Im sure he wont be in any shape to go

Will move you to the DVC board where you can receive some assistance. Good luck to you!

so what I need to know is how do I cancel and re book unfortuanlty Ive checked with the resort avavilablity and theres not much open

You can cancel online. Your points will go into a holding account, holding points have their own rules, you can only book 60 days prior to check in.

thanks both of you for responding--Im on the phone now cancelling--she said since this is our first time booking shell make an exception as far as the points going into holding--Ill have to ask her again exactly what that means

all cancelled did I ever get a fanstatic CM she said that since this was the first time booking she was able to not put our points in holding and just put them back into our bank

I really have my doubts that well be able to rebook any time soon since all thats left is 1 bedrooms and larger oh well Ill just have to start planning for next yr--pretty soon our 11 month window opens

You lucked out with that CM! Sorry that you have to cancel. I know what that feels like. Did you have airfare booked also or were you driving?

no we have air with SW I booked mine with points so Ill get my points back hoping we cna rebook since SW will hold the funds for a yr

If you are not able to go you absolutely need to cancel the reservation prior to midnight eastern time today. If you do not then all points used on the reservation will be lost. You can do the cancellation online as MS is now closed. You cannot wait until tomorrow to do this as the points will be lost.

Because you are less than 30 days prior to arrival the points will go into holding status. This means you can only book with them for a stay that begins 60 days or less from the date you book and will as usual be subject to availability. If you do not use these points before the end of your UY they will expire at that time.

Well, unless DVC Member Services is willing to work some magic, which is unlikely for a cold or flu, here are the rules:

If you cancel before your day of scheduled arrival, your points will go into holding status, and can only be used for "last minute" reservations 60 days out from arrival dates. Holding points can not be banked, and will expire at the end of your current use year. Good luck if you try to reschedule a trip within two weeks or so. Available rooms will probably be very limited, if there is even any availability.

If you cancel on the day of your scheduled arrival, points are considered spent, and will be lost. Though DVC could work some magic, but not guaranteed, if you're lucky, if it is a major medical issue/hospitalization or death in the immediate family, generally cold/flu and general illness type conditions are generally not granted such magic.

Good luck to you.

There is nothing wrong with booking the 1BR or larger unit. They are nice. Really. You won't be disappointed.

Hope your DH is feeling better quickly! Congrats on the "one time" exception.

Aren't they a lot of points though we only have 100 points a year. I'll have to check into though thanks for the idea

For the cold that's been going around I would go anyway. If flying, have him put on a mask and go. If driving have him sleep in the back and go.

I knew something was going to happen as it usually does

In the future, consider buying the insurance (which is sold per Use Year, I believe) for your points so if you lose them you could at least get the dues back on them.

Your post was totally moved to one of the DVC forums. That means if you had clicked onto it, or if you had been reading in it, you would have been taken to the post. I actually responded in it. :)

That was incredibly lucky.

SW will hold the funds for a yr

For a year *from when you booked*. Not from when you cancelled.

And for your points you're going to need to look at them and see when/if they can still be banked to next year.

DH had chills and aches yesterday. Today he's fine. We would have gone.

I merged your two threads so you will now find all the responses in this thread. Hope something works out for you. Good luck!

Hope your DH feels better soon. He probably feels so bad about this-so his sickness is twice as bad as if it wasn't the day before a vacation. Best wishes for him!

Some people forget that not everybody has a ton of points to use when they tell you to just book a larger unit. Yes, 1 bedrooms are a LOT more points than studios.

You got lucky with your CM for sure. We had to cancel a trip once a few years ago to VGC and Aulani due to a medical emergency with our DS - it was 8 days out. He wasn't allowed to fly for 3 weeks. Of course we could not reschedule that kind of trip for any time soon but we got lucky enough to be able to push the trip back by a week and found a 1 bedroom available at SSR and we were able to drive down instead. But they still put the handful of unused leftover points into holding.
