Supermarket help please

I don't understand the fascination with shopping in Walmart whilst in Florida.

Is there an American tourist site similar to this and they are all discussing visiting Tesco whilst in the UK?

I actually enjoy shopping in Publix - it has a much nicer atmosphere than Tescos!

Not fussed about Walmart unless there is something specific we want in there. This year I bought all DDs school supplies in Walmart for about half the price of here :)

My mum and I can spend a whole afternoon in Walmart! I alone can spend 2 hours in the cosmetics section!
We then make a list of all the things we want to bring back I.e cereals we can't get and snacks for the boys lunches that will keep like fruit roll ups!
I also take back art supplies and lots of disney stuff that's way cheaper then most places!!

I love love love the layout of US stores and all the stuff we don't get over here, its. Highlight a of the trip for us :)

But the real genius is the bag packing carousel!

I bought a tonne of stationary for the kids for school. It was much cheaper than here. I am also just fascinated by the range. There is more in one Walmart than my whole town!

I think we need to start a Walmart Appreciation Society:rotfl:

I spend ages in the hair care section as well as the cake baking bit. I also spend time in the frozen pizza section thinking just how many frozen pizza choices do you really need!!! (miles of shelves) The cheese section also surprises me with the volume of processed rubbish available against what I would call proper cheese:)

DH and I have to split up in there other wise we really would be in there all day::yes::

ONLY TWO HOURS:rotfl: We can easily spend double that time when we pop in:rotfl:

This year we actually do have it planned as part of our itinerary. I have a huge long list of 'to buy at Walmart'. When our friends come to the UK from Florida they have the same 'to buy' list but for Tesco!! My list gets longer each year.;)

I'm with you guys.

A trip to Walmart is like an event in itself when we go to Florida!

Top of the list: Chip 'Ahoy's and Cheetos! :rotfl2:

Cheetos are right up there for us as well. Oh and LAYS. Last time we also discovered Jingo's crackers. Other items on the list are mint oero cookies, graham cracker crumbs, Ghirardelli brownie mixes, grape jelly and fresh key limes which you can buy a net of. (DH loves key lime pie and its just not the same made with normal limes) and corn bread mixes. Loads of other stuff on top of that:goodvibes

When's your trip? Am staying at Hilton Bonnet Creek as well (Oct 4 - 18) and all the advice on stuff you can give me would be MUCH appreciated!! :)

Ooh can't wait DH is laughing his head off at me right now !! He should go to the supermarket mor often and he might get excited about it LOL

If he was the one packing up the shopping every week he might ;)

Above poster is right, don't get too excited about it!

(But then I like clever; and for a plastic bag shopping packing idea, it is very clever. Not life changing. But clever).

Thought of by a Walmart check out person too.

it certainly enables them to pack the bags quickly....a bit too quickly:rotfl:

We fly on the Friday 18th -1st Nov so will arrive just as you leave : ( but look forward to hearing all about your trip . Do know that people have said its cheaper to buy the blow up ring to use in the pool from Walmart as they charge a hirer fee . Also you have to pay a parking fee at the hotel so this and the park parking is going to add up . DH didn't want to do on site property even tho we were offered a good deal at the time of booking with DDP , so after paying car parking and food ect would of been better off on site . Think they charge for wifi too . Hoping they have a fridge in the room so will get milk ect for breakfast and disposable bowls so we can get to the parks early . Looking forward to MNSSHP and the food & wine festival . First time in florida so hoping we do ok with the driving as we land at Sanford . Have bought the Dibb map that is very good as a back up and been good for me to mark things and try and plan at bit . Everyone on this site has just been fantastic with helping me plan just wish DH & DS would show a interest !! Going to look at on site next time because I know once there DH will want to go back !! Found the touring plans useful too and just seen on Facebook a map showing times ect for MNSSHP so can plan that now too .

What's a bag packing carousel ??

You know in the smaller UK supermarkets where there are self service tills and next to the screen your carrier bag is hanging with it's handles over 2 hooks ready to fill?

Now imagine a little Lazy Susan style one of those with 4 bags around the outside on it.

The cashier usually swipes the item and puts it straight in the bag when she's done filling the bag turn the spinny and she gets a new one ready to fill without having to pause. Needless to say they can do this pretty fast so you're pulling the full bag off and putting it in your trolley and by the time you look up, the next one is usually ready.

Just be aware, they sometimes will only put 2-3 small items in a bag if they don't think they'll mix with the next items they're scanning so it worth double-double checking you picked up all your bags from the carousel before you leave as it's very easy to overlook a bag.

We always shop at the Walmart on the Junction of the 192 and Oren Brown Road as its the closest to our villa.

They know people spend a LOT of time in there, so they opened a McDonalds IN the store up back!!

(As an aside, if you want to see what a typical rural residential florida road looks like away from the 'tourist' parts of town, drive up Oren Brown Rd from Walmart - its a snapshot of florida 'out in the sticks'! Turning right at the end brings you back up to the 192 at the junction where Poinciana Blvd splits north and south)

That's the one we go to as well. I was a tad surprised to find Maccy D's in there and we did of course go in there, it'd be rude not too:rotfl:
