Supercallifragilistic-ADR'sApproachUs! May '09 PTR *Trip Report has Begun! Pg. 208*

Yesterday Marc & I went to up my parents house in Maine. We live in Massachusetts but it's just only about 75 minutes or so to get there since my parents live in Southern Maine. We went up for a visit for a couple of reasons....so my mom could highlight my hair. She left it on for a bit longer than normal, just call me Beach Barbie. :lmao: Marc wanted to see our new dining room table that is being stored at my parents until we move and my Aunt wanted to give me and my younger cousin something from my grandmother.

My grandmother passed away when I was 13, my cousin is 13 now, she was just a baby when she passed away, we are the only girls on that side of the family besides our Aunt. I was very close to my grandmother and was devastated when she passed away. My Aunt has most of her belongings being that she was her only daughter, she gave me the earrings that I wore on my wedding day that were my grandmother's. She's always been very generous in sharing those things with both of us as she doesn't have a daughter.

I was a bit apprehensive going up there yesterday, I get very emotional when we talk about my grandmother and I start crying and I just didn't want to do that.

So my aunt gives my cousin and I these huge gift bags. I'm totally baffled and we open them and we each pull out a teddy bear. At first, I am completely confused. I'm trying to remember if I ever remember seeing my grandmother with Teddy Bears but I don't. Then my aunt explains. My grandfather was stationed in Alaska during the late 50's/early 60's. When they moved there he bought my grandmother a mink coat (no flames please! ), my grandmother loved that mink coat and wore it all the time in Alaska. My Aunt has had it since she passed, she told us that she tries it on every once in awhile but had no idea what to do with it. Well she found a woman who makes stuffed animals out of old fur coats so my Aunt had her make three teddy bears for us. I thought that was so sweet! I'm proud to report that I didn't cry. :thumbsup2

I'm in love with my Teddy Bear and have been toying around with names for her. I think it should be a girl. Right now the one I love the most is Zella, that was my grandmother's mother's name. I think it's fitting. :goodvibes

Here's a picture of my grandmother when they were in Alaska.

Mom2.jpg

My Aunt is on the search of a picture of my grandmother in her fur coat, I think it would be nice to frame it and put it with the bear.

Here is the Teddy Bear.

The lining was used for her feet and paws. Her arms, legs and head all move. It's so incredible. I think it's an awesome way to remember my grandmother and something that she loved. :goodvibes

After everyone left, my Mom was asking me about my Disney Trip. My parents can't believe that I am going by myself. They know that Jen is coming with me for sometime of it, at first they thought I was nuts but the more I have talked about Jen they have come to accept that.

As we were talking my Mom says, "I can't believe you didn't ask me to go with you." :scared1:  Now, I have been trying for a year to get my parents to go to Disney with us, tried to get them to book a bounceback for free dining last year, invited them to go along with us in May and even talked about them joining us on our December trip. No Dice. I debated asking my Mom to go with me in May, talked to Marc about and I decided not to because I thought she'd say no.

I felt so bad last night even though she said it was fine and her feelings weren't hurt. After driving home and thinking about it more, I sent a huge email to her inviting her to join me on Monday - Saturday. She can't get away as long as I can. She said that she will keep it in mind, she has a weekend planned in April with some of her friends and then she is and my Dad are supposed to go to Pennsylvania in June to do Amish Country and such and she said that if one of those fall through or if she can get away from work she might join me. I still feel like the World's Worst Daughter. I truly thought she'd say no again so I didn't bother! We talked about Disney a bit yesterday and she seemed excited to go, maybe I can plan a trip just me and her next year. I think she would like that. :thumbsup2

During this talk of Disney, my dad found exactly 12 pictures of Disney. The only picture of me was one of Splash Mountain. My mom and I are in the front row and I am completely buried into her shoulder, my brother has his arms up in the second row. You can't even tell it's me in the picture. I gave my Dad the mission of finding ALL of our Disney photos even if they are on slides. :sad2:

I let CP (Jackie) pick out today's Favorites List since she is not feeling well.

The List of Favorites #3. Magic Kingdom.

