Supposed to fly out of Philly Monday am

American Airlines. I'm looking into train service into the airport now. But the phil. mayor has declared an emergency after 1pm. No non-emergency travel after this. I bet trains will be shut down also. I'm trying to decide what to do. If i don't go to Chicago my sis will be very upset but this is a family get together and we can go out in the spring. My other sis is already there because they drove yesterday. We have to come back Thursday no matter what. My son is in a band that has a new years eve show. So if I try to get out of here and we end up sitting for two days because everybody else is being rescheduled the trip will be pointless. They didn't announce this was coming until yesterday at around 5pm. I should have tried harder to get out early this am. When I called them they told me there were no available flights until Tuesday but if you looked online at the flight sites there were some seats this morning at ten thirty.

Don't you think you may be trying to push a string?

I am supposed to fly to chicago from Philly at 7 am Monday. We are getting warnings of a severe weather emergency and it's going to be worst here in south jersey. I don't drive well I'm the snow. Even if flights are going it's quite possible I won't be able to get to the airport. Also were only going for three days. If we get delayed a DDT or more the trip becomes pointless. What is the way these things are dealt with.

John Belushi: "My advice to you... is to start drinking heavily."

OP: As upset as your sister is, I'm sure she'd much rather see you get there safely. Don't guilt yourself into a dangerous situation (driving in the blizzard.) Let her know that you'd rather spend a good amount of time than be so stressed because of the snow and only see her a day. Go in April.

Also: for anyone who has specific airline questions, head over to the transportation board. I've asked airline questions when they're not Disney related and people over there really know their stuff.

If I get to the airport for a scheduled flight that isn't yet cancelled could I still end up sitting their for a day in a mess because all of the people whose flights were cancelled are going to be there too? Is the day after a storm when many flights were cancelled going to be an awful time to try to fly? Or am I being over worried about this and I should just go up and see what happens, assuming that the roads are cleard in the am? It's a two hour drive to the airport normally. This means I'd have to leave here at five am and I'd bet that they won't have made a decision on a ten am flight by then.

The biggest problem after a storm like this is the planes are out of position when flights resume. The plane that your flight is using may not be getting to PHL so then it can't fly you out. So they may have a decision by 5am, if the flight that is bringing your plane in is cancelled. PHL is not a hub for American, so they are more likely to cancel. Looks like the 3 American flights for tonight are cancelled.

*Just heard on the weather channel that American cancelled all fights until 10:00am, so the question is if they cancel the flight that brings your plane in. The question is also do you want to risk your life on the roads getting there?

At this point I would call and cancel your trip and get a credit to rebook the trip in the Spring. You are looking at major delays and headaches by trying to fly out of Philadelphia tomorrow.

Save yourself the headache and just make the call now to cancel.

Tiggeroo - I say this with love:

Cut the drama, bite the bullet, grow a backbone and tell your family you're not going.

I guess I don't get why this is such a big deal when it should be black and white. People are dying in this storm. You're wringing your hands because you don't know if you can travel to Chicago tomorrow and your sister will be sad? Tough poop. She'll get over it and life goes on.

Now AA is not taking any calls

They have operators on duty 24 hours a day but they are probably swamped with calls right now.

Head to bed and call in the morning and tell them you want a credit to rebook at a later date because you can't get to the airport due to the weather conditions.

If your family in Chicago doesn't understand then that is their problem. You have done all you can do at this point. The trip is off.

Now AA is not taking any calls

Use Google to try and find different random numbers to AA. That's how I finally got through to CO. I still had to hold for 4 hours the first time before I fell asleep and then in the morning I was on hold for 2 hours when someone finally took my call. I think I called the flight status number and didn't hit any buttons and stayed on the line until someone picked up the phone and they transferred me to reservations.

Looks like all American's PHL/ORD flights were cancelled this morning. Hopefully she did not try to get to the airport.

Well my second flight was cancelled. I saw that the. Main roads were passable and sis finally got thru. I told her I'd only do it in daytime before roads iced up. AA could not put us on a flight til wed so no go. I'm guessing PIA is a bit of a mess. Sis had a lot of plans including tix to blue man group and a nice dinner. I feel really bad. She knows I was hesitating because of fear of flying but I did have my bags packed.
