Hi everyone,

I am new here but I was told over at The Mouse For Less that I could probably get some help here. This will be my first time at Soap Weekend and I was wanting some info on how the crowds are, what time I should be at the gates, etc. Any tips or info will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Gera

It is assumed that you are a Soap fan and want to see the Stars. If that is the case then you have to get to the Park before scheduled opening times because the MGM Park will be very crowded. The lines for photos and signatures get very long quickly so the sooner you get there the better but be prepared for very large crowds, last year it was near capacity. In additions some of the attractions will be reserved for the stars, Like Who Wants to be a Millionaire which cause the attractions that are not in use by the stars to be even more crowded. If you are not a Soap fan than plan on going to one of the other parks on Saturday and Sunday and avoid the MGM super soap crowd.

ggpartee-

If you are a sopa fan go over to the Community Board on Dis. There are threads for every soap on ABC. There are a few of us on the All My Children thread that will be going and are trying to arrange to meet up somewhere for a few minutes.

I don't have any tips as far as the weekend as it will be my first time going to SSW too.

I am a fan, although new, of AMC and that is the main reason we are going. The only time I plan on being at MGM is to get autographs and see stars. I will being going solo to those events while dh watches dd4 and dd1 at the hotel.

As soon as you get there, they will be giving out a Soap Guide with ALL the info on what Star is where.......STUDY IT!::yes:: I believe the signing sessions start around 9 or 10 am and the Stars USUALLY are transported to the Main Stage by Cars with Characters in them. After they talk on the Main Stage, they get BACK into the Cars, and ride back to the front of the park. They are than escorted to thier Autograph Post by a Cast member....where to see them as they are walking...PM me and I will tell you!;) ::yes::

Take a look at what's posted on Disney's website - all the times of who, when, what and where. This is my first time, but having the schedule has helped tremendously. Now I know right where to go when I get there.

DeterminedOne-

I couldn't find the times etc on the Disney site only the list of who was scheduled to appear. Where was 'all the times of who, when, what and where'?

I found that info on ABC.com. Go to the daytime page and then from AMC it will have a link for SSW.

This is the fourth year for my daughter and I at the weekend. Last year they started using fast passes. If you do not get a fast pass for autographs, you are out of luck!! You can't just show up at the signing location and hope to get an autograph. All you will be able to do is take a picture at a distance. There are going to be different locations for fast passes depending on which show you are interested in. Mirmatt

Are you able to take pics with the stars when you get the autograph? How much time do you get, is it like with the Disney characters?

You are able to take pictures when you get your autograph. A CM will take your picture with your camera. You don't get much time with the star. I think in previous year, they had 60 mins to get through 100 fans.

Thanks, this is going to be so cool! I can't believe I actually get to meet and take a picture with these guys. It is so nice of them to be willing to sit outside all day signing autographs. I'm sure they have better things to do but I sure do appreciate it.

The stars do not sit outside all day, most are there for an hour or so before they go on with other events like the parade or a show. You have to get a fast pass for the big stars or you will not be able to get their autograph. Make sure you know when and where your favorite star will be so you can plan to get into the lines for the ones you want. As soon as their hour sessions are over they are escorted out of the park.

Thanks for the tips. I have already checked out the schedule and location maps on abc.com. I know where the guys will be that I want to see and I will be at the gates waiting for it to open Sunday morning so I can get fast passes for them. I can't wait!!

ggpartee-- a few of us from the AMC thread are going to meet up before the parade Saturday morning. PM me if you want to join us.

I have a question too-- Do the FastPasses work like regular FPs? Can only have one at a time? If so, what is the best strategy for getting the autographs that you really want?

Thanks for the invite but Sunday is the best day for me to go. We are driving in Saturday morning (only 1 1/2 hrs) and I'm afraid we will be running late and I don't want to take the chance on not getting my fast passes.

About the fast passes....I read about them on the SSW site (link on abc.com). There is a "tip" page that explains everything. Basically it says that you can get as many as you want for different sessions. One per ticket holder, one autograph per person, and first come first serve. They also said there might be some standby spots but I don't think it is worth it to take the chance! If you want to read up on all the events, check schedules of stars, or read the tips you should check out the website.

Thanks-- I checked out the website and read about the fast passes but I guess I missed the part about getting as many as you need. I tried getting on the site this morning but am having trouble with it here at the office.

We will be around 50s PrimeTime cafe before the 11:00 parade if you get your fast passes in time. I will have a lime green ribbon on my little backpack so if you see us don't be afraid to say hi. It will just be me and DD10 this trip so I am looking forward to a 'girls' only weekend.

Hope to see you there and have fun!
