i was hoping to find supportive songs about the courage it takes to come out, or even to celebrate a partner. there are very few gay musicians that ACTUALLY use the proper pronouns in their songs.. example: a woman singing the song line as "she," or "her," and i was wondering if anyone had any positive songs they could share?

chely wright recently released "like me," about her courage that it took to come out to her father. hopefully there are more songs like this out there?

thanks in advance!!

Well, an obvious one is "True Colors".

"Take Your Momma Out" by Scissor Sisters is a fun one. It's about a guy coming out to his mother by taking her clubbing :)

Court Yard Houds' "Aint No Son" is a good one, although it's about a young man who is conflicting with his parents as he comes out.

Jay Brannan - "Housewife" is a great new song.

Ari Gold - "Love Will Take Over" is an amazing song too.

Levi Kreis is a good friend of mine and a fabulous singer (...and is currently nominated for a Tony Award for his portrayal of Jerry Lee Lewis in "The Million Dollar Quartet" actually!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2). He's an out singer and several of his songs are love songs to or about men....and his single "We're Okay" (which was #1 on the Logo Network's Clicklist for a record run a couple years back) is about him reconciling his relationship with his mother after coming out. (And many of his other songs are about him reconciling himself with his sexuality, etc.) He's definitely worth a listen!

Go to YouTube and type in "Meg Christian" -- any of her songs are wonderful, but "Sweet Darlin' Woman" is one of my favorites. She doesn't perform or record anymore, which is sad for the rest of us.

Cris Williamson is still around -- search for her on YouTube and don't miss "Waterfall" or "Song of the Soul."

Before Olivia was a cruise company, it was a record company and Meg and Cris were two of their first artists.

This is the music I came out to; hope you enjoy it as well.

P.S. Also check out "Lesbian Concentrate" put out by Olivia Records in 1977 in response to Anita Bryant's big anti-gay campaign (for those of you too young to remember, she was the spokesperson for Florida Orange Juice producers, hence the name and cover art).

Melissa Etheridge's early stuff, "Yes I am" is a good one. ::yes::

Also, her newer GIANT is great.

Heather Small, as Rob shared, of course! See my signature! LOL.

Actually, pretty much anything by Melissa now that I think about it. :teeth:
