's head on backwards, Goofy scaring small children, Palo Brunch with our awesome DIS group, a VIP (very important plush) photoshoot, and mixology shenanigans with Jesus.

Welcome to our first full day at sea! Our day ended up busier than we had planned but it was all fun stuff with great people so who cares? First up we had planned a brunch at Palo for part of our DIS group. I want to take a moment and say what an awesome group of people we sailed with, especially those we met on DIS and the facebook page. :thumbsup2 On our first cruise it was a 4 day and I think our FE group had about 32 rooms. This time our FE had over 125 rooms! I highly suggest you join your DIS meet group, even if you don't plan on participating in an FE. Our group did so many things together that it really made the cruise seem extra special. Like we had a whole ship full of friends. And these were the kind of friends who joined you when you wanted them to and you still had plenty of private time for your family. You could be as involved or as uninvolved as you liked. I really hope to sail again with anyone from this group. :grouphug:

Here is the view I had for brunch.

My plate of goodness from the Palo Brunch.

DH ordered the chicken parm. This was the BEST chicken parm I have ever tasted. If I could have possibly eaten more food I would have ordered this myself.

I opted for Oysters Rockefeller. Very good. I preferred the Palo version over the MDR one. Both are good. Palo was better.

and now for dessert!

We were lucky enough to have Gold Mickey on our cruise and he was kind enough to organize a VIP photo shoot. VIP (very important plush) that is. You can't forget about your stuffed travel buddies. DD7 brought her best snuggle buddies Mr. Bear (he's been around for 6 years and is showing his age, but has yet to miss a Disney trip!) and of course Duffy.

After the photoshoot we found Peter Pan wandering the ship.

After this DD7 was more than happy to head back to the Oceaneer Lab for a Ratatouille cooking class and DH and I headed to a private mixology with the wonderful folks from our DIS group. Jesus was our instructor and he said we'd be safe with him. :thumbsup2 He was a riot and we loved Mixology. Definitely a must do again. Towards the end my memory gets a bit hazy but I believe our mixed samples were a B52, Long Island Tea, Cosmopolitan, Mudslide and a Bahama Mama. All very good. Maybe a little too good.

Jesus showed us the finer points and reasons behind mixed drinks.

Then we made our own as a group and came up with the HalloWonder Brew. It was very good!

A good time was had by all!

Before heading to our next adventure, that I really can't remember what it was, I took a moment to chill outside of the Cadillac Lounge.

After mixology it was time to get ready for formal night and the Golden Mickeys. I had missed this on our last cruise and was really looking forward to seeing it this time. As it turns out I wouldn't be seeing it this time either. We arrived 10 minutes before the show started and the theater was already full. Only odd and end seats and from the back we could not find 3 together. We were told to wait until the show started and then we could head down to the front and look for seats. As soon as the show started a mad rush headed that way and all seats were gone. I was in no mood or had the ability to stand for the entire show. So DH stood with DD7 in the back. Thankfully our inlaws had gotten there a bit earlier and my sweet DFIL saw them in the back and let DD7 take his seat and stood with DH. I went out to deck 4 and to be honest I pouted for awhile. My best guess as to what happened from conversations I heard after the show let out was many of those with the 1st dining rotation had decided to skip their MDR that night and go to the 1st show instead of 1st dinner. Same thing happened on the night they had Dreams, so we showed up 30 minutes early that night and got seats. I'm not trying to point any fingers or stuff, just pointing out the issue and if you have 2nd dining and it's a popular show plan time to get there super early. After my pout on deck 4, it didn't last long because the view was amazing and I was the only one out there since everyone was either eating or watching the show, we headed off to dinner.

My view of the Golden Mickeys. Or also known as deck 4. At least I'll have a show I haven't seen before on our next cruise right? :thumbsup2

We stopped by for a visit with Minnie

Next we did some light shopping before dinner and look who we ran into? Goofy! He posed for a pic with the girls and the little one DN2 took one look at him and said NO WAY and made a run for it! :rotfl2:

After DN2's great escape the older girls happily posed with Goofy.

After dinner we were walking by Studio Sea and the girls couldn't help but run in and dance!

After they had danced themselves exhausted we headed for a pic with Mickey and DH felt someone literally breathing down his neck. We turn around and find DD7's favorite character Pluto!

Next we move on to conversing with the Mouse.

This was a rough night for me because I had our formal outfits all planned out perfectly so we could have a great family picture. When getting dressed the zipper malfunctioned on my dress and I didn't want to scare the kids so I had to change into something else. I was so sad. DH was so sweet and changed out of his formal attire to better match mine so I didn't feel like I was the odd one out. DD7 was too adorable but she changed into matching sneakers so she could dress down a bit. Because of all of this, the picture still is one of my favorite family photos we took.

With a busy unplanned, unscheduled day at Key West in the morning we headed to bed and found this little elephant on our bed. At least this one we were 100% sure it was an elephant and I understand why his head is on backwards, or else it would have fallen off and that would have been great too, but it does look a bit uncomfortable. Or exorcist like, but hey it's a Halloween cruise right?

Coming soon.....What do you do with a drunken sailor? Fun at the candy store. Who let the chickens out? And another installment of what is THAT on my bed???

Enjoying all your photos; looks like a great time was had by all. Loved that you surprised your family :)

great photos.. My dh is a huge KISS fan. Where did you find that magnet or did you make it?

Great report so far. How disappointing about the Golden Mickey's and not being able to find a seat :sad1: but at least you will have a reason to book another cruise. :thumbsup2

I am enjoying your trip report. We will be on her this Saturday and love reading trip reports regarding the Wonder.
