Super Soap Weekend 2008?

The park opens at 8:00AM for regular guests, not 9:00AM for SSW.

I'd suggest getting a Disney's Hollywood Studios map and looking at showtimes, autograph signings and motorcades prior to attending. It's always good to be aware of where to go and what to see and what times to do them all in.

If you have favorite stars you just have to see, I'd focus on planning your day around that. Otherwise it could get very hectic trying to see and do everything. You'll have two days so I'm sure a lot can get accomplished.

If you have a favorite soap, maybe try planning to attend all of the talk shows and motorcades for that particular soap.

Just some ideas thrown out there. SSW can be very hectic if you don't have a game plan (I know this for a fact, the past two years WERE hectic for me).

Team Stitch,do you think they will change thier minds about this being the last SSW? I sure hope so.

One thing I've learned about Frons thru the years is that I never trust half the crap that its spewed from him. Right now i've heard from a friend of mine that Sabastian Roche is leaving GH :(

I read that online 2 days ago.

I heard through the grape vine the reason why this is the last SSW is because SSW is part of the budget cuts.::mad:

It's because of Brian Frons. Let's be real here for a second. Disney is the one making the money. When guests come, where do they stay? Disney Resorts. Who gets that money - Disney. What entry fee do the guests have to pay? The park entry. Who gets that money - Disney. Granted ABC is owned by Disney, but the money from Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts does NOT trickle down to ABC. Brian Frons can say all he wants about doing it for the good fo the fans to get more exposure to the fans with this Soap Nation stuff, but the bottom line is the money. Some of you would be very surprised how much places have to shell out to get some of these stars to come. For example, when Bradford, Steve, Greg, etc do personal appearances, they get paid quite a bit of money to do these events by the places wanting to have them. On top of that, they charge extraordinary amounts of money to the guests to attend the events. Someone like Steve Burton isn't exactly hurting that is making an annual income in excess of 200,000 by doing these personal appearances alone. Then he's making about double that doing Monavie off his fans. Just food for thought...

I would think they make a lot more than they spend. Just thinking of every park pass they sell for those two days, plus the food and drink people buy, plus the merchandise they sell, plus the parking fee for those driving, plus the hotel stay for those on the grounds, etc. If they end it what will the crowds be like that weekend in November? Probably less than half the size. In addition many people, like myself, do not only go for two days but make a 6 day trip out of it. More money spent there.

I mean I don't know what this costs them, but it sure feels like I spend a lot. And I'm only one of the thousands that attend. :confused3

Disney is making a lot here. Not ABC. So if the President of ABC wants to pull out, it's not WDW's choice. So the one making the money from it doesn't have the final say. LOL. It's sad because SSW is one of the handful of times that DHS reaches maximum capacity consistently every year.

Hi All!
I am new to this thread but am I attending my first and last (sigh, tear) SSW. I was wondering if those who have been in previous years could give me some advice for the weekend. I would appreciate any tips or suggestions that you can offer.

Okay....#1, if you want a fastpass plan to get there early. Depending on who you're there to see, it can go quickly. We usually get there around 3am, after leaving the clubs. I also make a game plan, i know exactly what show I want to go to so that once one event is done, I go right to that next event. Hmmm, I dunno what other advice that you're looking for. I don't usually sleep from Friday when I wake up till Sunday night...it's no sleeping, no eating, partying and drinking and waiting in line from the early hours of the morning....

From SoapNet.com:

"Eileen Herlie, who played the irrepressible, vivacious, and just generally amazing Myrtle Fargate on "All My Children" since 1976, has passed away from complications from pneumonia. She was 90."

:sad1: I loved Myrtle, may she rest in peace.

LOL, I wrote the previous poster prior to reading yours. It's funny we say the same thing!

My friend and I were just talking about this. So sad....It makes me sad to see soap vets like this go. I remember when MacDonald Carey died...John Beradino....Anna Lee....Michael Zaslow...so many good ones...

This may have already been asked, but is it a good time to go to DHS if you just want to ride the rides? Does SSW make the rest of the park impassable? Just wondered.

Some people say yes. For me, I remember thinking, well, while me and my friends are waiting on line, I'm going to leave the line for a few minutes and run on the lines because they shouldn't be too long. Well, the wait was still 60 mnutes for Aerosmith so I wound up getting a fast pass for it that I couldn't go to because Kelly's fastpass was the same time. However, back in 2006, towards the end of the day when the Motorcade was going on, I went on Tower of Terror and there was no line at all. So it really depends...

WOW, I had no idea she was that old! She sure didn't act and look it, bless her heart.:guilty:

So sad to hear about Myrtle passing away. She definitely looked good for her age! I wonder if the show will do anything? She has been one of my favorites for such a long time.

I'm sure they will...AMC isn't GH...they don't spit on their actors as badly....:confused3

You are right, I suppose I was thinking since they're in the same family (Disney/ABC) that they would each benefit from it in some way. And this move is definitely not for the fans as Mr Frons says. He must know the amount of fans in attendance at SSW compared to the amount that will be touched by a bunch of smaller events around the country. It will not even compare.

I agree, I see them scrolling something at the end of the show or something. Maybe they will mention she passed away on the show.

Right and Frons has this blind faith in the fans that they are going to come to all these events and it will be as busy. He is sadly mistaken. For example, I go to SSW because of the environment and I enjoy seeing 3 main people. If it's broken into smaller events, trust and believe the same stars will not be there, and therefore, will not have the same impact. The environment will not be the same and if my top 3 actors are not in my area, then i will not go. Simply put. You have a better chance of me flying out to another state to see them.
