Supervision in the teen club area?

Ok So I was getting on this forum to see if my 12 year olds (who will be 13 two weeks after our cruise) would be allowed in the teen area? But after reading this thread maybe I'll just leave that alone:scared1: I will already have one teenager in there. Of course, if they are all three in the teen area they would rat each other out if anything inappropriate happened.

Thanks for all the replies. And I'm not naive...I know that it's a big boat and if teenagers want to do something they shouldn't, they'll try to find a way.

My concern is to whether or not the teen area is staffed with CM's who have an "Im so cool and in tune with teens that I'm not going to stop you from doing what you want" outlook or if they will play "the heavy" if necessary.

Since they were born, I have talked to and will continue to talk to my sons about how they represent themselves and their family in all situations. However, I believe that if young people are allowed to do the wrong thing by the people who are supervising them it would send a "too lax" message and might lead to situations that wouldn't have occurred otherwise.

Not saying that's how it is, just wondering what others' experiences have been (and thanks again to all those who have responded :) )

If your oldest will still be 13 at time of sailing then all three of them will be in Edge.

My oldest will be 16 1/2 and my second will be 15. My youngest two will be in Edge b/c they will be 11 and 12 at the time of sailing. :)

Wow, I guess I'm a prude. IMO, these teens should have a little more respect for themselves and others if they're looking to "you know" after just meeting someone. Dream cruises are only 3 or 4 days long. How well do you know someone in that amount of time. I can see maybe kissing (although that would still make me uncomfortable if I knew DS15 was making out with a girl he just met), but anything past that... :sad2:

My oldest will be 14 so that would put him in the teen area (Vibe?) But my twins will be 12 (almost 13) so that would put them in the Edge? Is that right? This will be our first cruise and I am still a little confused about what age groups go where. TIA I am still not sure that I want my 14 year old hanging out with the 17 year olds for the reasons described in this thread. YES, I AM OVERPROTECTIVE... I admit it:)

on our cruises, the teen CMs were very strict - Disney has very specific rules and the CMs made it clear that they expected them to be obeyed. Not that they weren't friendly - DS totally loved the CMs on both cruises, but he said they were very clear that they wouldn't stand for any inappropriate behavior in the club. And that included during the organized teen club activities on Castaway Cay...

of course, the teens are free to leave the club and some did to go hang out in other places...
but in the club and during club activities (that were held outside the club), the CMs took their supervising seriously...
but as i noted, DS totally loved his time with the teen club on both cruises...
and he was with them practically the entire cruise...whenever there were teen activities, he was there (on CC too)...

Lori,
We are on the same cruise! We will definitely need to meet. My oldest DS will be 16 1/2 at sailing, DD will be 15 1/2 and youngest DS will be 11! Glad you addressed this as I was a little curious too!
Thanks!
Michelle

Okay, I think a teen themself needs to post in this thread so I'm gonna take a crack at it. I think I'm qualified to answer seeing how I went on 2 B2B cruises on the Dream last month and so have had first-hand experience...

The CMs do blend in with the teens and have a lot of fun with us but as soon as something inappropriate happens, they instantly go into parent mode. They are very strict involving this and have had a no tolerance policy the 2 cruises I was on. They are constantly monitoring us and I have never been in a situation where a CM wasn't in my area of view. Nothing happened on my cruise so I do not have any info regarding how they would react to a PDA, etc.

Second, a lot of you are correct, while CMs can make it a "disney-environment" in the club itself, no one can really control what happens elsewhere except for the parties involved and whoever raised them.

Third, whoever came up with the pool situation about sitting on someone's lap, that doesn't happen. Even when I talked to some of my friends who are more experienced cruisers, they haven't really come across anything inappropriate.

All in all, I felt very safe hanging out in Vibe and spent a lot of time there, pretty much as much time as I could. I met a lot of cool people and talk to almost all of them still.:grouphug:

*this is BabyBun's 15 year old daughter btw*

While I havent yet been on the Dream, I was in vibe a lot on our cruise in January on the magic. I only saw pda between teens once (a guy & a girl were sharing a bean bag and cuddling with their arms around each other) and within minutes, one of the counselors told them to either stop or leave, so they're very good about keeping things family friendly and I'm sure it will be the same on the Dream with hot tubs and such.

Thank you for a bird's eye view!:thumbsup2

Honestly, teens will be teens, and like others have said- if they can't get away with it in the teen club, they'll find somewhere else on the ship.

That being said, just remind your kids that just like diamonds, herpes is forever.
