Super Goofs Turkey Trotting Thru November!!

Maura - Wow! 8 miles on a tread mill is serious mental training!!! I find its about the same as mile 22 of a marathon when I have start playing mental games to keep yourself running. way to go!

Shan - glad you are back. take it easy on that knee and be sure to rest between runs.

Rich - I wonder if they will change the rules about mp3s now that they have changed for outdoor marathons. I am thinking an indoor 10 miler milght be nice but a marathon! I can see me hitting the "Bite me" zone at mile 22 or 23 and running over and hitting my score keeper for losing track of my laps. Wow. Kudos to those brave enough to try it. (Note: if I ran fast enough to BQ then maybe it wouldn't be so bad....)

As for me. The rain and dh being out of the country kind of sidetracked me this week but I got a nice hilly 7 miler in today. Almost the entire run in zone 5 which is probably not so good....

Woohoo! DD's XC team just qualified for NCAA Division III National Championship! DD finished 8 in her regional. Looks like I'm going to Cleveland next Saturday!

Maura

That great Maura!
You must be so proud!

AFM- I am going to be able to do the Disney Weekend!
My sister is going with me- I think we got the last value room at the resorts. Of course Pop was all filled so we are staying at All-Sports! I am so excited!
I have not run much since MCM but I am staying busy with daily spin class and weights or yoga. I figure I can walk most of it with a 16 minute mile but I am super nervous. Of course I am also nursing an injured hip/quad thing (?). The whole machine is breaking down!

Joanne Glad things worked out so that you can go to Disney in January. Always good to have another Goof there.

I feel like a slacker over the last few days. Took Friday and Saturday off, and Monday too. Back to it today, at least. No excuse really. Shoulda been doing something on two of those days. Yesterday I painted my bedroom ceiling. I felt so sick afterwards from craning my neck up for so long, I didn't want to move after that!

Oh well, tomorrow is another day. Already nervous about my 16 miles this weekend. Never done that before, and it is worrisome.

Maura

Maura - Congrats for DD!!!

Joanne - YAY!

Big HELLO to everyone!!!

Training has been a bit odd lately - not quite to the schedule but feeling ok.
Did something different this past Sunday - Climbed the Sears Tower. 2,197 steps. Yes it really really is alot. ;)
My race report if interested http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=34374434#post34374434

Going to try to catch up all over the place. Check in Thursday!

Hi Goofs, still here but life has been crazy lately so not much time for the computer. Congrats to everyone who has raced lately. Liz, loved your story about the Sears climb, time doesn't matter when you just want to finish! Joanne, can't wait to meet you in person in January!

I did a 5K this past Sunday, talked 5 coworkers into doing it with me! It was cool by Florida standards for the start and there was a small breeze which helped when out in the full sun. I never felt like I wanted to crawl and had no cramping in my lower legs like I did at the Tower of Terror 13K so I was happy. Tried a walk .10 mile/jog .10 mile and came in under 40 mins which is a PR for me!!! Official time is just over 40 mins but they didn't have a starting timing mat, just the finish mat so everyone has the same "gun" time. Love my Garmin for this! Thinking about a 5K on December 5th as my final practice before the 1/2 in January.

Have a great week everyone!!

Maura - Congratulations for your DD. This must be a really proud moment!

Joanne - I'm glad you are able to go Marathon weekend. The more Goofs, the merrier!

Liz - You are amazing and a real inspiration. Thank you for sharing your report.

Suzanne - Great job on your PR! It's also wonderful that you are able to encourage so many friends and coworkers to do these races with you.

AFM, I just returned from the Big Sur Half Marathon. I'll post a report in the next couple of days complete with pictures. It was an awesome event and I had a blast.

Steve Sounds like a great race. I've also been to that area and can picture the roads you were running on. Glad your knee held up okay. Looking forward to the pictures.

Maura

Congrats Steve, Liz and Suzanne on your races! :thumbsup2
I hope I didn't miss anyone else? :confused3

And congrats to your DD Maura! :woohoo:

Only got in two runs this week. Monday and then today. DD was sick earlier this week and then I got a sinus infection. I struggled thru a 5 miler this morning and my head is killing me now. Luckily, I have an awesome doc and he called in some meds for me. Need to go pick them up! If I go ahead with the Gobble Jog 10K on Thursday it is gonna be painfully slow. :sad2:

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! :grouphug:

Hey Goofs,

I am majorly beat right now. Busy weekend. Saw DD run in Cleveland this weekend. She wasn't thrilled with her race, but came in 51st. Team came in 5th.

Bozo neighbors woke me up at 2:30 this morning. Doesn't anyone have any respect/sense/awareness of local noise bylaws. I would love to live someplace with no noisy neighbors. Couldn't get back to sleep and had a 16 mile run on tap for today. Not an auspicious start to the day.

