Hi everyone,
One of my greatest friends will be returning from a Military deployment soon. Her DH and I have been planning a trip to WDW for the end of Oct. He would like to do something special for her and I was hoping for some ideas. They could be with or with out kids. So far....

Spa treatment at WL.
Dessert Fireworks at MK.

And then I am stuck. I think the boat to see the fireworks can be more expensive then they want to pay. I was also thinking about having something delivered.

What are some of your idea's?
Thanks

PS They are staying the the FW cabins.

First, let me extend my most sincere gratitude to your friend for serving, and also to the friends and family members left behind... I have so much respect and admiration to all of our service men/women and those that love them!!!:yay:

I think that the Dessert Buffet and/or spa treatment sounds wonderful, if your DF likes those types of things, or call Disney or a travel agent to find out the cost of the fireworks cruise, then maybe friends and family members, neighbors, church associates etc could all chip in to defray the costs, if everyone contributed a little it could really help. I know I would throw in $5 or 10 dollars if someone asked, just because I am so greatful...

What ever extra you can plan is going to be special, just being home with the family again is going to be "magical" try to purchase the photo pass cd before they go too that way they will have lasting memories.

Hats off to you for being so supportive and helping plan this for your friend!:cheer2:

A romantic dinner for her and her DH! There are many great restaurants in the MK resorts, CG, Citricos, Narcoosees, Artists Point...I bet she'd love a date night!

And, of course, many thanks to her and her family for the sacrifices they have made for all of us :thumbsup2

they have something in magic kingdom called veteran of the day... if she is the first to ask about it (i think at town hall) that day she can participate in the flag ceremony (i think it's at 5) and get a special pin and certificate.. you can look it up online.

Does she like "girly" things? If so, she might also like tea at the GF, especially if she has a daughter to share it with. You could also have something special in the room to surprise her from the Disney Florist. A wishes or illuminations cruise would be wonderful, maybe a tour, or even, depending on the cost factor, a VIP tour guide (pricey, but I'm told it makes for a once in a lifetime experience)! If she wants to do something fun, she could do a makeover at BBB or (please check if it's possible, I don't know for sure)Pirates league w/ the kids. If you share a little about her personality, ages of her kids, etc. it might be easier to give specific recommendations, too.

Please thank her and her husband for their tremendous service and sacrifice. We are very grateful.

I would STRONGLY recommend the spa thing if she likes that sort of stuff...

One thing the "bathing" experience out here IS NOT is relaxing....

I would imagine it would be a very appreciated "de-stresser"..

Heck, my wife is getting the spa treatment when I get back just for chasing around our 21 month old:rotfl::rotfl:(she also works full time at a demanding job)....heck she's earned it....:wizard:

Thanks for the idea's....

She is not a "fancy food" eater. Once her and I went on vacation to Key West. There are tons of great places to eat there. She would go with me to get some fancy food and then I go with her to get her Cheese sticks and fries. HAHA

I am not sure if she will want to let go of her kids or not. I am going to check prices on the Florist or spa treatments.

I sent her DH about the flag ceremony already. I am retired army...I would love to do that but I would cry the whole time. I have always been a crier with the National Anthem. :goodvibes

She will be home soon so I have to get this planned.

Keep the idea's flowing...thanks.

Thanks for your service! My hubs isn't deployed yet...but I'm wondering what I would earn for chasing our 2 year old twins around! LOL...oh yeah...I'm saving for Disney...that is my earnings!:lmao:

I would imagine, even if she's not a "girly girl" , which has nothing to do with her being a soldier, (I know LOTS of super girly troops) she should enjoy and appreciate some R and R at the spa!

Oct is during the food and wine festival, so maybe you could book her and her DH one of the special meals or events. I know there is an event called Sweet Sundays, that is not too expensive, that involves tasting desserts from a famous pastry chef. I know you said that she doesn't like fancy food, but I think everyone likes fancy desserts!

They also have special wine seminars during Food and Wine, if she would be interested in something like that.

I also always thought taking a segway tour would be cool, either the off road segway at Fort Wilderness or the segway tour of World Showcase. If they have small children, they would not be able to participate, but maybe you could watch the kids while they were touring.

What about doing the Pirates & Pals Fireworks cruise out of the Contemporary? It's a bit cheaper that the other ones, and you get refreshments, pretty exclusive time with Smee and Captain Hook, the boat cruise, a great view of the fireworks, and even a photo op with Peter Pan.

Or, he could surprise her with flowers in the room (the Disney Dozen is beautiful, and lasted our whole stay at BW at the beginning of the month).

Depending on the kids ages, they could do one of the family tours of the Magic Kingdom.

Just a couple ideas....

You could also book them a carraige ride at POR which is very close to their resort. it's, I think, about 25 minutes long, could accomodate them and the kids if they wanted, and costs about $35.

sorry, forgot to add: also, have them note what you're celebrating on your dining reservations. Nothing guaranteed, but might bring some extra pixie dust; after all, what she and other soldiers are doing is pretty darn special!
