SupercalafragalisticexpialaDELICIOUS:9 days of Disney Dining with pics-Completed!

OMG! How can I decide between the pork tenderloin and the filet! And I ALSO hear great things about the buffalo strip steak!

Are you sure that's not coffee ice cream with the chocolate cake? Both of your desserts sound so good! Decisions...Decisions...

We loved Raglan Road too. Next time I would like to go there without kids too and go later when the music and dancers are playing. I also wanted to try a beer flight but with the kids I just wasn't in the mood last time. Are the fish and chips the same at Cookes of Dublin?

Not sure if they're the same as at Cooke's - we've never tried those - but suffice to say they are great. And, having been both with and without kids, I can highly recommend Raglan Road without ;)

I am sorry for the really long delay. I know this is almost silly to finish this now. Oh well!

About this time in our stay at Disney World, we started to look at our receipts to see how many table service and counter service credits we had left. No surprise, our table service credits were right on track. Our counter service credits however were starting to pile up and let's not even mention all the snack credits we had! No more icky cereal and toast in the room for us! Off to the Riverside Mill Foodcourt it was for a Mickey style breakfast.

We were loving the ambiance in here. It was unlike any cafeteria style foodcourt we had ever been to. We were also pleasantly surprised by the number of options we had. The food looked great! The only downside was the long lines. There is nothing worse than standing in a long line several times over (since of course Gary and I wanted different things and he had taken the girls to find a table) with a tray just to get your food and then yet another long line to pay for it. I am known to be a tad grumpy when I am hungry but I managed to be very polite and even crack a smile at the cashier. Somehow they always manage to and they had to have been up since like 4!

Gary wanted a breakfast platter. You know the usual greasy morning fair like waffles, bacon, biscuits, fried potatoes and the requisite scrambles eggs.

img_2462-O.jpg

I saw the line for the omelets and I was sold. It was delicious, especially after a long week of pop tarts and an apple for breakfast!

img_2463-O.jpg

The kids got a cute Mickey shaped kid platter with pancakes, bacon and sausage and applesauce.

The whole thing was a great start to our day and soon we were off to the parks for one last day of fun!

At the end of the day after finally having had the chance to ride Expedition Everest (what a rush!) we headed over to Boma for a long anticipated ADR. I am not usually a fan of buffets unless it is breakfast, but I had heard so many great reviews of this place that I was really looking forward to it.

We arrived right on time for our 5:00 adr and it was about 5 minutes before they showed us to a table. The decor in here was fabulous! In fact the whole resort looked unbelievable! One day we will stay here. The wood was just stunning! We waited again for the chef to come out and go over the buffet with Liz to accommodate Maya's allergies and there was plenty for her to sample.

We started with the soup. I got the girls some sort of Ginger carrot soup. I can't remember the name of it but I found it too sweet for my taste. At this point all of the kids were tired and not in the best of moods. Maya in particular was in complete melt down mode so that always sours a meal a bit. That is the way life goes with young kids.

img_2511-O.jpg

I tried the curried seafood soup and the curried chicken soup and both were wonderful. I am a big fan of seafood so I had a bit of a bias towards that one. I also love curry.

img_2512-O.jpg

I discovered here too that I love hummus. Who knew? There were three different flavours of hummus and I pretty much liked them all. The red one was my out and out favorite though. I can't remember what it was called. I tried the salads as well and I wasn't a huge fan of the watermelon rind salad. The rest was, well... salad.

img_2516-O.jpg

We then sampled the meats and the potatoes with Afritude and as most have said before these were darn good potatoes. The pork and the ribs were delicious and the rice with raisins in it was a new flavour and I really liked that as well.

img_2515-O.jpg

The desserts were great! I liked the zebra domes but I think because I had heard so much hyp about them, they were a bit of a disappointment. I am also not someone who enjoys liqueur in my desserts so I guess I had that coming. I did however, LOVE the little mango tarts. They had a refreshing tart taste (haha a pun! ) and I just couldn't get enough of them.
Here are some pictures of the dessert buffet. I actually ran into a fellow DISer while I was taking pictures. She had guessed why I was taking pictures of a buffet. If she is out there, Ola!

These were Liz's comments on Boma:

"The cinnamon rice with raisins was very good, a nice mix of flavors. The pork was really incredible, tender and flavorful. I was sad that they ran out so soon after we got there. The chips and hummus were great! For dessert I had the zebra domes, 5-6 of them! :worship: They were really yummy with the soft filling. I loved the mango tarts. They were light and creamy, but no doubt not light on calories. I really liked this restaurant, but it was a difficult meal to get thru, as you will remember (reference to Maya’s monstrous meltdown)."

Would I go back? Sure, but there are a lot of other restaurants I would like to try first. Maybe Jiko!

Tomorrow is our last day so I will wrap it up with a farewell breakfast at the Crystal Palace along with some random snacks that I will throw in.

Great reviews!

I loved your CA Grill review especially ... ah, their Kir is sooo good (it just needs to be in a taller glass!).

And I totally agree about the goat cheese polenta - in my opinion that's what really makes that pork tenderloin dish such a standout. We've actually made the polenta here at home and it's not too hard to make, just make sure your arms can handle 30 minutes of constant stirring. ;)

Jay and I usually trade off on the stirring so neither one of us is too exhausted to eat. :rotfl2:

On our last day we decided to go out in style and head to the Crystal Palace for breakfast. This meant, one last walk down main Street and a beautiful first morning view of Cinderella's castle. 10 days in and my 3 year old still said "Look! Look! It's Finderewa's Casoh!" With this huge smile on her face. I wish we had video taped that. The magic never got old for her. This also gave us a chance to see the beloved Pooh characters on our last day too for some good old Disney Magic.

On this day, the batteries started to die on my camera and I didn't bring the back ups so I saved all my pictures for the characters and not for the food so I apologize in advance.

The buffet here was very good, but it was the usual breakfast fare. I have to say I fell in love with the deep fried pancakes to be found at the children's section though. I am afraid, those weren't the best choices for those of us who can count points often just by looking at something. There will be time enough for counting' when the dealin's done as they say in... where is Kenny Rogers from anyways?

I was once again thankful to be able to say high to the fuzzy and loveable characters inside with the comfort of good old air conditioning not to mention lots of food to fill our bellies. I still have no idea why people stand in line for an hour in 92 degree heat to pose for a picture and spend all of 30 seconds to a minute with the characters. Lord knows in that heat even the character would rather be anywhere else! Figure out who you (or more likely your kids) really want to meet, then find the correct character meal and enjoy!

Piglet and Pooh, Tigger and Eeyore all came around and posed for pictures and gave lots of hugs. My 3 year old had brought her Pooh Bear blankie that she has been carting around since she was a couple of months old, to show Pooh Bear. It was a very touching moment for us. It was the first time the whole week that she would even so much as acknowledge the characters. "You were great from a distance, but please don't talk to me" was her consistent approach. This time though Pooh, seems very touched and gave her a special hug. We really enjoyed this meal.

Would I go back? Sure! I am going to try 1900 Park fare next time though since my 5 year old is enamored with Mary Poppins. I also hear they have cheese blintz's too and living in Montreal and having married into a Jewish family, I can truly appreciate a good cheese blintz!

Now for the odds and ends. I looked for a lot of snacks mentioned on the board but i never really found all of them. I did get to Goofy's Candy factory though. My kids LOVED this place. Heck even I thought I had died and gone to a dentist's dream money making machine! Both girls chose a rice crispie Mickey and then dipped it in chocolate. One coated hers with crushed M&M's and the other with sprinkles and then of course it was striped with white chocolate at the end. They munched on this every morning after breakfast for almost the whole week until it was gone.

img_2189-O.jpg

img_2190-O.jpg

We went back near the end and this time they dipped marshmallows on a straw into chocolate and these lasted a little less time. I was trying to hard to be a good mommy and not let them eat all of it in one sitting. I am also very adverse to cleaning up vomit so it was in my best interest as well. :scared:

At the end of the week when I had so many snack credits left we took the boat over to DTD from POR one last time and this time I bought huge peanut butter cups and giant pecan turtles and a bunch of other delectable treats for the trip home. I HIGHLY recommend finishing off any unused credits here.

Liz and I went to Epcot one night leaving the husbands back at the resort with the kids. We were planning to take in the World Showcase at our leisure and then we had VIP tickets to Illuminations for 9pm. We stumbled upon the bakery in Norway. I remembered reading about something called school bread and so I decided to check it out. Normally I am not a huge fan of any type of bread nor do I go nuts over pastry. But when we got inside and saw the display we were definitely wowed! The first thing I noticed was the SIZE of the school bread. Even my pictures don't do it justice. This could have been a meal! It was absolutely delicious with the custard inside and the flaky coconut on top. I ate about half of it and the rest was breakfast the next morning.

img_2395-O.jpg

Liz got a school bread for Roly to take home and then had what looked like a giant pastry pretzel with an apple filling and icing and almonds on top. This was also very delicious. I highly recommend stopping by the bakery if you get a chance.

Final Thoughts:

We loved almost every second of our trip, so much so that we have already booked a second trip back at the end of April for "one more trip" before my 5 year old starts kindergarten. Our next trip after that will be with Liz and Roly again in 2010 (keeping our fingers crossed!:beach: ). I strongly recommend reading up on these boards to see what you might like to try and then planning with ADR's all of your table service meals. There were so many places that were not even considering walk-ups and if they were it was at least an hour. It is bad enough to be hot and sweaty and to wait in lines for rides all day but with kids, waiting for food is just not a whole lot of fun.

Where will we return and where will we avoid? Well the only place so far that we are going back to is Raglan Road. Gary and I are going to make this a date night and hit Disney Quest together and then try out the Adventurer's Club afterwards. I truly can't wait! I wanted to go back to California Grill, but Gary although very much a fan of the place, wanted to try Narcoossee's so we will give that a try too. Also on the plans as of now are Le Cellier, Kona Cafe, Yak and Yeti (pending your reviews!), Whispering Canyon Cafe, and the Wolfgang Puck Cafe. It seems to be a Cafe filled agenda! Keep posted for that review (still trying to come up with a witty name for it) in May sometime!

In the meantime I hope you have enjoyed these reviews and if I can answer any of your questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to ask!:goodvibes

I am so glad you finished your reviews. We love Crystal Palace for breakfast too and I totally agree with you about the puffed french toast at CP - heaven on a plate but very, very naughty ;)

We, too, are returning in April, although I suspect your trip may be slightly later than ours (we leave on the 24th) and we are looking forward to trying some new places and returning to some old favourites.

I got the idea to order the Kir from you! I could have happily stuck with the Kir all night, but I have this urge to keep trying new things. Your choices in drinks inspire me and I have been taking notes for our next trip in April.

Polenta is actually a little difficult to find in my neck of the woods. Maybe it is because I still haven't looked up the french word for it but the grociers here kind of look at you funny and say, "de quoi tu parles toi?" loosely translated means "what the heck are you talking about?" I found instant stuff in the health food section finally, but I think it got a little too thick and resemble more scrambled eggs that the beautifully creamy and smooth concoction I had eaten at CG. :sad2: Oh well it is just an excuse to head back and try it again!

When are you returning to the World? We are used to seeing at least a date planned from you. Tell me you haven't gotten tired of Mickey and friends!

Well I'm glad I haven't inspired you to try anything you haven't liked - then I would feel bad. The next time you go back to CA Grill order a French Martini. :thumbsup2

Actually, what you need to make polenta is yellow cornmeal - do they sell that in Quebec? Let me know if you can find it and I'll share the official Goat Cheese Polenta recipe with you (my mom bought me the Disney cookbook last year so I've got the real deal).

As for us ... unless good fortune drops extra vacation dollars in our lap we will not be back to WDW until October 2009. But maybe that's not such a bad thing - sometimes it's good to give it a bit of a rest so that you can look forward to everything all over again.

We are going to Las Vegas late in April of this year ... I've been wondering if I can get away with posting those food reviews here on the DIS. :rotfl2:

Thanks for the tip on the French martini. I have to admit abashedly that I have never had a martini of any kind. Why not start with the French?

It is always nice to see other places too. My husband went to Vegas for a work convention once and he has been after me to go with him one day ever since. I would happily read your review of the restaurants there, even on DIS boards. Lord knows if you go to the family section here, people are discussing everything from potty training to divorce!

I have a request and if you have neither the time nor the inclination I am all good with that, but since you have sampled almost all there is to sample at Disney World, would you consider making a top 10 list of restaurants and maybe a nice drink from each one? I am trying to finalize our ADR's for May and I have something for each night but I am having doubts about a few of them. We have 2 little girls with us so that will keep us out of V&A, but otherwise we are good to go. As I said I totally understand if you are too busy.

Thanks!

Yes we will only be arriving on April 26th so will have just left. I am looking forward to trying new places and have made most of my ADR's, but I may still try to change some. I haven' read too much about the Yak and Yeti and I am not to thrilled with the idea of Liberty Tree Tavern, but I was looking for a fun character dinner for the kids. I may just look elsewhere. Let me know if you come across something wonderful!

For what it's worth, here's a list for you. Hope it helps!

California Grill - French Martini
Narcoosee's - Pomegranate Martini
Flying Fish - Red Snapper (Raspberry Vodka, Crown Royal, Amaretto, and Cranberry Juice)
Raglan Road - Celtic Sangria
Jiko - Keoke Coffee (kahlua, brandy, creme de cacao, and oh yeah, coffee) or South African Tawny Port
Spoodles: Sangria
Rose & Crown: Boddington's Ale; Guiness

Other random drinks that we find tasty: Lemon Citron Slushie and Grand Marnier Slushie (both available in France at Epcot); Fiesta Margarita available in Mexico at Epcot (a combination of lime, strawberry, mango & kiwi); Kir Roayle; Pomegranate Kir Royale; Rosa Regale (for sale in Italy at Epcot and probably in several WDW restautants as well).

Enjoy your trip! :goodvibes

Great reviews - thanks for sharing. :)

I can feel your pain when you said your little one didn't have much interest in the characters, on our DD's first trip (she was 15 m.o. at the time) she also had the "You were great from a distance, but please don't talk to me" attitude! :lmao: She was happy until she got real close to them, then she'd shake with fear. We had to avoid characters at all costs but if we saw any characters out while she was napping in her stroller, I'd get her pic taken with them then!

We are going back this April and I am really hoping that now that she knows what to expect it will go a lot better. Now if only I could get them to smile too! :goodvibes

Restaurantosaurus and Ragland Road:

< < < I loved the pub atmosphere of this restaurant. > > >

I agree; that's one of the things that keeps me going back to RR !

< < < I had the “It’s not Bleedin’ Chowder!” It wasn’t too heavy and had a lot of creamy flavour. The was one piece of fish in the bowl however that tasted like a smoked cooked salmon that I really didn’t enjoy the flavour of though, but that was the only part that went uneaten.> > >

One of my favorite dishes at Raglan Road. I also enjoyed their fish-n-chips.

We will be returning to DW:banana: in August 08 and staying at the POP resort the last time we were there was May of 06. This time we will be a grand gathering with 12 people.
3 Families consisting of 6 adults and 6 kids. My family and my sisters family have been to disney world 4 other times our cousin and her family have never been.

We will all be doing the regular dining plan this time we already have ADR for several TS meals. I wanted to ask how is the tip done, I am assuming since we are a bigger gathering we will be charged with a gratuity tip.

I just wanted to ask for some suggestions on CS meals and also the snacks can they be used at DTD at Goofys Candy Store.
We have not eaten at very many places at AK or Epcot so I am wanting some suggestions here. The following places we have ADRs for we have eaten at all the places except Crystal Palace.

50's Prime Time
Chef Mickeys (dinner)
Liberty Tree Tavern (dinner with Characters)
Crystal Palace (lunch)
Ohana's Breakfast

We are very excited about this trip and cant wait for August to arrive the only drawback is when we come home it will be a week until the kids go back to school so they are not excited about there summer ending :(

Any suggestions or helpful hints are greatly appreciated :yay: :yay: :yay:

When we went as a grand gathering you are not automatically charged as a group. You pay for your party only so they take one card per room. The bill will come with a full account of what you ardered and the suggested tip amounts at the bootom. You then fill in what you would like to tip and the waiter takes it away to run it through your card. You then sign the bill for the meal and then a seperate bill for the tip. It is a little complicated especially since the waiter will see what you are tipping before you are actually done being served but they are usually very helpful.

For restaurant suggestions, there are very few choices for a table service meal at Animal Kingdom. Tusker House was closed when we were there, but Yak and Yeti was hit or miss. I loved my meal, but the service was awful. I would try it again but DH has no interest. The Flame Tree BBQ was wonderful though for a quick service meal. Their half-rotisserie smoked chicken was amazing!

Epcot has so many great choices! Le Cellier was geat, as was Chefs de France. For atmosphere Biergarten was really neat and so was Coral Reef for the kids. It looks like you enjoy character meals. We have gone to a few different ones so far and the best by far was 1900 Park Fare. The food was amazing, it was a small room almost quaint and the characters are great! You egt tigger and Pooh were there along with Alice and the Mad Hatter and best of all Mary Poppins. Both DH and I agree this was the best character meal by far.

Goofy's Candy Factory is fantastic! You can use your snack credits for anything under $4.00 so you can choose a candied apple, a mickey rice krispie treat, a pretzel or marshmallows on a straw and then dunk it in whatever type of chocolate you like or caramel and then roll it in whatever confection you choose and then drizzle it some more! It is a child's idea of heaven although not so great if you have allergies. They also have a couple of wonderful glass cases filled with chocolate yummy things and cookies and fudges all included as snacks. I saved up most of our snack credits and then stocked up there. I love that place!

Best of luck and if you have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask!

If you are looking for Mickey waffles then the Riverside Mill food court was definitely sufficient. We have mainly eaten breakfast there and there was plenty to choose from. However if you have the chance, zip over to the Polynesian Food Court, Captain Cook's for an amazing breakfast! You can pick up Tonga toast for a quick service credit!

Oh and we found the best part about staying at POR was hitting the pool at Old Man Island whenever we arrived back from the parks in the evening. It did our whole family good. Have a great time and don't hesitate to ask if you have any other questions! :)
