I figured this might be the best place for this post-

My DBF is obese, 300 lbs I would estimate and he's only 5'6. He works 90+ hours a week at two full time jobs and does not eat healthy. Most likely because he is never home.

He is starting to have major health problems along with a knee injury from work that's exacerbated by the excess weight. He's a health care provider and knows that it's not healthy.

So he just bought a motorcycle and he knows that he would enjoy it more if he lost weight. I think that he's a little more motivated now. He knows what he has to do, last summer he bought a bicycle and enjoyed riding but exercise definitely isn't his thing. He knows what he needs to do.

Is there anything that I can do to support him that you guys found especially helpful? I've never had to lose weight like this before.
Thanks and Good luck!

don't pretend to understand how hard this will be for him. Thin people don't haVe a clue. It is like being an alcoholic - we are addicted to food. Except we can never go cold turkey we have to eat to live. So imagine an alcoholic drinking alcohol everyday in moderation - this is how hard it will be for him.
Don't deprive him. There will be bumps in the road. You don't beat yourself up - just get right back on track. I am not on a diet I am changing my lifestyle to get a healthier me. Food is my fuel. If I eat garbage I feel like crap. And really exercise is the only way. I hated exercise more than anyone I know and now I walk 30+ minutes a day.
Buy and have healthy options available all the time. If they are not there I spazz and eat whatever.

One thing I would like to suggest is that when you are with your friend come up with ideas to get some exercise together. Ask him if he'd like to go to the mall or take a walk to the park. When I'm stuggling on my diet I really appreciate when my dh says "Hey, lets go mall walk" or "lets take the dog for a walk". That's a much nicer reminder for me to exercise then if he were to just come out and say "You need to get off your bottom and exercise." :lmao:

I commend you for trying to help your friend. :thumbsup2 Everyone needs a support system. Good luck to you both. :goodvibes
