Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious September Warriors!

Way to go everyone! I feel like I've been gone a long time. I struggled most of the summer with "minor leg problem" I think they were caused by my Cardio blast class more than my regular running- anyway the injuries caused me to loose alot of fitness as I took off for them to heal. I did do abs classes and some cardio-kickboxing with a little swimming thrown in but still feel overweight and out of shape (especially since vacation). I've been back to semi-regular running again since mid August and did a 5 miler yesterday. My knee (inside of leg) is bothering me alittle today- guess I have to get back to the leg strengthing as well as the running.

Good weather and good miles everyone!

Hi Warriors

Just 2 weeks and we will be finished the W & D and starting to get ready for marathon weekend.

I did 6 miles today and DH John did 11.96. With a slow pace for warm up and then a cool down mile walk I was still in the 16:16 pace. I forgot to turn off the watch and that is why it is all togther.

Hope everyone else is doing well and hope to see all at the Friday meet.:grouphug:

Kathy

Nice to hear all the good news!!!

I did 7 miles yesterday! :cool1: It's my longest ever. I had a horrible week with NO running at all which makes it even better. Granted I walked most of the 7 miles (walking at 4.0). I still did 7 miles in 1hr 45 min (a little less than that actually but my treadmill reset at the 1 hour mark) which is within the time limit for the half. I'm starting to believe I can finish a 1/2 marathon. I wanted to run the whole thing but I'm starting to see that I'll be happy to just finish, even if I walk a lot of it. I'm probably going to have to do long runs on the treadmill because of my kids but my daughter watched Camp Rock while I ran and we were both happy!

Happy Sunday Warriors!!

I have finally made it home form the DL 1/2 trip. My DW & I went to Las Vegas for a few days after the race & I have (intentionally) avoided as much "E-stuff" as possible. And, believe it or not, the world was still here when we got home.

Our trip got off to a bad start with a 3 hour delay leaving out of Orlando due to aircraft problems, so we got to the GC about 7:30 pacific instead of 5. other than that, no real problems.

I ran the 1/2 in 2:08:07. Not a PR (WTG Stan!!!!), but considering how crummy my training had gone all summer, I was quite pleased. And surprised.

I ran for the 1st time since yesterday morning. My DW & I walked our butts off in Vegas, so that was enough training there. 3 miles in the muggy Florida heat. 10 days out west really spoiled me!

W & D in 20 days. No time to get lazy, but I REALLY hope there is a break in the weather.

Pam - So sorry about your knee adn leg problems! Hope things are under control soon! Was so ho tthis summer. if I didn't have tri's, I don't know if I would hav egotten any work outs in.

Kathy - You have made great progress! can't wait to hear how you did at WIne & Dine!

Amanda - Great jon on teh 7-miler! SOrry that you will have so many TM runs, but glad you can at least get them in that way!

Jim - Glad you had fun at DL and after!!!! I think the world did stop while you weren't online. You just didn't notice. ;)

My tri Saturday showed me why tri season is over. Brrrrr! Had fun, though. PR pace on teh bike (amazing with the wind we had) adn best pace of teh season on the run (and, no, it wasn't my shortest run of the season, close though). So, good way to end the season.

Carrie what a way to end your season- that is fantastic! Massive congratulations! Who was it that said their pace was getting slower just a few weeks ago?!?!?! I think not ;)

Jim congrats on getting home safe and sound- and for getting there ok too! Great race time, especially given everything! How's your back doing?

Amanda that's a fab compromise- I'd happily go to a gym with you if i got to sit on the floor and watch films :) 7 miles in any way is a cracking distance though, well done.

Kathy you did so well keeping to that pace, i can't believe it's wine and dine so soon... it's going to be amazing!

pam sorry you've had a rough time with injuries, take care and give it time then you can be back how you want to be. Not nice though i know.

Been trying to keep running through shin problems- went to physio yesterday and he was unhappy that the tenderness is on my bone. I'm officially under 'watch'. Boo. Anyway, I'm going to stop spinning for a bit because it hurt on wednesday, running club tonight was ok as slow pace. So so proud though as one of the runners made it 4 whole miles without stopping to walk once! It was her first time and on a week I was leading too :yay: awesome. So will decide on sunday whether to race in 10k, might just run with my sister as she's a little slower and it might not hurt so much. Hmm. House day tomorrow!

Hi all

Kate - Sorry to hear about your shin. I had shin problem early on but nothing as bad as yours sounds. Continue to take it easy for a while. Slowing my pace helped them out.

Carrie - The weather here has been alot cooler in the morning as well. Good for running. I can't imagine swimming. I've actually had to start a couple of my runs in a long shirt or long pants. Great Job on the PR bike ride.

Jim - WTG on the DL half. I'm seriously looking at the race for next year. It will be my first "destination" race.

Amanda - 7 mile is definately on track for being able to finish in January. I don't know if I could do that far on a TM.

Kathy - Keep up the good work.

AFM - I'm still plugging along. I've been doing some playing with my walk/run interval. Monday was 2:45 walk/1:15 run with a 400m constant run in the middle. Wednesday was 2:30W/1:15R. It was also a "speed" day. I averaged a 14:12 pace for 5 miles including warmup and cool down. My fastest 4 miles was at a 13:45 pace. I don't think I could maintain that pace for 13.1 mi though. Today, I deceded to do 8Mi. Not sure which ratio to use I did 2:30W/1:15R on the first 4mi and 2:45/1:15R on the second 4 miles.

My 1/2 Marathon is exactly a month from today. So, I think I have 2 more weeks to tweek my Walk/Run Ratio. I keep going back and forth on what to try next. To I increase the run or decrease the walk. After today, I think I can decrease the walk a little bit more. I'm going to try 1:15/2:15 on Monday.

Found out something very important

Do not eat dinner just before you go out to walk. We just finished and I went out. Could not get below the 16 pace and felt sick:sick: the whole way. At least it happened now and not during a race weekend.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Kathy

I had my first PT session in 3 weeks on Monday and was SUPER sore the whole week. Then, I went out to run on Friday for PT and managed to run for about 3 miles before I cramped up a bit in my abs. Yeah, I'm *SO* not ready for the W&DHM in 2 weeks. But I'll finish - I'm confident of that!!

Hope everyone is doing well - or at least better than me, which wouldn't be tough at this point!

Good Morning Warriors.

By this time in 2 weeks the W & D will be over and I am sure most of us still might be sleeping after the party.

Kate - hope those shins are doing better
Jeremy - keep playing with the ratios. I do not have that problem since I only walk.
Amy - hope your abs are doing better.

Today we did an 8.31 mile walk. The pace was 17.14 average. We took it easy because this is the farthest I have walked, plus we finally worked on some "hills". Our hills are the bridges over the intercoastal. It was a nice walk to the Gulf of Mexico and back. At 5 am it was still dark so we had to be careful with the sidewalks being uneven also. We normally walk the side streets and it is very flat and no issues in the road. Overall we were not going to go even as fast as we did.

This Friday I take off and finally see my 2 grandsons :cool1:in El Paso Texas where my son and daughter-in -law are stationed. I will be picking them up at school and then we stay at Embassy hotel. The boys love to swim in the pool and have the breakfast there. We will also be going to the science museum. I will be flying home Monday after I take them to school. Not musch walking being done but I will try and get on the treadmill there.

Hope to see many of you at the W&D

Kathy

Hi Warriors..

Happy Sunday Warriors!!!

I have been somewhat absent lately (as have we all :lmao::lmao:), but still chugging along (sorta').

It has gotten HOT here again after about 2-3 days of mild weather right after my DL trip return. I was hoping to get out and do a sorta' LR yesterday, but tucked it in after 4.1 due to the weather. I did 5 earlier in the week too.

Friday was a work day, so my cardio consisted of some stair climbing at the fire academy drill tower with an air pack on (which adds about 25 lbs to the fun). I managed 35 floors with some pull ups (ok, ok, just 2 or 3, but with the pack ON) every 5 floors. The quads and calves were pretty sketchy afterwards, but I am going to try to build up 5 floors per day out there. If I disappear for a long time from here, now you know why...........................:laughing::laughing:

Took it real easy today with a 2 mile walk w/my DW this evening. SHe's trying to convince a friend of hers to do the Halloween 5k @ the W&D ("Honey, it's 98% full. You have to make up your mind. Today!!!") I am thinking that if we do not register tonight, it will be closed by tomorrow.

Anywhooooo................... starting to get the "Goofy frame of mind" in gear while also doing a bit of a taper for the W&D. Hopefully, weather permitting I will get in a good LR sometime in the next week and work it out from there.

Keep up the great efforts everyone!!!

So so proud though as one of the runners made it 4 whole miles without stopping to walk once! It was her first time and on a week I was leading too :yay: awesome.
That is soo great!!! I hoppe that person was flying high after!!! Sorry about your shin issues. Hope you get it resolved soon! Any mention of orthodics? Did wonders for dh.

Very wise thought. Alsways good not to learn that in the race. Can't wait to hear how W&D goes for you!

Just remeber that this one race is not worth long term injury and be careful.

And that is what WISH is all about!!!!

Jim - Hope teh weather gets better for you soon! let me know when you want ot fly up and share our eweather. ;) You'll want ot do tha tbefore the snow flies, though.

Tracy - Thanks for doing teh visors, even when youa re short on time!!!!!

Hope everyone is doing well.

Just finished an easy 3 miler. I will be leaving tomorrow morning for Fort Bliss in El Paso Texas to see my grandsons:cool1:. I guess I will have to use the treadmill in the hotel to try and keep my legs loose and then I will jump in the pool with the boys. When I get back John and I will do a couple of walks before we leave for Disney on Friday.

Hope to see some warriors at the meet and greet on Friday:grouphug:

Hi all

Sound like everyone is doing well.

Good luck Jim and Kathy on your W&D relay. I walked my first half marathon in May and I think I'm more nervous about this one because needing to decide the walk/run ratio as well as walk/run speeds.

Amy - Hopefully PT is going better for you. Take it slow and easy at the W&D.

Everything going fairly well here. I got 5 miles in Monday and Wednesday and 10 miles in today. I was hoping to get 11 in today but the weather heated up too quickly. By the time I finished about 10:30, the temp. was 82 and I hadn't adjusted my pace enough. I finished the 10 miles at a 15:30 pace. My goal pace is about 14:50. I was actually doing real well until about 8.5 miles in when I did a run cycle too fast. My heart rate shot up and wouldn't come back down like I would have liked. If it's supposed to be warm race day, I will need to adjust my walk/run ratio accordingly. Tomorrows supposed to be much cooler but I have work. But, I'm teaching a 1 day computer seminar.

This was my peak week of training for the half. Next weekend is a cut back week to 8 miles before starting the taper to the Oct 17 Half Marathon. Next weekend I'm going to my sisters and Brothers on the other side of the state for the weekend. We're going to Kings Island amusement park on Saturday and the Ohio Renaissance Festival Sunday. So, I get a fair amount of walking on top of my normal workouts.

To all my Wonderful Warriors...

I have asked Carrie to take over the Team Coordinator position from this time forward.
I don't think its fair for me to continue to when I am not on WISH as much as I would like. I just find it difficult with everything else to try and keep up with everyone either here or not posting as much.
I will still be around, I am going to go back to the main monthly WISH team thread and try to keep up with that.
I will continue to do the hat orders for now and PLEASE GO TO THE POST AND ORDER if you want a WISH hat or visor for your workouts or races!!

Take care all and keep up the good work and the training - see you out on the course!!

Tracy

Hey Kids!!!

Another fun filled day at work here. My DW & I spent a couple of days at the condo down in Celebration Fri & Sat. I (successfully !!!) planned to get up early yesterday & go for a nice LR.

But, as I had long suspected, getting up out of bed & immediately running is not really my cup of tea. I DID do a bit over 3 though, so I'll give myself a C+ for effort.

Since the W&D is coming up, I am planning to enter taper mode until then. Depending on the weather, I may do a nice bike ride tomorrow. I have not done much cross trainig lately and think I am getting a bit booooooooooored.

Bad thing though - I felt a strange "twinge" with some pain in my left kneecap after lift a hefty patient today. Depending on how it feels tomorrow will probably determine whether I actually do a bike ride.

Ya'll are all doing great!! Keep it up!!!

Good morning Warriors,

Only a few days away til Wine & Dine!!!! We are going down to the world on Thursday morning. Staying until Monday afternoon. We are trying the free dining plan for the 1st time. Already got all the ressie's made, so we'll see how it goes.

All set to run the 1/2 mary relay with my wife. We are treating it as fun run, not doing it for time. Just going to relax and have fun!!!

I started my Goofy training 2 weeks ago. So far, it's going very well. Hope to see ya this weekend.:cool1:

Hi all Warriors. Hope everybody is having a good Monday.

DW, Kathy, is heading back from El Paso right now and she had a badddd night last night. Must have been food poisoning. She called this AM and had to hang up real quick. To top it off, her plane was delayed and now the flight status has her making Tampa at 7:20PM instead of 6:00pm. NOT GOOD. She was so hyped for Saturday and did well on the treadmill at the hotel.

AFM, I had a hard 61 mile bicycle ride Saturday, showed the younger guys this 60yo can still hit 30+mph. Just not for very long.:rotfl: Couldn't get to sleep Saturday night so at 11:35PM I put on my walking clothes and hit the pavement 1 week to the minute I should be starting my part of the W&D. Needless to say the legs were tired so I only walked a 10K but finished in 1:12:20. Looking good for W&D and on track for a Dopey Weekend in January.

Off to the airport now, so you-all stay well. See you at the meeting on Fri. and race on Sat.:thumbsup2.