Good news is....I did my 16.2 miles--farthest ever! Time was rather slow--I am giving up ideas of finishing in 4 hours. BUt I finished, felt okay and even managed a tiny sprint at the end.

Spent last 3 hours working at school garage sale. Now time to fix dinner and early to bed......zzzzzzzzzz

Maura

Maura- Congrats on your 16 miler! I bet the miles just passed by so quickly! Post run I hope you are feeling well!

Who needs to BQ? Back of the Pack is where it's at, baby!!

We're way more fun than those 4 hour marathoners! Come join us- we have snacks!

Good news is....I did my 16.2 miles

Maura, I had to giggle a bit. I've finished most of my long runs so that they end in .2 as well. (13.2 so it could be my LRE after the half marathon, 17.2 so it would be exactly 9 miles shy of the marathon, etc) Did you do that extra .2 on purpose?

Good for you for sprinting at the end. I've found that I'm the slowest in my training group for the first 2 to 4 miles and then I end up being the fastest for the rest of the run. Not that they others are necessarily dragging at the end of the run; it just takes me that long to find my stride and get my tight shins/calves warmed and loosened up. Then I really enjoy running the last half mile or so as fast as I can comfortably go. I hope I have that extra kick in me on race day so I can finish strong!

Kim The extra .2 just happened to work for the rail trail I was running on. I stopped at the point that was closest to 16. I suppose I could have stopped earlier, but I do remember thinking that if I stopped at 16.2, then I would only be 10 miles from a full marathon, and there was something psychologically boosting about that.

Joanne The miles didn't pass by quickly! I think I felt them all.

Today, while driving to the grocery store, it occurred to me that in the fatigue of finishing my run, I had miscalculated my pace. Instead of running in ~9:30/mile, it turns out I ran in just under 9 minutes! including my 3 fuel/water stops! Last few miles I was in the 8:30 range. So my "stars aligned" goal of 4 hours may be back on the table. I have mixed feelings about this, since I don't wante the added pressure. I think I'll go back to running without a watch!

Maura

Hey Goofs!

Finally got all my miles put into the spreadsheet. Caught up on my sig too. Barely 6 weeks to my next marathon, and my training has been lousy - illness and injury, basically. Nothing bad enough to let me break my streak, but I won't be running my best race on the 10th of Jan. No big deal - I can't BQ on it, so it will be a practice run for my other spring marathons. I'll just bluff my way through it or something.

Maura - way to go on the run. Which trail was it?

Hi Goofs!

Nothing much going on here. and WOW does that feel good. I am getting my training in pretty consistant but not the miles I had planned to be doing. I keep finding reasons not to push further. Most of the reasons are the hills I am running to prepare for the ING Georgia. Ugh.

Maura - Way to go on your 16+ miler!!! You are going to have an awesome marathon!

Congrats Steve, Liz and Suzanne! We seem to be having a streak of sucessful races. Or at least we find to positives in every race!

Shan - take care of yourself. Its hard to train when infection is slowing you down. LISTEN to your whole body when you run.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Cecilia

Hey Goofs...Long time, no post!

Let me apologize for being MIA for the last couple of months...I returned from my deployment in Sep, and have been trying to focus on family. In the meantime, I've continued my marathon training with TnT...up to 18 miles! I'm not going to even try to catch up on posts for the last couple of months, but I will be making an effort to keep up with the current posts. Hope everyone has been well!

Welcome back Shannon! :goodvibes

Congrats Maura on your long run!

Cecilia, I'm thinking about doing the ING half, I think DH will run the full. These days I seem to plan everything last mintute... :confused3

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving! :grouphug:

I ended up running the Gobble Jog 5K instead of the 10K. DH and I ran with our two girls. We came in at 41:33. My oldest could have ran it much faster, but my youngest kept pooping out. She wants to be a runner, but just doesn't want to run. :lmao: I think my older daughter might have some potential, maybe cause of all her swimming she does with swim team? She never even got winded.

Finally got some new shoes. I really needed them. Saucony Progrid Ride 2. I have been wearing the Rides. They seem a little different, I hope they work. I've only run in them once, it was raining when I went out today so I put on my old pair.

Hope everyone has a good week! DH is running a 40 mile trail race this weekend. I'm very nervous!!!

Shan Just bought a pair of shoes today...my second pair of Ride2's! I figure why change when they're working. I also had run in the Rides and I guess I don't find much of a change in shoes since they seem to be pretty much the same to me.

Shannon Welcome back! Hope your family is enjoying every minute having you around.

Rich I've been runningthe Paint Creek Trail in Rocehester. Will do my 18 there on Sunday--I thin that is the whole trail out and bacj, but I think there are ways to link with other trils.

As for me....went for a swim today since my legs were aching after my run yesetrday. It seemed to have the desired effect (that and a glass of wine!) becasue I feel okay now.

Now off to do more bedroom prep/paint.