I am enjoying reading about your ADR's. I debate SO much about where we should go. I hope you get to see Remy! :goodvibes

Thanks! So are you going a trip in 2 months? I thought you were going to be waiting longer until your next trip. That is so exciting for you!

Oh my gosh what a beautiful story about your grandmother.:lovestruc The teddy bear is such a perfect way to remember her and I love that you have a picture of her when she was actually in Alaska. Zella would be a wonderful name for your bear.:goodvibes Thanks for sharing.

A mother daughter trip next year sounds just perfect. My favourite way to visit WDW.:goodvibes

I am loving your "favourite" lists, they are so interesting!

And yep, I got my Chefs de France ADR. 1:30 on May 8!:cool1:

Thank you! Sometimes I worry about sharing stories on here like that but she is such a big part of who I am so it only fits. Plus she went on my first trip to Disney with me. Hehehe.

Ooh, I am so excited your got your ADR! We have one for 1:30 too, so then we will really get the inside scoop of the Remy activity at that time of day. :thumbsup2

That teddy bear is awesome -- the workmanship on it is superb and what a great way to remember your grandmother! I love the picture of her on the dock in Alaska! She's dressed just like a Barbie from that time period! :thumbsup2

Don't feel bad about not asking your mom to come with you in May -- you had tried a bunch of other times before so who would have thought she would say yes that time! Although if she ends up going with you that would make for a great time for the two of you!

Love your lists! Has Jen seen the photos of the new Celebration Fudge at MK that MickeyNikki posted on her TR? I had to add that to my MK list!

My dad and mom say that most of our old Disney photos are on slides -- do you know how we are supposed to convert them to different media? I have been after them for years to find them.

I love that picture of her and I have always loved her outfit. It's so cute. The workmanship is amazing. I can't get over how beautiful it is.

You are right, but I feel like I should have asked. I emailed her again today about planning a mother/daughter trip for us. We have never done anything like that so I think it would be something fun for us to do.

I saw it, but I don't know if Jen has or not.

My dad and mom say that most of our old Disney photos are on slides -- do you know how we are supposed to convert them to different media? I have been after them for years to find them.
I think a camera/photo store can convert them to print or they can convert them to negatives. I'm not quite sure. It's really frustrating because my Dad went with slide film for a really long time. It was great growing up because every so often he would set up the projector and we'd have a slide show of pictures but now it's not fun when you want to make copies for yourself.

My dad as well! Can you still smell the slide projector when you think about it? :lmao:

Of course! I also remember making shadow puppets before he put the slide trays in or how my brother would sit in front of the projector and slowly rise up so his head would block the photos. He would always do this when my Dad was mid-speech about some photo. :lmao:

I love the Teddy Bear LL!! I think it was a brilliant idea of you aunt to have them made!! You just can't walk around in a mink coat anymore... those dang Peta folks don't care that the darn thing is a half a century old:scared1:

It will be a lovely heirloom to pass down to your daughter (or granddaughter) someday!!

Love the lists...I'm suprised that TTA didn't make the fave attraction list though:confused3

LL:

I love your ADR's, but I like your mink bear even more. What a fabulously awesome idea for the coat. I have an old mutton lamb coat that my mom bought when she was in her early 20's. I can't wear it cause its a tad too small, a tad too heavy, and a tad too politically incorrect. I've been wondering what to do with the coat! Very cool idea!

I'll never forget the one time I wore it to work (years ago) on a frigid winter day when one of my coworkers said, "How many baby animals had to die for that coat?" Beeoooooccchhh!

Hi LL!!

The teddy bear is beautiful!! Thanks for sharing your story of your grandmother with us!!:lovestruc What a wonderful thing your Aunt did to make a keepsake like that for you and your cousin, that was so sweet!

Don't feel bad about not inviting your Mom, i'm sure she understands!! I hope it works out and she can go or at least plan something with you for next year. I'm excited about my trip in September with my Mom...once in a lifetime, you know?

How many more days until the move? And woohoo for 68 more days until Disney..it's flying by, isn't it??

What a great story about your grandmother, the coat, and the teddy bear. How could you not have cried...I'm a little teary thinking about it!

CP got it perfect BTW...she does look like a picture of a Barbie. What a hot ticket I bet she was!

