Superbowl Question

I have never been to an NFL game, so certainly not a Superbowl, so wondered: how early can people get in the parking lot? With folks wanting to have tailgate parties, BUT the problems with security and all those 9/11 issues, how early may they enter the lots? Are folks in motorhomes able to park there overnight? Are motorhomes even permitted in the parking lots (they could hold a lot of explosives)? Just wondered, since there has been so much hype this year on the security.

superbowl.com says No RV parking.
Last year the parking lots opened at 9:30am, gates at 12:30.
Didn't read further, but I am quite certian you have to have a parking pass to get into the stadium lots.

Well at regular NFL games you need a parking pass to get into the lots. There are very few 'offical' drive up day of game and pay for parking lots. Everyone who plans on tailgating usually gets their parking pass when they buy tickets.

Around here there is no overnight RV parking but the lots tend to open early 7 or 8 am for a noon game.

I went to the NBA finals this year and since people don't really tailgate at basketball it was different but I can comment about security entering the arena. There were way more security measures for the final games than for regular games. It was very much like an airport screening w/out the xray machines. I had to take everything out of my purse including feminine supplies and show security what they were. Any sort of camera or electronic device (cel phone, pda) was powered on, batteries removed and replaced etc. It took ages to get inside.

My DH went to the 1st Superbowl after 9/11 so when I talk to him today I'll ask him how security was then.

The gates to Ford Field open today at either 2:00 or 2:30. There is no
public parking to my knowledge anywhere near Ford Field. Spectators are
being directed to other areas (Detroit Zoo, Wayne State U., etc.) and then
they are being shuttle bussed to the stadium. If one were to park and walk,
I'd imagine you'd be be numerous blocks away.

Thanks. Doubt if I will ever be lucky enough to actually attend a SB game, but wondered how parking/tailgate parties would work.