Don't feel bad about your mom. Take another trip with her. My mom and I took one vacation just us (to Ireland for 10 days) and it was the BEST trip. We planned to go to Italy in 2003 when someone became unexpectedly pregnant and delivered right when we were supposed to be going on the trip. :rolleyes1 The best part is that we had opened a savings acct at her credit union for spending money for the trip. 6 years later, the money is still in there. It's like my promise to her that I will eventually take her to Italy!

What a great and thoughtful idea those bears were! My Grandma also had a fur coat. Maybe I could do that for my girls.
I am sorry that you feel bad about your mom-try not to. You guys asked them lots before. Hopefully she will be able to come with you at some point.
I like the MK lists-so fun!
Congrats on page 100 of ur pre trippie!

The bear is so cute and such a great way for the 3 of you to share your grandmothers prized coat! Now the bears will become heirlooms for your children and grandchildren! Oh, and Zella is a great name for the bear!

I hope your mom tags along with you to Disney someday! A mom & daughter trip sounds like a must-do!

LL I absolutely love the Teddy Bear. Zella is a beautiful name, I dont think you will come up with a better name. That is an amazing gift, I must say you are very lucky to have such a thoughtful Aunt.

What amazing and unique bears!

RE your MK lists, these are great! I love the personalized touches! ;)

The lists you guys are doing are so neat. I can't believe how alike the Dhs one was. It sounds like you are going to have a blast.

The teddy your aunt made is beautiful!! How sweet. I really like the name Zella.

I hope you and your mom get to go to Disney that would be fun. My mom is coming with us in May and I can't wait. When I talk about Disney or the Dis she says I'm a little to into Disney. However when I saw her last she was showing me the Mickey earrings she had bought and the Mickey sneakers she was getting. :rotfl: To funny!

Have a great Monday

I was seriously worried that people would jump down my throat about the fur coat. Hehehe.

I do love it, I am so sad that it will be closed while I am there! :sad1:

Oh, that's awful that she said that! My Aunt found the lady who made the bears online. Apparently she has been doing it for awhile. I think it's such a great idea!

We are at 18 days for the move! I'm so panicked about that! Doesn't seem like enough time to finish everything. :scared1:
We are talking about a trip in the next year, so we will see what happens. I think a mother/daughter trip would be a lot of fun.

What a great story about your grandmother, the coat, and the teddy bear. How could you not have cried...I'm a little teary thinking about it!
I can't believe I didn't cry. Even my Mom, Dad and Marc all commented on how I didn't cry. I tried really hard not too. That side of the family is not very emotional and I always feel like a freak when I cry in front of them. :rotfl2:

CP got it perfect BTW...she does look like a picture of a Barbie. What a hot ticket I bet she was!
She really was, we have some great pictures of her. She was beautiful!

Thank you so much. I love it too. I am so glad that you all enjoyed reading about it. :goodvibes

Hehehe, that is too funny about your mom. I talked to my mom this morning and she was scheming ways to get my dad to agree to her going on the trip and leaving him at home. :rolleyes1

What a beautiful story about your grandmother! The teddy bears are such a wonderful idea. The perfect way to share an item that meant so much to your grandmother.

I wouldn't feel too bad for not thinking to invite your mother. You had no way of knowing she'd be up for a trip now. Maybe start to plan one for the future. Just remember I'm the evil daughter who's not including her mother on her solo trip for December. I'd take my mom in a heartbeat, and I think she'd like to come, but there is no way I could invite her and not my father. I adore my father, but he doesn't do relaxing vacations and I'm determined to have a peaceful trip this time.

I agree about ABC Commisary although the breakfast they serve is fine.

Backlot is great for counter service -- it's one of our traditions!

SOUNDSTAGE something or other, Wings! We loved that place! In fact I found a picture of it the other day that I am planning to post in my DHS update. Do you remember the Catwalk that went around the second floor?

I've never done the ABC for breakfast.

That's right Soundstage. The whole place was set up like you were on a filming soundstage. There was the Catwalk bar up on the second floor. I used to love all the movie references around MGM. I miss the old MGM!

Well that was what my Mom said to me, that I was inviting both of them and she'd rather do Disney without my Dad. :rotfl:

I thought it was really nice of my Aunt to include my cousin and I.
